Distractions

After a brief nap in Starfire's room, Robin got up to go patrol with Starfire. Robin left on his R-cycle and Starfire flew overhead. They scaled the entire city but found nothing out of the ordinary. Starfire flew down to Robin, who was parked by the pizza place. Upon contact with the ground, she noticed Robin zoning out towards the alley that the attack with Terra happened.

"Perhaps it is time to go." Starfire whispered as she placed her hand on his back.

"Yeah...maybe Cyborg has an update on the poison." Robin muttered as he put his helmet back on. Starfire knew Robin was tired. She could hear the fatigued haze in his voice. She flew up to the sky to search as they ventured back to the tower. Robin was weaving through traffic below on his R-cycle as something reflected in her eye from a sky scraper off in the distance. She took her eyes off of Robin and studied the building but saw nothing. In a daze, she'd stopped moving, wondering where the light had come from. Starfire looked around and suddenly noticed she had completely lost Robin. She zoomed off towards the tower but was distracted by a large, fiery, explosion a few blocks ahead. She speed up with her communicator in hand.

"Robin, come in!" She called, hoping he hadn't gotten to the tower already so he could help. She approached the scene with a few burning cars around a large, smokey, crater.

"Robin, come back, there is trouble!" She called in again. She descended onto the scene as panicked people were running away. A hysterical woman jumped out of her burning car as she grabbed Starfire by the arm.

"The boy! The Boy!" The elderly woman screamed with tears running down her face as she pointed towards the middle of the large crater. Starfire slowly approached the crater as she stepped on a small shard of red metal. Confused, she picked up the hot shard and studied it for a split second. She hit the button on her communicator to signal an emergency. 'Maybe Robin had already gotten back to the tower' her mind hoped with her heart pounding as she approached the crater slowly. There was a lot of smoke that disguised the inside of the crater.

"Star, Robin, come in! What's the emergency?" Cyborg asked on the communicator as her heart sank. The heat, radiated from the inside of the crater. Whatever was burning, was burning excessively hot.

"There has been an explosion and I cannot find Robin. Is he at the tower?" Starfire called back but saw another piece of red metal with a bit of torn fabric clung to it. She picked up the black and yellow fabric and recognized the piece of Robin's cape immediately. She flew straight into the heat and frantically moved the smoldering rubble. She heard a pained groan as she lifted a large chunk of cement off of what looked like the front half of Robin's R-Cycle. She saw a limp Robin, with burns, bruises, and ash trapped under the remnants of the R-Cycle. Tears streamed down her face as the heat seared her hands when she lifted the bike. She carefully gather Robin in her arms before she zipped off into the sky. She felt him whimper as a small, pained groan escaped his lips. She called over the communicator as she zoomed through the air.

"Emergency!...Robin is..." She tried to speak through sobs. "Come to the roof!" She finished into the communicator. His body went limp as her feet hit the concrete floor of the rooftop and Cyborg busted through the door with Raven.

"No...No!" Cyborg said to himself as he grabbed Robin and ran to the medical wing. Starfire sank to the ground in exhaustion, finally noticing the burns on her hands. Raven helped her up and propped her heavy body on her shoulder to walk her down to the medical wing as well.

Once downstairs, Raven did her best to heal Starfire's hands in the small amounts of time she could keep her still. Starfire kept pacing the floor with tears in her eyes. Bumble Bee came in with a blanket for Starfire, and did her best to get her to sit down.
