Troubled past

Edit: fixed some phrasing

Tw: past abuse, unhealthy relationships, self hatred

Lately I've been crying like a tall child

There's a sinking feeling in his gut the more he thinks, he didn't fit, he never did. Not with his siblings, who try as they might, never quite managed to match his energy levels, not with any "friends" who would never be able to see him the way he saw them, and not with his partners, who were so much better than he could even hope to be.

So please, hurry, leave me, I can't breathe

His breath catches in his throat, eyes widening, they deserved the world and he couldn't give that to them. They needed to leave him before he dragged them down with him. He sighs shakily, wishing for tears that wouldn't come so he could rid this awful feeling. He just wanted to be enough for them.

He shuts his eyes, pulling his knees to his chest, he'd end up being too much anyway, he was sure of it.

Please don't say you love me

He wonders how much they mean it when they say they love him, before finally deciding they probably don't, he isn't sure he wanted them to anyway. Love hadn't been the best for him in the past, often used as a way to get something from him or justify some kind of abuse.

Mune ga hachikire-sōde

That's probably what it was, maybe it was DC's way of getting control, or the others way at getting back at him for some screw up he can't remember. It made sense, he started most of their conversations and was usually the one still in a good mood after.

He was the problem, he always was. He overwhelmed them and struggled with boundaries, they should get it over with and leave before he makes it any worse.

One word from you and I would

He doesn't react at the sound of the door opening behind him, or the footsteps that would've previously put him on edge, still lost in thought.

Jump off of this ledge I'm on, baby

It's Texas, watching him with concern and hesitantly stepping closer.

"Darling?" Texas sits down next to him with a grunt, "why are you up?"

Tell me "don't," so I can crawl back in

He sighs softly when Florida doesn't react, wrapping an arm around Florida and pulling him into his lap. He doesn't miss how Florida's expression changes before he turns, hiding his head in the crook of Texas' neck.

There's a heavy feeling in his chest as he runs soothing circles on his partner's back, "do you know what you need?"

Florida shrugs, "I'm fine." He mumbles, muffled slightly.

Texas gently tilts Florida's head up to make eye contact, "if you were fine you'd be asleep, talk to me, dollface."

Florida flushes, glancing away, "I don't need to talk, I just couldn't sleep."

Texas pulls him closer, running a hand through his hair, and the dam breaks. He sobs suddenly, shaking his head when Texas starts apologizing, he was the one that messed up, not Texas.

"I just want to know I'm doing okay," he chokes out through sobs, "I just want to be a good partner for you guys."

"You are," Texas leans back, cupping Florida's face, "you are doing good and you are a good partner." Florida's shaking with sobs, repeatedly thanking Texas who shushes him softly, "We love you, so much," Texas plants a kiss on his forehead and Florida gives him a watery smile in return, "you're adorable." Texas wipes Florida's tears with his thumbs and returns the smile.

"I love you too." Florida says softly and Texas beams.
