In August [DLAMP] (Soulmates AU)

How long has it been since I did one of the poly ships? And I feel like I'm leaving Remus out lol. Poor bab. I could just do DAMP and give Logan to him but nah.

But... I don't write angst.... Screw it we can hide the sadness!

A red string on your dominant hand ties you to your soulmate. However, if you are a twin, you and your twin can see eachother's strings.

W A I T -

STORYTIME!

In August the two of them entered kindergarten. Remus was jealous of his twin brother, who had many strings tied to his left hand while he had absolutely none on his right hand. He was the one who always got scolded so whatever. Remus didn't need a soulmate! He has himself and that's all he needs! Uh... right? It doesn't help that everyone he meets gets scared of him. He was lucky maybe one of his brother's soulmates actually liked his company.

In August started every school year, and in August it finally dawned on Remus hat he'd have to get a life. No more creepily watching in his brother's shadow, toying with his soulmates and trying to make fun out of the terrible hand of cards life dealt him. No soulmates, hardly charming, easily sweaty, kinky as everfuking hell, swears like a sailor, and impulsive to the point of being intrusive. However he does have a pretty sick mustache. Probably his best feature. Makes him look like his husbando: Waluigi.

In August he watched Roman happily, with all his soulmates, pick out a place to live and plan out the next five years of their life. Remus watched in the corner as the five sat down at the dinner table, Logan taking notes while Roman and Patton go on and on about their ideals while Virgil's insecurities and Deceit's (prefered name not legal name) snarkiness weighed them down and brought them back to Earth. Remus was behind jelaous that he couldn't have that, but he smiled anyways. Wow, Roman was so lucky. At least he can shine like the sun and be the prince while he was destined to be the duke of the shadows for all eternity.

In August Roman moved out of their house. They left Remus and Mom and Dad. It only took a year give or take a few days for preparations to be made and enough funds between the five of them to afford the house. They all were so happy, so in love, and had a perfect chemistry together. Remus never cried, but he sure as hell felt like it that night. But it's okay. Surely he can get to a point of happiness like his brother, right?

In August Mom and Dad kicked Remus out of the house. That August he went to Roman's door and asked for help. Roman brought him in and the entire household sheltered him in warmth and love. Their poly relationship was so healthy. Evehrine resoected the other's differences while showing a plentiful amount of affection specified for that person. Remus felt like a weird uncle in a family. Remus felt happy, and Logan found the perfect job for him.

In August Remus decided to send a message back home. Not to his parents, they never really cared for him like they cared for Roman anyways. He sent a message to his brother. It turns out Remus was the perfect person for Arson and Destorying stuff so he became one of those people that tears down houses for a job and burns things. It was the perfect job for Remus and he had never been happier. Plus he found this creepy haunted apartment that he can now call home, kind of like Gru's house! He even bought a goldfish named Minion! But this Minion was based off of the superiors Megamind movie, not the little yellow demons that took over Facebook.

In August Remus became an Uncle. Roman and his soulmates all agreed that they wanted to raise a family, not just a bunch of pets. Though Virgil wouldn't give up his precious dog for anything. Two weeks during that month went by before Remy old meet his darling little niece and his precious little nephew. Their names? Roman and the gang let them choose their own names, and they introduced themselves to Remus accordingly.

"Howdy doo little buckaroos! I'm your one and only Uncle Remus! Charmed to meet you! Hee Hee!"

Yes, he didn't include the Michael Jackson laugh. Then he did the thing where he stands on his toes and does the OWW thing. Roman snickered at his brother's goofy and PG behavior. Remus knew to reel it back in front of the kids, he grew up with Disney too! The little girl with blonde pigtails giggled while the littler boy just crossed his arms and pouted, his eyebrows furrowing making his forehead look even bigger. Where does the forehead end and the head begin on a bald kid anyway? Who knows.

"Wow, you look like an evil monopoly man! Hi Uncle Remus! I'm Fionna!"

She grinned and shook his hand. Then he went to shake the little boy's hand. He didn't budge. Remus pouted and grabbed his wrists, unfolding his arms and holding him above the ground. He shrieked, but he laughed as Remus spun him around like those skinny horsie things at a carnival. Patton and Virgil alike were about to yell at him for scaring him when Deceito pointed at the smile on the little boy's face. The little boy who Remus would soon learn was named Gavin.

"Oopsie Doodles! Looks like my nephew ain't having no fun! Time to change that! Cynthia! Help me! I'll hold him up here while you.... TICKLE HIS FEET!!!"

Let's just say the kids instantly loved the roughhouse play they got to have when Uncle Remus came over to visit, which he did every month! Except for August. He'd make sure he came over three times in August. Once for his monthly visit, and once each for the little Rugrats' birthdays. Yep, that's right. Both of them were born in August. What a magical month. Is it Summer? Is it Autumn? Depends on where you live. It had no rhyme or reason to what it do, Skiddky Boo. Oh, maybe there is a rhyme!

In August Remus finally settled in with the fact that he doesn't need a romantic relationship, a soulmate, sex, or anything like that to be happy. He found a job that he genuinely enjoys, has a life that he can be proud to live, and has people he loves with all his heart and is willing to live for. He has his brother, his siblings in law, and his two adorable munchkins to shower with love and affection while he can be his... Uh... authentic self at home with his goldfish Minion the Seventh (don't ask about one through six) and the Three rats he got named Wakko, Yakko, and Dot. Call her Dottie and ya die. He would have went with Pinkie and The Brain, but there's three.

In August Remus became an honest father. He was destorying a house when he saw an orphan child standing outside, watching it smashed from the inside. The walls needed to be torn down because the entire building except the foundation was being remodeled. Remus heard the sad excuse for a place used to be an Orphanage. With a smile, he offered the small orphan kid a home. They said only if their friend can be with them. An 'imaginary' friend. Remus didn't mind and treated this imaginary friend like a second child. Little Max, a NonBinary sweetheart, and their imaginary older sister Ruby who was said to follow them everywhere.

In August Remus discovered something ghastly. Apparently in their first year in middle school, the first public school Max ever attended, kids didn't like Ruby very well and Max got violent. They wanted to send Remus's baby to a mental hospital. Remus refused to allow it. So Remus instantly took Max out of private school and called Roman, wondering what to do? Do you want to know something spooky? Max his Psychosis. They have delusions that their older sister never died and have a horrible memory that they truly believe they ate or it's a time that happened several hours ago. Regardless, Remus loved Max.

In August that year, later on in the month, Remus asked Roman to come meet Max. So he did. Roman treated Max like NonBinarh royalty. Max liked Roman, so they met everyone else. They met Patton and Logan and Virgil and Deceit and Gavin and Fionna. Max liked their new family, and smiled. But after they left they asked why nobody saw Ruby. Remus shrugged. Max then asked of something was wrong with them. Remus said this:

"Well, yeah. But isn't there something wrong with all of us? Some of us are just crazier than others and we just got to live with thst kind of crazy. I mean, I have major ADHD problems and have literally no filter when I speak, but that doesn't mean I'm unlovable. You loved me and Uncle Roman loves me and everyone else in this family. I know Ruby loves you too."

Max didn't understand that August, but they did later. They never did stop seeing Ruby there, but that was probably a good thing. They talked to Uncle Logan about Ruby and he helped them a lot. Patton would make Ruby an extra cookie, but make it smaller. Virgil would ask Max about their day and ask Max to talk about Ruby's. Deceit would try to make Ruby a characterization and draw her. Roman would play pretend with Max so they could save Ruby from an evil dragon. Gavin would color with Max and Ruby. Fionna taught Ruby how to play the recorder, just like she did with Max. And Remus? Well, Remus loved Max. He still does.

In August Max was ready to get school again after two years of waiting. They had one year to get used to oh kid school before being thrown into the hellscape that is Highschool. The entire family watched them leave Remus's apartment that day, everyone wanting to see them off. It was that day in August when Max finally said the words that made Remus's entire life feel... complete.

"I love you, Dad."

Remus started swelling up. Remus never cried, but he sure as hell felt like doing it. He felt a hand on his shoulder. It was Roman, beaming at him. He did a wonderful job raising his kid this far, and now all he could do was support him. Remus felt the first tear ever in his life slip by before glancing at the two of their hands. All of Roman's strings were red, tied to his four fingers and happily connecting them to the other men here. Remus's hand was a bare as could be. No strings anywhere. But that's okay. He found his purpose in life:

Be an Uncle

Be a Dad

And Make Every Day as Happy and Important
