Preparation

I sat at the lunch table, minding my own business while watching the other kids that interacted with each other. My hand held my resting chin and allowed me to see others with little effort. Honestly, it was pretty comfy and I was ready to fall asleep from taking a break from taking an excess caffeine. Plus it was pretty close to nap time according to my hooded lids that tried to cover up my eyes.

Thorin was walking toward the table with a blank expression on his face and tray in his hand. He passed a bunch of girls who stopped and turned their heads to watch him walk. I couldn't help but grin at his lack of realization that a whole table of girls was looking at his ass. Instead of noticing that people were indeed checking him out, his eyes caught mine. The once blank look on his face turned into a cocky smirk.

My eyes rolled, trying to look at the back of my head instead of him. I pursed my lips to not give away that his somewhat goofy face was making me smile. But I needed the smile. Tj was still on the back of my mind and I was pissed as hell. He was such an asshole last night and I just wanted to be done with the dick.

But something kept me wanting to talk to him. One would think with all the intelligence that I have, I wouldn't want to talk to someone like that. But I did. It was nice to talk to someone, share my troubles and not be afraid of them somehow using it to blackmail me or hurt me.

He was coming closer and the eye contact that we were holding wasn't breaking either. As much as I wanted to look away and try to not think about him, I couldn't. My ass was too tired and it took too much energy just to turn mine. So I did what most other lazy people would do: sit there and watch and try to not act too creepy.

A kid was talking to another one while walking in front of the Devil himself, not paying the same amount of attention as I was. The boy laughed at something that his friend had said and in response the laughter, his eyes closed but somehow he kept on walking. Slightly frowning his lips, Thorin stopped abruptly. Not wanting to lose the food on his tray, his long arm went up into the air with it and made sure it was a few inches away from the kid's head.

I felt my jaw wanting to drop like one of those old cartoons at the sight of Thorin's shirt slightly lifting up, revealing likes that carved the sides of his lower abdomen. Thankfully, my hand was still holding my chin and keeping my jaw from moving. Thorin noticed this as he lowered his tray and finally made his way to the table.

"Checking me out?" He said, putting his tray down and taking the seat right next to me.

I snorted. "I wasn't checking you out, I was watching the people behind you." Finally, the energy came to me and allowed me to turn my head to the side and away from Thorin.

"Oh please, you were giving me the 'fuck me' eyes."

The air that was passing through my throat and filling my lungs was suddenly cut off by a series of coughs. My hand slightly banged against the table as the short puffs were forced out of my mouth as an attempt to try and open up my windpipe. Some of the people who sat at the opposite end of the table watched as I heaved and tried not to die. I looked at them, giving them the thumbs up as the coughing steadily died down as the tears in my eyes formed.

Thorin's hand went to my back and slowly rubbed it as if that would make the coughing fit stop.

"I don't know what that is, but I know it's something I would ever give you." The coughing stopped, allowing me to gasp and tell Thorin that he was wrong. The only reason for me to breathe was to tell Thorin that he was wrong.

He looked kind of shocked. "Wait, you don't know 'fuck me' eyes?"

I shook my head. "You act like I talk to other people." My chin went back to my chin while looking at the other kids. I was still wondering why Thorin wasn't sitting in the seat in front of me like he usually did but again, I didn't have the energy to fight it.

"Flora." He drew out my name. "You gotta know what that looks like, especially for the party."

"Oh you mean the party that you're not going to?" Burn.

His finger pointed at me. "Yes. You need to know so you can tell and slap the guy away."

"You're acting like a dad." My voice came out monotone.

I saw a little twinkle in his eyes the moment I said 'dad'. "I did tell you to call me daddy, Flora." He winked.

It was going to take a doctor to surgically remove my eyes from their rolled position in the back of my head because I was rolling them so hard. I had to look away from the idiot so wouldn't see the sudden distortion on my cheeks from the heat rising on them, turning them pink like a pig.

He paused for a moment and tried to bathe in the coolness that he thought he had created for himself. "Here, just look at me." His hand went to my cheek, gently pushing it until we were face to face. Thorin's eyes bore into mine, as they usually did.

"I don't see a difference." My lips went into a straight line.

"Well-"

"What are you two doing?" Mel said, sitting down next Thorin's original seat that happened to be taken by Sai.

I jumped, jutting away from Thorin's hand and back to my little personal space. Thorin huffed while turning back to his tray and proceeded to change the way he looked. He didn't have the same look that he usually did whenever he looked at me. If anything, he looked annoyed at his cousin.

"Nothing." I said without messing up the word. It's just one word, but in that situation, I was still a little shook from her coming up on us. "How long have you been there, Sai?"

"I came with Mel." His answer was short and straight to the point, mostly because he basically hated talking.

As much as I was embarrassed from what she saw, I was still proud of Mel. She was sitting next to Sai and acting totally normal and not like the girl who was gushing about him the other day in the food court. Of course, that was Mel. She was tough, cool, and looked like she was ready to fight but deep down she was still a girl with the world's biggest crush on a guy.

Mel caught me looking at her and smiled. "I can't wait for tonight!"

"....me too." I said, trying to meet her excitement. Mel looked disappointed at my lack of expression but I couldn't help it. I would rather be home, reading a good book and making sure my windows were locked to keep a certain someone out.

"Oh come on, Flora. Just think, we're going to dance, see people, listen to good music." She placed her hand on my arm as if that was really going to cheer me up. Two of the three things she listed was on my list of 'things I freaking hate'.

"Yeah." I chuckled nervously.

"You know what? Sai, you should come." She turned her attention towards him.

I wanted to clap and actually squeal for her and her attempt at inviting him with us. It was adorable how her eyes twinkled while looking at the guy who was more about the book that was in front of him.

Slowly, he placed the book done and looked up, squinting his eyes as if the lights were too bright for his brown eyes. "No thank you."

One would have to be blind to not see the hurt that filled her eyes.

********

Groans slowly left my mouth as I sat on my bed, playing with my thumbs and watching Mel play with her orange curls in my mirror. "Shh." Mel hushed me, still playing with her hair. Of course, I groaned louder and laid my back on the bed. "Oh stop it!" She groaned herself.

"I can't." I whined at the ceiling. "I don't want to get dressed."

The thought of going back home was running through my mind. I was at Mel's house because my mother thought I was spending the night there which I was. What she didn't know was that I was going to be out for a part of the night but I was indeed, sleeping over there.

My bed thudded by the weight and force Mel pushed onto it when lying down next to me. "Why not?"

I pursed my lips to the side and began to think about why the fact that we were going to a party full of people was not that appealing to me. The idea about kids puking, grinding on each other and the possibility of drugs mixed with alcohol didn't really settle with me. Again, I didn't know why I said yes to that girl, maybe it was the fact that she was there and giving me the infamous puppy face or maybe my food was drugged. Either way, I was not happy with my decision.

A huff came from my mouth. "I don't know if it'll be safe." I know it would safe from things like vampires and demons or zombies but that didn't mean it would be safe from assholes. Don't get me wrong, I was somewhat becoming more confident and not as scared of other people as I used to. But then again, we were getting ready for a party where people don't act the same way they do at school.

Mel snorted. "Flora, my dear. I can kick ass like there is no tomorrow, one punch and a man twice my size would be taken down." Her knuckles cracked. "There is no reason why it wouldn't be safe with me around. I'll be by your side the whole time and we'll have a good time. Plus, there'll be free food." She wiggled her eyebrow.

I looked at her and then back at the ceiling. "Are you sure?"

"Positive." Her response was quick.

My abs cried out when my spine forced it to bend when my torso slowly got up from the bed. The floor made my footsteps toward to Mel's closet audible. Hesitantly, I began to take the clothes that I borrowed from Stacey and brought them into the light. They were in there because my mom would have questioned why I was all dressed up for a sleepover.

"Mel." I spoke out, getting her attention. She too groaned while trying to sit up. "This is why I don't want to go to the party."

Now, I could be smart and just not wear the outfit but I would have then felt bad. My ass was at Stacey's house for at least three hours until Stacey hand picked the outfit herself. I tried to leave but she wouldn't let me until she found the perfect clothes for me to wear.

Her lower jaw dropped with her hands underneath it. "Girl."

"That's it, I'm going to take this back to Stacey's and go home." I threw the clothes over my arm and began to walk away.

I was pretty sure Mel was a ninja in a past life from her quick reactions. She jumped up from the bed and caught me from putting a hand on her closed door's handle. Her hand went around my wrist gave me a creepy laugh.

"You're not going anywhere except for that party in that outfit."

My hand slightly shook. "Mel, you're scaring me." I began to step away from the door and the monster that was keeping me prisoner in the room. Her fingers wiggled as her eyes flickered between me and the clothes that were on my arm.

Pretty sure her eyes became red too.

Ayyee, it's the middle of the week somewhere, right? Anyway, here's another chapter. There should be another one either Friday or Saturday, don't know which day though. Most likely it will be Friday and then I'll post another one next Wednesday. Remember:
