Stealer

Unknown: Flora, I'm sorry.

Unknown: It's just that I haven't seen my daughter in a long time

Unknown: I really want you to consider living with me for a while. It would be fun.

The darkness was easy on my eyes when the vibration from my phone work me up. Unlike the darkness, the light of my screen was harsh. This shit was like acid on the eyes but nothing was worse than being woken up by a dickwad who was texting me from a different phone about how I should live with him. I was indeed, not going to consider the shit that he would put me through.

Slamming my phone on the nightstand, I rolled over in my almost empty bed. Thorin was in his and honestly, I wished he wasn't. As crazy as it may seem, I slept better whenever we camped out in my room. But that night, I was riding solo. Well, sleeping solo but it was basically the same thing.

Slumber was about to find me once again, ready to drift me off into a land of dreams. But no. Someone just had to keep texting me. Huffing, I rolled over and was ready to verbally kill the person who was harassing my phone. The phone kept flashing on and off had it done when I posted that picture on Cutesy. Of course that wouldn't happen again. After coming to the realization that there were indeed men who were way over fifty on that app, I was a little grossed out and disgusted with myself.

My brows furrowed.

Mel: I'm coming over. Get ready to come outside.

Mel: we're going to be out for a while. wear black.

Mel: Snacks would be also appreciated.

I jumped out of my nice and warm bed and onto the floor without making a thud that would wake up my mother again. There was only a few people in this world that I would get out of bed for and Mel was one of them. I knew she was serious about coming over and that I didn't really have a choice in this matter. By her texts, it seemed like she was going on a mission and that I was invited.

The light in my closet flickered and allowed me to see all the dark clothes that I already owned. I grasped at the first long sleeved t shirt that I saw and a pair of black skinny jeans that I was beginning to feel more comfortable wearing. The clothes easily slid over me as I pulled them up aggressively. Black socks and black boots went on my feet in the matter of seconds. Looking in the mirror, I looked like I was ready to rob someone.

Just as I was about to turn off the light, I noticed something. Something that was missing. No, it wasn't the mesh shirt that Thorin wanted me to wear. It was there, and scrunched up. The bottle that held my caffeine pills was missing from the spot that I knew I had placed it in. There was only one other person besides my mother and I that have actually been in my room more specifically, my closet that would have been able to take them.

Thorin.

Mel: im outside.

As much as I was appreciative that Mel wanted to hang out with me, I was not appreciating the fact that this was in the middle of the night. Huffing, I placed the phone in my pocket and tried my best to open my door with minimal squeaking. The universe was finally on my side and didn't make the steps groan as I stepped on them, thinking that I was light as a feather. Me thinking that I was only an ounce would have been easier if I had an extra dosage of caffeine. But no. Thorin had to take it.

Each foot took a step after each other until I was on the last step. On the tip of the boots, I walked on the wooden floor until I was at the front door. Only inches separated me, the door and the crazy woman that was behind it. Slowly, I opened the door, leaving me vulnerable to the outside world.

"Psst." I heard the noise. Furrowing my brows, I closed the door and looked back and forth to see where the noise came from. "Pssst. Flora." It was Mel. "In the bushes." She hissed. Her body made an outline in the darkness of the bushes that were in front of my house.

Like I've said before, it was going to take a doctor to remove the eyeballs that were rolling to the back of my head because of Thorin and Mel. Huffing, I crouched down and began to speed walk to the black figure that was Mel. She greeted me with a small wave while going back to eyeing the house that was in front of my own.

"Why are we spying again?" I said in a hushed voice so my neighbors wouldn't think that we were robbers like Stacey and Matt had did.

"Because I think Thorin is going to more places than your house. He could be cheating on you."

I choked. The lump in my throat tried to force me into a coughing fit that would totally disrupt our stake out but I held it in. Breathing heavier than usual, I swallowed and forced the cough that wanted to leave back in. Mel and I talked, but I never talked about what Thorin and I talked about.

"Uh-"

"When did I know that you two were dating?" She slowly turned with a cocky smirk on her lips. "Puh-lease. I knew you two were dating the moment I found out that he was sneaking into your room." If she wanted to think that she knew that Thorin and were a thing, I was going to let her.

My heart dropped when I saw Thorin hitch his black gym back over his shoulder and proceeded to walk down the sidewalk. Mel must of sent the same memo because he was also in all black as we were. First time being someone's girlfriend and I already felt like I was being a bad one because I was spying on him with his cousin. In all fairness, I was just invited but it would be nice to know exactly where he was going.

Plus I had to get those pills back if I wanted to cut down on my weight and go hard at the gym.

We sat in silence, watching the tall Irish boy to disappear into the darkness and out of our sights.

"Did you bring the snacks?" From the total absence on words, I was becoming used to the silence. That was until Mel something and made me jump slightly.

"No." I couldn't believe that she was still keen on the snacks after we watched her cousin for a good five minutes. Hell, one would think that she would be more into the fact that her cousin is going out at night to some mysterious place.

She sighed while getting up. Her hand went to mine and help me get up. "Fine. Let's go follow him." The keys in her hand dangled and clicked against each other, making the same amount of annoyance as the person holding it.

********

In Mel's car, we stayed a few feet away from the one that Thorin was driving. The black illegal one that he had sported a few times. It was probably the same one that he used to keep my pill bottle in it. I'm not an addict, I can go a long time without taking one of the red suckers that jump started my day. But I was pissed. He didn't have to sneak them out of my room, he could have asked for them.

We eventually ended up in a part of town that even I didn't even know about. Abandoned buildings surrounded us. Darkness created shadows that danced and looked like demons on the streets. Animals scurried around, looking for food or maybe even someone to eat. Thorin stopped his car near a building that had an alley next to it.

Mel and I watched Thorin get out of his car and walk into the alley. After a few moments, we got out of our own car and walked quietly. We were met with the same alley that Thorin had walked into and saw there was nothing more than a metal door. At that point, I knew we should have gone back because nothing good comes from some dark metal door in an equally dark alley. But no, Mel just had to be fucking crazy and continue to go to it.

I watched as her hand went to the metal door and proceeded to knock. A man with squinting eyes instantly slid the large peephole of the metal to look at two girls who had no business being there.

"Password." He said with a rough voice.

Mel looked at me and I looked her with raised eyebrows. I didn't know the password and obviously she didn't know either. "Password?" Mel didn't really sound too convincing when saying that.

"Wrong." The piece of metal slid back, taking away the mean eyes.

"What are we going to do?" Mel hissed.

I had to think quickly because Mel was getting pissed and I didn't want some giant man to come from that door to beat the living shit out of us. This was time to put forth the ability of having not just a great poker face, but a lying face. It was time to let my powers shine through this one time so Mel wouldn't start threatening the guy with her accent that was getting thicker by the second.

Holding my breath, I knocked on the door this time.

"No password, no entry." I felt the weight of his mean stare once again.

"Listen." I said in a deeper than usual voice. "My boyfriend is in there and I need to talk to him."

"You can wait outside."

Licking my lips, I turned my head and then back at him. What I was about to say was never going to leave my mouth ever again. It wasn't really said it was more blurted out but still, the guy heard it. "I'M PREGNANT AND MY BOYFRIEND WON'T SPEAK TO ME AND THE HORMONES ARE MAKING ME CRAZY AND I JUST NEED TO TALK TO HIM. So please." My words quivered. "Let us in."

"Password accepted." He shut us out once again before opening the door, forcing a loud creaking sound into our ears.

I shrugged at Mel who had her jaw dropped before moving into the building. "What was the password?" I whispered to her.

"Crazy." The man said, invading our conversation. I was honestly okay with it if it meant the giant was happy.

Makes sense.

The place did look crazy. We were in a hallway that was dark, dirty look and not the place that I wanted to be. My ass stayed behind and allowed Mel to walk up in front of me. She wasn't much taller than me, only a couple of inches but the way that she held herself, she looked intimidating. Plus it helped that she had a six pack and muscular arms. The only six pack I had was of pudding.

"Flora... You're not actually..." Mel said, slightly turning her head.

"NO!" I yelled back, ending any assumption that she would have had.

Since Mel was asking questions.. it was time for me also to ask what I've been wondering for a few days now.

"Mel, why were you crying the other day?" My tone was soft to not scare her into a mute.

She slightly chuckled. "I wasn't crying."

"Uh. Yes you were." Was I dense sometimes? Yes, but I know when someone is crying.

"Eh... My eyes were just sweaty because I let you down." She talked softly despite it was just the two of us in the glistening hallways that bounced the red lights that were hitting them, into our vision.

"You didn't let me down."

"Yes, I did." She scoffed. "I had one job, to keep you safe at that party."

My hand went to my chest, almost trying to grasp my heart that began to swell. "I left on my own."

"Still, I'm supposed to be there for you."

I grasped her shoulder. "Mel, you have been there for me. Even when I've been a bitch and tried to keep you out. Don't ever think that you haven't been there for me." It was true, the cousins had been there for me. Even when I'm a total bitch and tried to ignore them. They still wanted to be friends no matter what.

Melody sported a weak smile on her red face. "I love you, man." She sniffed, trying to hold back the tears.

"I love you too, buddy."

It didn't take long until we were where we wanted to be. The place that Thorin was. It wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the fact that a bunch of men formed a human circle around Thorin and another guy. They yelled and hollered while my boyfriend, it weird but also nice saying that, was punching and getting punched.

"Come on Logan! Beat his ass!" A bald man with scrunched up money in his hand yelled while waving the said cash into the circle. "He's a wimp!"

I'm guessing Logan, Thorin's opponent was a man who was definitely shorter than Thorin but also more muscular. Don't get me wrong, Thorin's body was something that I enjoyed looking at a lot. He was just someone who was leaner instead of the beefy guy that he was against. Just as he would be at my house, in my bed, Thorin was shirtless. The lines that carved his lower abdomen and traveled past where his black skinny jeans ended came into my view once again.

"What do you want to do now?" I stepped onto the tips of my toes to ask Mel who was still watching her cousin getting punched.

She bolted to the front of the circle while yelling. "Thorin! You blooday arsehole! You better win or I'm going to kick yer arse!" Melody Hamilton was gone and now a bloodthirsty, ravenous fighter had taken her place and began to cheer on her cousin who threw a punch and landed his fist on the guy's cheek.

I know it was kind of bad, but I was proud of Thorin for getting that punch in.

"Break!" A man stepped in the middle and broke up the fight. Thorin stepped back and with a towel, Mr. Louis came up to him to wipe the excess blood off of him and hand him a water.

"Mr. Louis?" I scrunched my face while walking up the bleeding boy and science teacher, let me repeat that, science teacher who was acting like Thorin's assistant. "What are you doing here?"

"There's no action in teaching science." He said slowly.

"More like, what are you doing here?" Thorin chimed in, taking a sip of the water that was in his hand. I rolled my lips together, trying to think of something to say, trying to use my poker face once again.

"Hey, I'm just trying to be a good supportive girlfriend." I held up my hands to create a little space between the oncoming sweaty body of Thorin's and my non-sweaty body.

I knew he that he was trying to not smile at the fact that I said 'girlfriend' because I was doing the same thing. As much as he tried to be serious in this matter, it didn't work out in his favor. "Did you guys follow me?" His eyes squinted.

"No, I used my keen senses to smell out my caffeine pills that you took from my closet." My eyes rolled.

"Why didn't you tell me that you were fighting Thorin?" Mel added.

"Are you serious?" Thorin scrunched his forehead. "You would have told your dad, like you've done a million times before."

Her eyes squinted. "What does that mean?"

"It means," Thorin's tone was sharp, so sharp I thought my ass was going to get stabbed. "that you do nothing but rat people out and spy on them."

"I'm not going to tell on you... for this." Her eyes rolled.

"You're not?" Her cousin questioned.

"No, fuck that, this is awesome." His cousin chuckled. "I want to do it." Big shocker there.

The same man that announced that announced the break came back. "Continue!"

"Flora, we're going to discuss that later." He said, patting on my shoulder. "You and Mel get out of here."

"No." I said, standing my ground.

"Aww, Thorin is your little girlfriend going to stay here and watch your ass get kicked?" The man who was cheering for Thorin's opponent also thought it was okay to cut into our a conversation. He wheezed while laughing.

Thorin ignored him and kept his eyes on me. His hand went to my chin, lightly grasping it and lifting my face to his. Even though we had a make out session in my room a few hours earlier, he placed his lips on mine once again. Embarrassment washed over me when the crowd began to say 'woo' in unison.

Quickly, I was left with the memory of the pressure of his lips. As much as I wanted to stand there and kiss Thorin in front of a bunch of sweaty dirty men, my science teacher and his cousin, I wanted him to kick that guy's ass. Not just his opponent, but also the guy who was saying shit towards Thorin.

The guy stepped out of the middle. "Go!"

I gripped my hands, trying to not worry because this guy, Jack or whatever looked like he was serious. He shuffled his feet a few times, inching near Thorin before backing up. Thorin sighed, looking annoyed and punched the guy. The room went silent as the man that was once stepping around Thorin, dropped like a bag of bricks.

Again, I know I shouldn't have been proud but I was.
