Tofu Sandwiches

It was a little after 12:30pm when Raven woke up. Beast Boy was still out of it on her chest. "Wow, he really needed this." She whispered to herself as she ran her fingers through his green hair. He didn't even flinch as she massaged his head. She heard a soft knock on the door as Raven zapped the door open to see Cyborg standing there. She raised her finger to her mouth and Cyborg nodded in response. Cyborg glanced down at the shirtless Beast Boy who's shoulders were barely visible under Ravens cloak and his blankets.

"Is BB okay?" Cyborg whispered quietly with his eyes on Beast Boy's head.

"Not yet, but I'm handling it." Raven whispered back. Her purple eyebrows furrowed at a thought, "Did you happen to run a blood test on him yesterday?" Raven's eyes met Cyborg's who  looked confused at the question.

"No, but we can...Why?" Cyborg asked perplexed by the question.

"He might've been poisoned about a month ago, but let's let him rest right now. He really needs this." Raven said with a soft authority that garnered a silent nod in response.

Cyborg turned to leave but stopped at the door. "By the way, Bird-Man gave you two the day off of everything." Cyborg whispered with a smug smiled and a cocked eyebrow from his human eye.  Raven rolled her eyes as he left the room. She went back to lightly scratching Beast Boy's head as he slept. Her thoughts mulling over what Cyborg said, replaying his exit in her mind. She knew what he was hinting. Cyborg was always the first one to stir the pot between Beast Boy and Raven. The truth was, or at least to Raven, is that they were just close friends. They both had fairly recent heartbreaks (Raven and Malchior) and they both seemed to have the same life damages. Shaking the thoughts out of her head, she realized she wasn't going to go back to sleep any time soon. She remembered that she had placed a book she was reading, next to her bed. She knew she couldn't get up because Beast Boy was still asleep. She didn't want to call one of her friends to go get it, because, again, Beast Boy. Whispering her mantra with a grin, she began the fun experiment of whether she could levitate her book to her from down the hall.

Cyborg walked out to the kitchen and began making sandwiches for everyone. Robin was seated on the sofa, reading the newspaper while Starfire floated around to the kitchen to help Cyborg.

"How are our Friends?" Starfire whispered as she dropped to the floor next to Cyborg. She grabbed a butter knife and spread the mayonnaise for Cyborg as she grabbed the cheese slices. Robin heard the question and got up from the sofa, leaving the paper on the table.

"I think Raven has a good handle on it..." Cyborg began but then made eye contact with Robin, "She did want us to run a blood test on him. She if he was poisoned or something." Cyborg said stopping placing the last slice of cheese on all of the bread. Robin and Cyborg exchanged glances before Robin turned to leave.

Robin quietly opened the door of Beast Boys room to see Beast Boy asleep on Raven who had an open book floating above his head. Raven gently dropped the book onto the side of the bed as she turned her attention to Robin. Robin sat on the edge of the bunk bed, facing Raven.

"So he was poisoned?" Robin whispered curiously with his masked eyes furrowing in concern.

Raven nodded as she pulled the blanket back a little to show Beast Boy's scar that spanned from his shoulder to his collarbone.

"How long ago did that happen?" Robin asked in surprise. He studied the pastel green lumps of scar tissue that traced his collarbone.

"He hid it from everyone. I just healed what was still injured last night." Raven responded with a hint of irritation.

"Well, let's see if we can get this blood test going." Robin said as he pulled a syringe and vial from his pocket. Raven nodded and Robin gently took Beast Boy's arm and tied off his elbow with a rubber cord. He swiftly poked the needle into a vein in the pit of his elbow as Beast Boy let out a soft moan. Just as the vile filled and Robin placed a band-aid on Beast Boy's arm, he stirred awake and opened his eyes to see Robin. He glanced down at the vile of his blood in Robin's hand with confusion. "Sorry, I tried to do it quick." Robin said sheepishly. Beast Boy sat up slowly, next to Raven and Raven handed him his t-shirt. Beast Boy took the shirt with wide eyes realizing Robin saw his scar.

"I bet you have a lot of questions." Beast Boy said sheepishly as he looked down and away from Robin.

"Yeah, but they can be answered later. Take your time, Beast Boy. I'm going to go run those blood tests Raven asked for." Robin stated as he got up to leave. He heard a quiet "Thanks" come from Beast Boy as he left but didn't turn around or stop. The truth was Robin was quite irritated with Beast Boy keeping his injury a secret. He thought about all of the fights and missions they had in the past month that could've been jeopardized by this new revelation. He shook the irritation from his head and walked off to the medical wing, knowing his emotions weren't going to be any use right now.

Back in Beast Boy's room, Beast Boy got up to shower while Raven stayed to read. When he got back, Raven noticed his eyes looked a little brighter than weeks past. The dark circles were gone and he wasn't carrying his shoulders as tensely as he had been. He sat down next to Raven, fighting his thumbs.

"It's okay. We'll figure it out." Raven said as she stood up with Beast Boy following behind her.

The two walked out to the kitchen to see Starfire and Cyborg working on assembling a plate of sandwiches. There were already two tofu sandwiches for Beast Boy and a turkey sanwich for Raven set out on a plate.

"Friends! We were going to bring the food to you?" Starfire exclaimed happily as Raven grabbed her sandwich with a slight grin. Beast Boy grabbed his sandwich and sat down at the table to eat. He watched Raven walk around to start a pot of water for tea while Cyborg noticed this interaction. Everyone eventually settle to sit at the table (except Robin who was working in the Med Wing) and ate quietly. It was a little weird with no one talking but Beast Boy appreciated that they weren't asking the questions he wasn't ready to answer. Eventually Cyborg clicked on a movie and everyone sat and watched.
