The Knife

Raven felt her head spinning from the memories now ingrained in her brain. She shook off the emotions and centered her mind back on what she needed to do. Glancing at her clock that read 6:38am, she realized she had spent much more time inside Beast Boy's memories than she had intended. She quickly paced out of her room, hoping not to run into anyone.

She made it to Beastboy's room and stared blankly at the mess he'd left, searching for a place to begin. Using her powers, she filed through all of the trash laying on the floor and floated it into a trash can. Raven proceeded to open drawers, move clothes, and lift furniture until she found the bloodied knife laying under his bunk beds. Without touching the knife, she gripped it with her powers and left to find Cyborg.

Raven made her way to the kitchen to see Cyborg cooking and Bumblebee sitting on the sofa, scrolling through the channels. With her cloak covering her face, she approached Cyborg from behind. He turned around in time to see her float the knife out from inside her cloak.

"I found this in Beast Boy's room..." Raven said coldly, sounding the calmest she had been since the incident. Bee jumped up and pushed Cyborg away from his cooking as Cyborg and Raven went off to run tests on the knife.

Raven followed Cyborg to the lab as he set up a sterile station at the table. She stayed back, a few feet behind Cyborg, to give him space. Cyborg searched in the microscope for hours while Raven stood back and watched blankly. She'd become so numb that she didn't recognize the time ticking by.

Meanwhile in Robin's room, Starfire was asleep on the floor next to Robin, who had stayed up all night researching. Starfire stirred against the wall and woke up to see Robin with his nose in a newspaper. Starfire looked over his scruffy black hair and his hunched shoulders. Robin's neck was craned and his body looked stiff.

"Robin?" Star muttered in a groggy whisper. Robin grunted without taking his gaze off of the newspaper. "I think, perhaps, you need rest?" Starfire whispered without a reply. She floated over and pulled on his arm.

"Hey! Knock it off!" Robin snapped as he ripped his arm away from Starfire. His masked eyes met with the hurt in her green eyes. She turned quickly and zoomed out the door before Robin could apologize.

She flew straight to her room and tumbled into her bed. Tears swelling in her eyes, she watched the door.

"Starfire, I'm sorry!" Robin called weakly through the door. Silence.

"Star please! I didn't mean to!" Robin pleaded. Silence. He tried to open the door but it was locked.

"Go away!" Starfire whispered into her purple pillow. Silkie crawled up onto the bed.

"Staaar...I'm sorry...I didn't mean to hurt you." Robin whispered into the door. Starfire heard the tap of his forehead against the wood of her door. Starfire floated up to the door and opened it. She turned away from him and floated back to her bed. Robin reached for her but didn't touch her. She sat on the bed and he walked over to sit next to her. Robin reached up and cupped her face with his hand. "Star, please talk to me!" He looked into her eyes and brushed a tear away with his thumb.

"I think, I wish you would sleep, please." Starfire whispered to the floor. She looked up to his mask, "You hurt me!"  with her jaw set.

"I know, Star, I'm sorry" Robin looked down and held her hand.

"I forgive you only if you go to the sleep." Starfire said sternly with her arms crossed.

"Okay." Robin whispered as he laid back into Starfire's bed with a grin.

"What are you...?" Starfire watched with confusing as Robin laid down in her bed with his eyes closed.

"Sleeping" he muttered and took his mask off and handed it to Starfire. Starfire's eye widened because it was such a rare sight. She had seen him without a mask once, but his eyes were closed.

"Blue!!" Starfire shouted as Robin grinned. She leaned back into bed and studied his eyes for a long time.
