SPECIAL CHAPTER

MARA laid down a bouquet of red roses. The sun had drifted off to sleep on her way here. The moon was hung high beside the heavens. The night was both bright and ethereal. All the stars were dancing to their favourite song.

"I always wonder what you're listening to." Mara takes a seat on the cold patch of grass. "The stars look so happy tonight." She smiled. "They must be dancing with you. Happy Valentines, Vie."

She stifles a yawn. "I'm sorry if you waited long. It was hectic today at the hospital. I'm finally a resident, baby. I'm one step closer to becoming a doctor. I'll be able to help people. I'll make sure they get better. I don't want them to be in pain."

Mara looked back at her past. She dreamed of many things. She had a lot of aspirations in life. Mavis and her passing had soon dawned upon Mara as an opportunity; one where she could put her own knowledge into practice. She hoped that she could help the people around her that were unable to care for themselves. So that they wouldn't have to suffer; neither the people around them. She knew how it felt to be at loss.

"I wish I could stay with you. I'm afraid that I'll be called back to work any minute now. I definitely don't think I should've gone this far...but it's a special day. I wanted to see you. I know I say this often; I bet you think I'm a broken record. But I really do miss you. I look back at our old memories. All the photos and videos...even the scrapbooks we used to make. But lately I've found myself looking up at the sky. Your home."

Mara looks at the twinkling of the stars. "I know I can't be selfish when I know that you're free from any pain up there. I just hope you miss me too. I hard a hard day the other night. I had a really bad encounter with one of my colleagues. I went out to get some fresh air. I could hardly breathe. But I saw you. A bunny. Don't ask me how I knew. I could just feel it. Besides, we barely see any bunnies around the hospital. I know for sure that it was you. You didn't leave. I like to think that you were watching from afar until I went back in. So thank you—for visiting. I really needed that."

Her phone buzzes twice in her pocket.

She sighed deeply. "I'm afraid that's my cue. Thank you for letting me see you. I love you so much, Mavi. I'll visit soon. Goodnight."
