Happy Birthday Old Man

Bee arrived early and called Cyborg to let her in at 5:30am.

"Hey Sparky! Sorry if I woke you up early!" Bee started as she flew up to give him a quick kiss.

"Oh, you thought I could sleep? I was wayyy too excited!" He laughed as he tackled her into the sofa in the living room, leaving her suitcases on the floor. He held down her wrists and ankles, playfully wrestling her into the couch cushion. He bent down for a kiss and then helped her up and grabbed her suitcases for her. They walked quietly so they didn't disturb anyone sleeping from the hallway. They can to Cyborg's door and she noticed is now read "Bee & Sparky" which made her smile.

"Okay close your eyes!" He said before opening the door. He had woken up early to put some shelves on the wall so they could hang pictures and put memories up together. He smiled as he walked Bee into the room and sat her down on the bed. He quietly grabbed the suitcases and rolled them in, shutting the door behind him. "Okay, open!"

Bee looked around, the room was painted a soft grey and the blankets were different than the last time. The pillows were a soft yellow and the blankets were a navy blue and white lace patter that contrasted the pale yellow. There was a beautiful white and black Art Deco vanity with a black velvet stool for her to do her makeup in and on the other wall, there were empty black shelves hung, waiting for things to be placed there. He had also installed a door between this room and his shop so she didn't have to stay up if he needed to work on something late.

"Oh Cyborg! I love it!" She said breathlessly impressed with the effort he put in. She then looked down at the stuff laying next to her, she saw the shampoo, conditioners, black silk bathrobe, black fluffy slippers, toiletries and candy. She turned and wrapped her arms around his chest hugging him for a nice long time.

Raven woke up feeling super dehydrated. She looked around and saw the green kitten asleep on the bed next to her. Being careful not the wake Beastboy, she grabbed the Gatorade he left her and cracked it open. Her stomach was cramping from dehydration so she rushed the sweet blue liquid down her throat. She set the bottle back on the nightstand and decided to skip getting tea this morning. She rolled over and pulled Beastboy I'm closer to her chest and went back to sleep.

Robin woke up a little after 7am. It was peaceful to wake up next to Starfire with no alarm, no stress, and no glaring problem with villains hanging over his head. He leaned over and kissed Starfire's forehead to wake her up. She sat up and watched Robin call all the Titian's over the communicator to come to his hospital room by 8am. She watched the faces on the communicator wondering when she should bring up that she didn't have one.

"If you go to my room, open the nightstand drawer and you'll find your communicator. Aqualad found it..." Robin trailed off as he noticed Starfire let out a sigh of relief as she got up to go retrieve it and get ready.

8:00am

One by one, the Titans came in. Bee was the first there at 7:45 so she surprised everyone else as they came in. Beastboy and Raven walked in last at 8:01 and received a small scowl from Robin who was propped up in his inclines bed. Robin had turned on a conference call via web cam to Titans East on the TV so they could hear the announcement as well.

"Good Morning Titans! I know you're all pretty tired from yesterday so I'm going to keep this brief so you can rest today. After a lot of thought, I've decided to temporarily step down as leader of the Titans and leader of Titans West. I will be taking this time to recover both mentally and physically from the past couple of months so I can come back to being the leader I need to be for you all. I promise to leave you all in good hands, Bee and Cyborg will be taking over operations here in Jump City. Cyborg will handle Titans West and Bee will handle the global leadership. Aqualad will be temporarily taking over Titans East in Bee's absence. I will be debriefing Bee and Cyborg today. I will be undergoing surgery today and will keep you all updated when things change." Robin dismisses the groups from the video chat and from his room, leaving Bee and Cyborg to go over things.

Robin passed down a binder he had saved for emergencies to Bee and Cyborg. They opened the black binder and saw everything they could ever need from traffic cam access codes to running the training center. There was even a typical day's and week's  schedule in the back. After reviewing the binder, Cyborg prepared Robin for surgery. He had to get some rods and plates fused to his lumbar spine while the bones healed and he needed to get some injections into his hip joint to aid the healing process. Cyborg finished the surgery and paged Raven to partially heal around the screws, rods, and plates to start the healing process.

He woke up later that evening in a fair amount of pain, surrounded by his teammates in his bedroom. They had pulled in a small wall mounted TV and Beastboy had even left one of his gaming consoles. It was Bee's idea to get the team together to watch movies in Robin's room with him. Starfire laid next to him in bed and the others all grabbed some bean bags and snuggled up with their significant others on the  floor. Robin was so groggy and delirious from the pain medication and anesthesia that he really didn't know what movie he was watching but he loved that everyone was here together.

They continued to have movie nights in Robins room for the rest of the week. It was Cyborg's prerogative to really try to make the team more cohesive. He figured that working on team bonding in this down time would be a good first step as leader so they could avoid any more fights or quitting.

At the end of the full week of healing from Raven, Cyborg and Starfire started to challenge Robin to be mobile. It stated with the two helping him stand to try to regain any balance he lost. Standing was definitely hard for Robin and any progress made was from Starfire flying above him, holding him up by his shoulders. Robin was getting super antsy but hated having to ask people for help to go to get to the kitchen or living room.

While out and about with Raven, Starfire bought Robin a walker for his birthday without knowing any better. When Raven saw the purchase, she simply smirked as she knew it was a bad idea. Once they got home, Starfire asked Cyborg to help assemble the walker in his room so Robin wouldn't see it. Cyborg, of course, was internally laughing while putting it together. He knew it was actually a really good idea, and Robin in a walker was about to be the funniest thing he'd ever witness. He gently explained to Starfire that the gift was an amazing idea but Robin might not like it at first because walkers are typically used for elderly people. He said they should go about this like a funny present to warm Robin up to the idea so he wasn't offended and Starfire loved the idea. She had never been involved in any of the pranks Beastboy or Cyborg pulled and it would also help him like her present more. Cyborg called Bee, Raven, and Beastboy into his room so they could deliver the present together.

Robin was sitting in the living room sofa, reading the newspaper as the team walked in quietly hiding Starfire behind them. He was relaxed in a white tshirt and red plaid pajama pants with no mask. He had his back to them as reading the second page of the news. He heard the door open behind him but he was much more interested in the article about gas prices dropping and the economics behind them. 'God, I've become an old man!' He thought as he was thoroughly interesting in reading news not related to crime. As if almost on cue, Beastboy slide in front of him with a cheesy grin. Robin glanced up and then went back to reading. Then Cyborg slid in next to Beastboy with a bigger toothy smile and small birthday cake in hand. He glanced up again, knowing this was going to lead to something that involves not finishing this article he went back to reading, trying to ignore them. Then Bee and Raven came in to the picture, Bee smiling and Raven had a small black kazoo in her mouth. Seeing that Raven got pulled into the tomfoolery, Robin finally set the paper down.

"Oh nooo..." Robin mumbled under his breath.

"SOOOOO STARFIRE GOT YOU THIS AWESOME PRESENT!!" Cyborg started shouting as Starfire flew in with the walker with a giant pink bow on top. She had the biggest smile as she placed the walker on the table on top of his newspaper. Robin closed his eyes with a chuckle.

"So you're calling me an old man?" Robin laughed with delight.

"19 is basically elderly!" Bee sassed

"You read newspapers like an old man..." Raven stated.

"And wake up early like an old man!" Beastboy cut in.

"And you gotta get around somehow!" Cyborg chimed in.

Robin smiled at Starfire, knowing that this was actually a really thoughtful gift. "Happy Day of Birth!!" Starfire spoke as Raven blew into the kazoo behind her.

"Thanks guys! I love it." Robin said with a chuckle.

"Well, try it out!!" Cyborg urged as Starfire put the walker in front of him. With a grimace he relented and put his hands on the walker. He used it to push himself up which actually made getting up a lot easier. He walked a few assisted steps and started laughing out loud, surprising the Titans.

"This is actually really nice!" Robin spoke enthusiastically shelving his pride. Starfire flew around him for a kiss as he was taking in the new found freedom.
