The New Normal

Cyborg was tinkering with the T car in the garage. He was lying under the car on a rolling seat, focused in on some small part. A small beep came from Cyborg's arm. He tapped his arm and a screen popped out.

"Hey Bee! How's it hanging?" Cyborg spoke happily into his arm.

"Oh, just calling to tell you Happy Birthday babe." Bee giggled into the phone on the other end.

"Heh, thanks Bee! I kind of forgot it was today..." Cyborg admitted to Bee through the screen sheepishly.

"It's been rough, hasn't it..." She started with a pause, "I'm coming to visit you!"

"Girl, are you asking or telling?" Cyborg sassed back without thinking.

"See you tonight, sparky" she said with her usual ornery grin before hanging up her phone.

Later that evening, Cyborg made the rounds around the tower. He checked on Beast Boy, who was still unconscious. He stopped by Raven's door but she wanted to be alone in her room. Cyborg stopped by Robin's room but he was busy going over leads. Cyborg walked passed Starfire's room but she was taking a nap with Silkie. With a sigh, Cyborg walked into the entryway and sat in a black armchair. Cyborg waited for what felt like an eternity, silently brooding over the fact that everyone forgot his birthday. "Well, almost everyone." He thought to himself, since Beast Boy was still unconscious. He didn't blame anyone with everything that was happening but that didn't make the night feel any better. He mentally toyed with taking Bee out for a night out but he didn't want to be away from the tower incase anything happened. He looked down at his arm which glowed 11:34pm. "Did she forget? Did she run into trouble? What's taking so long?" His thoughts went wild with worry. He could feel the fatigue setting in and his batteries needed recharging. Suddenly, the door opened with Bumble Bee holding a large paper grocery bag in her arms. Cyborg stood up with a smile and tried to peek inside.

"Ah-Ah! No peeking Sparky!" Bee scolded as she flew passed him to the kitchen. He followed behind her with a grin.

At the kitchen, Bee had blindfolded Cyborg while she prepared everything she brought over. Cyborg strained his ears to pick up on the sounds she was making but she was remarkably quiet tonight. The smells were confusing as well. All mixed together, there was hints of sweet, savory, and salty in the air. He sat at the table waiting patiently until Bee sat across from him. He heard the strike of a match which made him smile but and unfamiliar sound of popping and snapping. Bee watched the perplexing furrow of his human eyebrow from above the blindfold as he heard her surprise.

"Okay, you can look!" Bee said with a grin as he pulled off the blindfold. It all made sense immediately. There, in front of him, was a feast. Closest to him was a to-go box that had a half-rack of BBQ ribs, mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob. Then his eyes moved to the blue and white birthday cake that had lit rainbow sparklers on top, that popped and crackled before his eyes. He realized the sparklers were because she called him "Sparky" immediately which made his smile grow. Before he could stop himself, he shouted "Booyah!" as Bee giggled from across the table. Bee flew around and gave Cyborg a kiss on the cheek before they began to eat.

After the feast was finished and Cyborg put away the left overs, the two meandered down the hall. They walked past the medical wing so Cyborg could check Beast Boy's vitals. Bumble Bee put a small green-wrapped gift box on the nightstand next to Beast Boy's bed. It was a 'get well soon' present from Titan's East that she had brought with her.

Once finished, they both walked down the hall. Robin's door was left open so Cyborg and Bee both glanced inside noticing that Robin and Starfire fell asleep on the floor, going over leads together. Bee let out a quiet giggle as they continued down the hallway.

"How long has that been going on?" she asked a little more smugly than she intended it to sound.

"Since Tokyo." Cyborg said with an ornery grin as they both chuckled. Bee was the first person Cyborg called about the infamous kiss. Truthfully, she couldn't believe Robin and Starfire had beaten them to a kiss with as bashful as they were about their feelings but Cyborg had taken initiative shortly after to ask her out.

"What about Raven and Beast Boy?" Bumble whispered after they walked passed her closed door.

"Nahhh. I don't know man." Cyborg started. "I think there's something there for Raven but BB still hasn't gotten over Terra. That's how this whole mess happened, was grass stain was following Terra around until it pissed her off..." Cyborg whispered back.

"Nooo! Really? Terra did all of that!?" Bumble Bee exclaimed in shock, way louder than she meant to.

"Shhhhhh!" Cyborg said with a mental finger over his lips. They walked down the hall quietly to his room as he let her in first. She walked into the room, which now had two beds, which confused Bumble Bee. There was his normal charging table, and a new bed, which sat in the opposite end of the room with grey covers and an electronic headboard that Cyborg could plug into.

"Babe, what's this about?" Bee walked in with a raised eyebrow and sat down on the new bed. It was a very soft microfiber cover with matching pillows and sheets.

"I wanted you to be comfortable..." Cyborg started as he sat down next to her, "...and I thought that maybe you'd want to sleep in here...with me?" he said nervously, looking down at the floor in front of them. "I mean, Bee, I know we can't do much, with me being half robot and all... but... I..." Cyborg sighed closing his eyes, knowing he was botching everything he planned on saying. He felt her small hand on the back of his neck and he continued to speak without opening his eyes. "I want to give you everything I can! I want you to feel like you have a normal life, with a normal boyfriend, and not have to go off to a guest room to do something normal like sleeping." The words poured out of him and it felt like a weight had been lifted off of his chest. He felt her get up so he opened his eyes. She was serious, staring directly into his eyes with  her nose less than an inch from his which terrified him. The two stared at each other for a moment, Bee calculating everything she had just heard and Cyborg, slowly dying inside from trepidation. Cyborg saw a flicker in her eyes before she grinned and pushed his chest down into the bed. She sat on top of his hips and began to make out with him showing her approval as relief flooded over Cyborg with each kiss. This was the beginning of their new normal.
