we walk into pyramid and Abby seems livid

"i just wanna look at what fourth place looks like." Abby says

"this weekend we'll be travelling to forheed New Jersey, we will be attending on stage America i don't wanna be fourth again"

"on the bottom Mackenzie, you will not be performing in the routine this weekend."

"next Maddie, at nationals you were amazing just as good as Chloe but Chloe won and ever since then" Abby shrugs

"next Kayla, i don't want a second place dancer."

i feel my heart skip a beat

i've never been on the bottom, ever.

there's a first for everything

"Paige, once again it's the same pattern Kelly it's like she doesn't have to work anymore like i won third was good enough for me."

"Nia, you're doing fine but is fine going to make you a star?"

"Kendall, you didn't pull my eyes in a negative way you actually pulled them in a positive way when i don't say your name and i stop yelling at you get worried"

"and Chloe, i thought you looked great it was good was it exactly what you supposed to do? no, go out there and do the routine that you were taught the way i invision it better yet Chloe do it better than i can imagine it that's a dancer"

"and on top of the pyramid is nobody nobody in a group that got fourth deserves that spot, Brooke i don't have you on the team"

"she's been here every week what is the purpose of her coming every week if you're not going to put her on the pyramid" Kelly says

"Brooke do you wanna be here?" Abby asks

Brooke nods

"see that to me is not aha a response that i'm looking for" Abby says

"this weekend we are doing a group routine called Pink Lemonade Brooke i plan for you to be in the group routine, Kendall you've a solo" Abby says

we clap for Kendall

"your solo is entitled owe you nothing remember that i owe you nothing you are very lucky embrace this opportunity and make the most of it" Abby says

"Nia you also have a solo"

we all clap

"you're solo is entitled a hundred years from now is it gonna take a hundred more years to straighten those legs and point those feet? are you gonna do it now?"

"i have two more solos, Chloe do you think you can do the dance that i teach you?" Abby asks

Chloe nods

"have you talked to your mom about stop the avacisy for all the other mothers, Chloe this is a contemporary routine as well there's lots of hits and accents it's stronger than you've been doing before and it is called left in the dark" Abby says

"my last solo goes too... Kayla, your solo is a lyrical piece entitled Wind"

i beam

"the group routine is entitled Pink Lemonade you're using hats and the hats are a prop drop your hat and your off the team." Abby says

we start to laugh

"that's a little harsh" Kelly says

"moms you're dismissed you're going to be

rhinestoning, ladies spread apart start the warmup gran pelé in second" Abby says

"the name of the song is Pink Lemonade but it's about life you get lemons you make lemonade okay let's try that with the music" Abby says

we learn the group and it's actually really pretty

we finish up the group dance we get dismissed

|Solo Rehearsals|
when i get called into the studio Abby and David is there and i haven't seen David in weeks

"okay Kayla this week David is going to help choreograph your solo." Abby says

i gasp

we learn my solo and it's to the song wind by paul roggenbuck and it's a piano song and it's gorgeous

David's choreography is beautiful

"on those last beats do a fouetté 6 of them and then roll to the ground reach out and make a circle with your hands and then fall to the floor" David says

we go from the top and i really love this choreography

"okay you're good, and Kayla remember you're the only Ziegler who i'm giving a solo to this week you're the only one i trust to win so don't let me down make this number perfect make it beautiful." Abby says

i nod and i leave the room

|Two Days To Competition|
|Group Rehearsals|

"come on girls let's go let's go let's go" Abby says

"okay Pink Lemonade better not be fourth or third or second" Abby says

we have hats today to practise with

Maddie helps me get all my hair up in the hat

and we do the number

"get that hat! get it get it!" Abby yells to Chloe

"nobody was good this is turning leaping jumping not one person can be off because when that hats off you're going to see it"
we get dismissed and i go to classes

|One Day To Competition|
mom has me come go to where the moms sit to try on my costume

"did you make this" i ask

"Christi helped" mom says

"good." i say

Christi laughs

"see i told you she likes my costuming more" Christi says

mom laughs

i try on my costume and i really like it

after i try on my costume i go to ballet class

|Group Rehearsals|
"slow down there, Brooke you're never straighten out your first leg in that jump at all make sure your hats on your head" Abby says

we do more off the group and my hat keeps falling off if it falls off onstage i will cry

"Kendall you're not turning in releve" Abby says

we do the circle bit

"DONT GET SO CLOSE TOO HER LOOK AT THE GAP BEHIND YOU!" Abby yells out

"sloppy feet Kendall your right ankle wasn't supposed to hit the ground!"

"you left foot is sickled on the jazz backbend"

"i guess this is it now i'm gonna dismiss you, Kendall i don't think you'll be doing your solo, you're mother was supposed to have that costume here today she knows everything fine i don't think you're doing a solo" Abby says

Jill comes into studio a

"let's go" Jill says

"it's not my fault but even more so it's not her fault" Jill says

"no but why didn't you just take what i was offering you? you're a grown adult woman" Abby says

"that's right." Jill says

"just go and get it." Abby says

"no i am a grown adult woman and we are done with this come on." Jill says and takes Kendall out of the room

i look to Maddie and make a face

"girls i'll be on the bus. i just find it humorous that the moms sat in the parking lot for two days because Brooke and uh Paige weren't here but now that Kendall's not here it's screw you honey every man for themselves, look at Brooke and Paige they didn't shed a tear." Abby says and leaves the room

we just stare at each other and the moms signal for us to leave so we get changed into comfier clothes and get our things
we get on the bus and i sit beside Chloe

we arrive at the hotel and im pretty nervous for tomorrow.

|Competition Day|
we arrive at the competition and we head into the dressing room and we get set up

mom helps me get ready for my solo

Kaylas costume and hair with the headpiece at the side:

"i knew something was up when we hadn't seen Cathy in weeks and now i know what her game is she has an all boys team that's her MO cause you guys all know that a judge they go for the boys all the time because they wanna keep them dancing, you girls dime a dozen" Abby says

Abby goes through my solo and i'm the only one who didn't get a correction which is slightly nerve wracking
we head backstage to perform our solos

"guys whatever we get be happy" Kendall says in our little circle which contains me Nia Kendall and Chloe

"okay" Nia says

"and don't be mad at anyone" Kendall adds

"you'll all be amazing i love you all" I say and we all hold hands

"up next to the stage please welcome 115 this is Chloe dancing to left in the dark"

Chloe enters and her solo is really creepy but she's nailing it she finishes her solo and exits the stage

"up next in our junior miss competition please welcome number 117 this is Kayla dancing to Wind" i enter the stage and my music starts and i do my routine it's a lot of technique since there's no words and i think i'm nailing it i get up to my last section and i do my 6 fouettés and i roll to the ground and wave my hand in a circle and out my hand in my shoulder the crowd cheers and i exit the stage

"next in our junior miss competition please welcome to the stage number 121 this is Nia dancing to one hundred years from now" the announcer says

Nia performs her solo and it's really pretty i think she's doing a really nice job

she finishes her solo and exits the stage

"up next in our junior miss onstage america competition please welcome number 127 Kendall dancing to owe you nothing"
Kendall enters the stage and she is doing such a good job she nails the whole solo she finishes and exits the stage

"my third runner up goes to number 142 flying solo Keanna" the announcer says

"my second runner up goes to number 127 owe you nothing Kendall"

we clap for Kendall as she gets her award

"the first runner up for junior miss onstage america goes to number 149 im gonna love you Talia"

"and our winner for Junior Miss Onstage America goes too drum roll please"

we do a drum roll

"number 117 Wind Kayla!"

i beam and i get up to get crowned and to get my banner

"congratulations"

we head back to the dressing room my mom hugs me

"congratulations Kayla" mom says

Abby enters the dressing room

and she looks mad?

"well well well i didn't pick four soloists to come here to put you in the competition for only three of you to not do well. the thing that takes the work the sweat when is the last time you went into a class and actually were dripping with sweat when is the last time your feet were so blistering on the bottom they were cracked open and bleeding? when is the last time that happen that's a dancer!" Abby says

we start getting ready for the group because my victory lasted about 20 seconds

group costume:

we head backstage and Maddie makes sure my hair is all in my hat

"is it good?" i ask as the Candy apples boys go onstage

"yeah you're good" Maddie says

"thank you" i say

the candy apple boys are very good we have alot to work for they finish the group and exit the stage

"up next to the stage please welcome 215 Pink Lemonade"
Maddie enters the stage first and we all enter holding the hat into our heads and i'm willing for it to not fall off
we then take the hats off and our hair falls down and i do a turn sequence we finish the number and i think we did amazing we exit the stage and Chloe looks mortified

"what's wrong?" i ask

"my hat fell off" Chloe says

"what? when?" i ask

"when we did the floor section" Chloe says

"oh gosh Chloe" i say

we head back to the dressing room

"good job" Kelly says as we walk in

i walk over to our mom with Maddie and i sit down

Abby enters "nice job Chloe huh nice job"

"let's go we're leaving you want Chloe gone we're gone you get your way you can have whoever" Christi says

"walks out bobbles all over the place with the turns" Abby says

"no she didn't" Christi says

"then drops her hat, yes she did!" Abby says

"no she didn't, you know what you go ahead and replace me, i'm leaving i'm not gonna make a scene with you" Christi says

"oh that's the easy way out right?" Abby says

"no i'm done, i'm done this is not what i signed up for humiliation for my daughter" Christi says

"i didn't humiliate her! she humiliated herself when she fell out of the turn!" Abby yells

"Abby shut up, shut up stop talking now, replace us that's fine, come on Chlo we're done" Christi says and her and Chloe leave

i look to Maddie in shock

"i thought besides someone dropping their hat, it was not bad." Abby says

"my second runner up number 214 all the gymnastics" the announcer says

"separating my second runner up and my winner is one tenth of a point."

"number 232a own it from candy apples"

"you're winner goes too number 215 Pink Lemonade"

we all jump up screaming

"where do we dance ladies?"

"ABBY LEE DANCE COMPANY" we all scream

i really wish Chloe was here to celebrate with us
