Sweet Dreams

A green figure, frantically running from you...Running for his life...He trips and falls onto a cold concrete floor in front of you....The room is dark but the last thing you see before you lunge forward to attack is his scared, emerald, eyes...Your fangs make contact with green shoulder as you hear your claws tear through the flesh.

Raven tossed and turned with her dreams plaguing her rest. She woke up panting with her heart pounding and beads of sweat forming across her grey forehead. She brushed her purple locks from her forehead and sat up. She mentally recalled her dreams  with disgust. She felt the pit of nausea hit her stomach as if she had actually eaten Beast Boy. She felt guilty even though everything was just a dream. She got out of bed and donned her cloak, covering her face. She went out to the kitchen to make some tea and noticed that it was just shy of 3 in the morning. Holding the warm mug of peppermint tea in her hands for comfort, she leaned against the cabinet and closed her eyes. Her thoughts floated off to the unfamiliar smell of peppermint, since it wasn't her usual choice but peppermint was good for nausea. Just as she had started to relax, she heard a groan off in another room. It was soft and muffled through the walls but her ears picked up the pained sound. She slowly walked through the halls on high alert. She was next to Beast Boy's when she heard a whimpered, "No! Please... Don't go...". She fazed through his door, quietly and watched her green friend lie in a tensed fetal position with his face scrunched in worry. He was breathing quickly as she sat down on the bed next to his face. She placed her hand on his damp cheek as he startled awake. His pupils were dilated in fear as he caught his breath and looked around the room. His eyes finally met Raven's perplexed eyes with shame. His pointy ears lowered as he kept his eyes low, evading her questioning look.

"Are you okay?" Raven whispered. Her monotone voice had a slight edge but this time, it wasn't an attitude. It was unrecognizable to Beast Boy but Raven knew her worry was creeping in. He sighed as he sat up, wiping the sweat from his face with the sleeve of his t-shirt.

"I supposed you'll know I'm lying if I say yes, won't you?" Beast Boy sounded withdrawn as he looked off into the corner of his dark room. Raven nodded quietly.

"How long has this been going on?" Her voice whispered with a slight quiver. Beast Boy scooted over to sit next to Raven.

"Since I found Terra at the school...er, that's when it started..." Beast Boy started with a quivering voice.  "I watched her for a few months... then she figured it out and attacked me. She's not the same person anymore, Raven. She's so...cold." He said with a shiver. He pulled off his shirt and saw a 4 inch scar along the right side of his collar bone. Raven traced the pastel green, lumpy scar as he closed his eyes with a grimace. Her fingers moved to the thicker part of the scar which made him inhale a sharp breath of pain. "It still hurts a little." His husky voice mumbled, "I think it cut into my pec...because it hurts if my arm goes back..." His voice trailed off as she examined the scar closely. Her hands started to glow in the low light as Raven mumbled her favorite mantra.

"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" She scolded quietly as she finished up with healing him. Her famous attitude creeping back to her voice with frustration.

"Well, there's more..." He admitted sheepishly. He reached back with new mobility in his pain free arm and scratched the back of his head. "I'm not sure but I think there was something on the knife, like a poison or something. I just...Feel... Almost like I'm losing my mind..." His voice edged up to a higher pitch towards the end of his statement that rattled Raven. He started shaking as Raven pulled him into her chest and held on to his head tightly. His skinny frame shook in her arms. "I can't sleep anymore, Rae. I can't describe what I see..." He whispered exhaustedly into her stomach. They both went quiet while Beast Boy continued to shake.

"Azarath Metrion Zinthos" Raven whispered as she leaned back into his bed. Her hands had a black glow as she massaged his temples while he curled up onto her chest. She pulled his blankets up and over them with her powers and tucked them both in. She felt his body get heavy as she worked to keep his mind quiet. She mentally connected to his mind and felt how desperately he needed this rest. His body finally released the tension of his torturing dreams and he slept.

Starfire woke up with her face buried into Robin's chest. She glanced up and took a quick glance of Robin's unmasked eyes as he slept. His mouth was hanging open as soft breaths paced in and out of his lips. His dark eyebrows were relaxed and she noticed, for the first time, a small splattering of pale freckles across the bridge of his nose. Starfire wrapped her arms around Robin's t-shirt as he rustled a little in his sleep. She felt his grip around her back tighten but he stayed asleep. A slight snore left his throat before he turned his mouth into her red hair. He closed his mouth and inhaled through his nose in the crown of her head. His breath turned rhythmic as he continued to sleep.
