You were an exchange student in Korea when you were sixteen. Only sort of two years later the exchange program was back and had chosen you. Again.

This time the high school was in Seoul and they had you staying in a dorm with another exchange student who was from Australia. It was her job on laundry that week and it was your job on groceries so that's where you were, shopping with the funded card you'd been given by the program.

You probably should've gone earlier, though. It was late and cold, not to mention it was dark and there was an eerie air about things.

You walked into the store and looked around. It was almost empty expect for one or two other people in another aisle as well as the employees. The light was pale and blue. The shelves were only half stocked and you saw some cans knocked down from a stack.

You bent down and picked up the cans to put them back. You hummed. Canned peaches. You put one in your shopping bag.

You wandered the empty white aisles in search for common groceries. As you passed, you put vegetables and fruits in your bag along with a couple snacks and a box of pasta. You kept on walking across the smooth tile, making your way to the checkout counter.

The store had gone completely silent except for the rattle of the pasta in your shopping bag, and the only other customers were standing in line. First was a small old lady who was checking out her veggies and next was a tall boy with dark hair.

You moved closer and stood in line behind him. His presence was familiar. His cologne was familiar. It couldn't be.

"Park Sunghoon." You breathed. The boy turned around to look at you. He was wearing a black bucket hat and a black mask, but you could recognize the midnight of his eyes anywhere.

You felt heat rise to your skin in embarrassment. Yet, you couldn't speak when all you wanted to do was apologize to the angel that stood in front of you.

"I'm sorry, did you say something?" He asked. His voice. It was him. Must be him. I'm in love with you. Your head chimed helpfully.

Shut up. You told it.

In front of the two of you, the small old lady was finishing up with her groceries and going to leave, completely unaware of your awkward situation. You could barely see that though. You were stuck in your own world. Stuck with Park Sunghoon.

"I thought..." Sunghoon trailed off and scanned your face, seeming to search your eyes. "You look familiar."

"Do- do I?" You shot your gaze away and stared into the unnaturally lighted grocery store. You couldn't help it when you looked back at his face.

"You do."

You felt sudden chills travel down your spine. The silence of the empty store felt heavy and you pitied the poor employee who witnessed this when they must be tired and wanting to go home.

You moistened your lips and broke eye contact. "I'm sorry..."

"I think I have your number, I'll text you when I get home."

"...I think you have the wrong person." You said softly. Your mary janes were suddenly so much more interesting than anything else. You tapped your foot on the floor nervously.

Sunghoon turned around and checked out his groceries. You watched his back as he left. The last you saw of him, his eyebrows were furrowed thoughtfully and there were storm clouds in his reminiscent eyes.

"Sorry about that." You apologized to the worker after she checked out your groceries. She gave you a tired smile, "It's okay. I'll have a story to tell my friends."

She doesn't know he's an idol? Okay, good.

You nodded, feeling as tired as the worker with so much on your mind. You gathered your groceries and let out a large sigh as you left the grocery store. As soon as you'd left, you saw the worker gather her things to come lock up.

It was so late and you just wanted to go home and lie down. You sighed again and walked the short distance back to your dorms in the bright illumination of the street lights.

Your grumpy Aussie roommate wasn't very happy with you when you returned, "It's so dark, are you insane!?" She asked as you unloaded the groceries. You ignored her, "Can you put the pasta away please."

She sent you a concerned but glaring side eye and cursed at you with her accent laying heavily on her words.

Her worried mother-like grumbling continued through dinner and until you settled into your twin beds. "Honestly y/n. I don't know how you're still alive at this rate."

"Me neither, but-" You stopped yourself when you heard the ding of a message on your phone. "He really did it didn't he." You muttered.

"Who!?" Your roommate grabbed your phone from the bedside table that was squished between your beds. Your eyes widened, "Hey!"

She glanced at your phone for a moment, "Not Park Sunghoon-?" She asked, but you'd already leaned over and snatched your phone from her hands.

You sent her a glare and she rolled her eyes. "Good god, y/n. I'm not trying to invade your love life or anything."

"You literally just- nevermind." You shook your head and looked down at the text. You could've sworn your heart stopped.

You stared at your phone in what almost felt like fear. "I'm not going to answer." You told yourself. "I'm not going to answer."

Even so, you spent the next half an hour or so staring at the message and letting thoughts run through your head. You blocked the memories, though. It's not like you had a chance.

[10:12pm]

you
yes

You turned off your phone as soon as you replied and shoved your face into your pillow, regretting your actions. "No, no, no." You mumbled into your pillow. "Stupid."

"Stupid who?" Your roommate whispered. You glanced at her, "You're awake?" You asked. She nodded and you stuffed your face back into your pillow.

"Stupid me."

The next day was a weekend and you half wished you had school to take your mind off your encounter, but you knew that even if you did have school, all you would be able to think about was Park Sunghoon.

You stared at you phone. You'd gotten a text while you were eating breakfast and you didn't know what to think.

not park sunghoon
do you know the milk tea shop on *** street?
can you meet me there at 11:30am

you
yea.

You once again regretted answering, but this time your heart swelled at his words. Did you have a chance? Did you have a chance?

Maybe.

You closed your eyes and ignored your breakfast. You let yourself remember your first kiss. Two years ago with Park Sunghoon.

You were scared because you were an exchange student all on your own, but somehow you'd managed to make friends with a slightly famous figure skater boy that went there. You of all people.

He was away a lot because of his ice skating, but the two of you grew close throughout the school year.

He became your first kiss spontaneously:

"I auditioned for Iland. Do you think I'll get in?" Sunghoon asked you. You sat beside him on his fluffy bed, "But you'll have to give up figure skating."

"I thought about that...do you think I'll get in?" He asked again. You nodded in response, "Yes. I don't care how shy you are about it, but I love it when you sing for me." You held out a hand for a high five, "We are the BEST introverted friends out there!"

"That's stupid." Sunghoon complained, but he high fived your hand anyway. The two of you sat in silence for a moment. Sunghoon trailed his gaze over your face.

"I'm sorry if this scares you, but can I please kiss you?" He whispered. You stared at him in surprise. What had happened to your innocent hoon?

Still, you felt your skin heat up. He was suddenly so beautiful. His pretty midnight eyes and his little beauty marks. He'd gotten a lot taller and had started looking a lot less like a baby compared to the beginning of the school year.

You nodded.

Sunghoon leaned forward, unsure of what he should do, and his lips touched yours. The kiss only lasted seconds but his soft touch was the best thing you'd ever felt.

He pulled away and leaned his forehead on yours for a moment. His warm breath touched your eyelashes and you couldn't help but notice that he smelled like fresh snow.

You tried to hide your smile, "Wow." You murmured. Sunghoon glanced at you softly with his cheeks rosy, "Yeah."

Sometimes you wondered why you tried to hide that memory. Of everything you'd ever experienced, that was the best memory in your life.

You stared back at your phone screen. At your reply.

"I have somewhere to be by 11:30! I'm going to go change." You called out to your roommate. You heard her yell an 'okay' from somewhere and you went off to get ready.

On your way out, your roommate stared at you in sarcastic amazement. "I know I haven't known you before this year, but I doubt that in all your years of high school you've dressed this nicely."

You looked down at your outfit. Sure, it was pretty, but it was simple. You smiled a little and looked up at your roommate. "I'm meeting Park Sunghoon."

"First kiss boy from your texts last night?" She asked. You nodded. "I don't think he knows I love him."

Your happy Aussie roommate patted your head, "Time to find out." She smiled. "Have fun."
