Goodbye

Starfire had cried all of the tears she could cry. She had been holding in a lot of emotions from the past few months. Between Beastboy, Raven, and Robin, she had seen her share of injury and heartbreak. Starfire was always light hearted and upbeat. That was her natural personality, but lately, she was the anomaly. Everyone relied on her bringing them up but who was bringing her up as well? Starfire stepped onto the cold, dark, cement. The ground was damp from a recent rain as her boot made contact. She was cold, so much so that her breath was visible. She ducked into an old storefront and purchased a black backpack, some black sweats and grey beanie from the old woman at the register. She slipped across the street, into a gas station and changed into her sweats. She threw her old clothes into her backpack and braided her hair back to fit under her beanie. In the mirror, she looked unrecognizable.

Starfire left the gas station and flew out to the beach. It was dark but she could clearly see each wave under the moonlight. She sat in the sand, just short of the water. She wasn't sure what she was doing but at the moment, it felt right. She sighed as she grabbed her communicator and tossed it into the ocean.

The next morning, Raven went to check on Robin. He was asleep so she silently added his pain medication to the IV drip and walked out after checking off the dose in his charts. She heard Cyborg cooking down the hall so she went to investigate.

Once she entered, Cyborg was happily cooking way, flipping the waffles and frying the eggs. He had two plates laid out on a tray that he was taking back for Bee and himself. 'It was nice to see Cyborg so content.' thought Raven. She couldn't remember the last time he'd seen him this relaxed.

"Good morning Raven! Want some waffles?" Cyborg asked a little to enthusiastically.

"No thanks." Raven muttered as she got out a mug for tea.

Beastboy woke up in his room with confusion. He'd been doing so much sleeping that he couldn't remember if how he got here from Raven's room. He took off his T-shirt and looked in the mirror to observe his fading scar on his collar bone. It was healing nicely but still sore in a few spots. He was really impressed with how quickly he bounced back from the poison. Outside of being tired, it all was starting to feel like a dream. Tossing on his uniform, he went to go bug someone.

Robin woke up alone in the hospital room feeling guilty about his exchange with Starfire the night before. He hadn't seen her since and was beginning to hate being bedridden. He called in his communicator directly to Starfire with no response. He waited another five minutes before calling her again but no reply. He set the communicator down in frustration. He thought she was probably just ignoring him, even though that's not typical for her. He hasn't necessarily been typical either, which started to unsettle his mind. What if this ruins any chance of a relationship he had with her. He knew he hadn't been himself. He had Ben cold, brooding, and just down right angry lately. The stress of everything had been eating him alive. He closed his eyes trying to think of ways to make it up to her.

Beastboy walked into the kitchen to see Cyborg loading up his and Bee's plates to take back to their rooms. There was a small vase with a single red rose in the middle of the tray that caught Beastboy's attention.

"Ooooooooh Cyborg! When's the wedding!?" Beastboy quipped before Cyborg threw a slice of bacon at his face. "EWWWW CYBORG! You know I hate meat!" Beastboy whined as Cyborg left the kitchen with the tray and a chuckle.

Cyborg got back to his room and saw Bee sitting up in bed with a puzzled expression. She was holding her communicator, talking to Aqualad. Cyborg quietly set the food down in front of her as the call ended.

"What's going on?" Cyborg asked with his attention completely derailed from being romantic.

"One of Aqualad's dolphins found a titans communicator..." Bee trailed off with confusion but then came back to reality as she noticed the rose on the tray of food. "Aweeee Sparky! You didn't have to!" she said with a smile.

"It's nothing. I'm just glad you're here!" Cyborg added. "I've definitely been thinking about that move to Titans East again. I can't leave now, but maybe once things get back to normal..." Cyborg trailed off as he started eating.

"Oh?" Bee said, caught off guard by the subject change. "Why do you say that?" Bee asked.

"I'm just thinking about our future and where it could go. I want my future to have you in it!" Cyborg stated without realizing how forward it sounded.

"I'd love that." Bee stated back with a smile.

A little while later, Bee met Aqualad at the front entrance. He handed the communicator over to Bee. It was wet and a little scuffed up but still in working order. She took him inside Titian's tower and called a meeting in Robin's hospital room using just the Jump City Titans channel. In doing so, the mysterious communicator repeated the call, indicating it was one of theirs.

The group slowly gathered in the hospital room, minus Beastboy and Starfire.

"We are still missing two. Where are they?" asked Robin with Raven, Cyborg, and Aqualad gathered around.

"I haven't seen Starfire since yesterday but Beastboy is in the bathroom."

"Okay let's give them a sec." Robin said, starting to worry. Suddenly Beast Boy walked in confirming his suspicion. He immediately grabbed his communicator off of the night stand and called, "Starfire, come in!" but to his horror, the communicator in Aqualad's hand repeated. Immediately switching gears to leader-mode, Robin started quizzing the group.

"Who saw Starfire when and at what time?" He questioned with his voice inching toward a yell.

"I saw Starfire two days ago, in here before I went to sleep." Cyborg listed.

"I saw her leave your room crying yesterday and went to her room." Raven said with a hint of scolding in her voice. Everyone turned their attention to Robin before Beastboy could speak up.

"Late last night I heard her crying through the wall, so I offered her a snack, but she said she just wanted sleep. I didn't go in so I didn't see her but it was around 8pm." Beastboy filled one.

"That was right after I yelled at her..." Robin whispered realizing this was all on him."

"I'll go check her room!" Cyborg whispered as he hurried out of sight. He hated the way Robin had been acting towards Starfire lately. In taking care of Robin, he witnessed a majority of his bad moods. He knocked on the door with no reply so he went in. The room was cold from the window being left open overnight. There was no note or indication she was coming back but no indication she was gone forever. Silkie was upset and cuddled in her bed, eating a pillow in stress. Cyborg gathered up Silkie in his arms and went back to the team.

"She's gone." Cyborg whispered as he entered with Silkie in his arms.
