Noel is not in history class with Stiles and Scott. While the two walk down the hall and talk about Derek teaching Scott how to control his anger, they don't mention Noel or his absence. When Scott says Derek is picking him up after work, Stiles says "That gives me 'til the end of the school day then." "To do what?" Scott asks, to which Stiles replies "To teach you myself." He walks out of frame, and can be heard saying "Where's Noel? He can help us too." This makes Scott smile.

Noel is eating lunch with Scott and Stiles in the next scene, but is distracted by his book and not really into their conversation until "Your Yoda, I will be." This makes Noel snort and drop his book, laughing along with Scott and Stiles.

Later during Scott and Stiles' training session, Noel doesn't contribute much, mostly sitting in the bleachers and watching what happens while he reads his book. When Stiles binds Scott's wrists with duct tape, Noel calls out "You think duct tape can stop a rampaging werewolf?" Stiles glares at him before starting to chuck the lacrosse balls at his friend. Noel yells a few tips to Stiles as he throws the balls, things like "Aim a little higher!" "Pretend he's Jackson!" "Follow through with those tosses, Stiles!" This only makes things more enjoyable for Stiles.

When Scott breaks out of the duct tape handcuffs, Noel drops his book and runs onto the field. Jackson then notices that his cousin was sitting there the whole time, and now he's even more intrigued by the whole situation.

Noel kneels down beside Scott with Stiles, but doesn't say anything to further the conversation.

In the next scene with Scott and Stiles in the locker room, Noel walks beside them. When Scott says "You guys have seen Derek, the guy's completely alone." Noel knits his eyebrows together and says "But I was at his house a couple nights ago, there was a woman there."

"A one night stand doesn't count as a friend, Noel," Stiles says, Noel looking confused before Scott continues with "Either way, Allison isn't a one night stand. What if I can never be around her again?"

"Well if you're not dead, that can be a good thing," Stiles says, Noel elbowing him in the rib and shooting him a glare.

When Scott says it smells like something is "rotting or dying," Noel says "Probably just Greenberg's week old boxers again. Remember last time he left those in his locker?" He Scott and Stiles share a laugh at that, as they leave the locker room and Jackson reveals himself in his weakened state.

During econ, Noel sits next to Scott. When Allison says to Scott "Maybe I can bring your grade up", Stiles and Noel have a twin eye roll moment.

He's not in the next scene with Scott and Stiles in the hallway, or with them when Scott gets in trouble for keying the car, or with them in detention.

When Derek finishes his talk with Peter in the home, he goes out to his car and gets inside. When he does, Noel is sitting in the passenger's seat. Derek looks at him, seemingly unsurprised as he says nothing, just starting the car and driving. After a few beats, Noel looks at him and says "Aren't you gonna ask me what I'm doing here?"

"I know what you're doing here," Derek says without looking at him and keeps driving. Noel accepts that answer, looking out the front windshield and smiling softly.

At the vet's office with Deaton, Noel stays out of sight as Derek confronts the man about being the alpha. He listens from where he stands in the hallway, gasping in shock when Derek slams Deaton onto the operating table. When Derek lifts Deaton's chair off the ground, Noel rushes in and says "Derek, that's enough!"

Shortly after, Scott enters as well, shoving Noel to the side as he runs to Derek to stop him from hurting Deaton. By this point, Noel is unfazed when Scott takes his beta form, watching silently from where he stands off to the side.

When Scott tells Derek to meet him at the school parking lot in an hour and Derek turns to leave, he looks at Noel as if expecting something out of him.

Noel looks between Scott and Derek before following Derek out the door. Scott watches Noel go, looking slightly shocked that the boy isn't staying with him.

When Derek arrives at the school, Scott says to Stiles "He's here." Stiles looks at Derek's car before saying "And he brought Noel. Perfect."

When Noel and Derek get out of the car, Noel is wearing Derek's leather jacket.

Scott asks Derek "Where's my boss?" Derek says "In the back," and we see Deaton in the back tied up with duct tape over his mouth. Noel says "I told him the duct tape was excessive, but he wouldn't listen to me."

Stiles says "Wow, Noel, you're so generous it physically hurts me." Noel smiles and shrugs sarcastically as Derek bumps their shoulders together and crosses his arms, reminding Noel to look tough and brooding if he's gonna be wearing Derek's jacket.

When Stiles and Scott back away from Derek's car, Noel moves to join them. Stiles says "Whoa, what do you think you're doing?"

"I'm coming with you, what does it look like?" Noel replies, and Scott and Derek both say "Stay."

Noel turns and looks at Derek, the werewolf keeping his eyes on Scott and refusing to look at Noel. Noel sighs and rejoins Derek, leaning against the car as Scott has his brief exchange with Derek and leaves to go inside the school.

He doesn't go with Scott and Stiles, staying with Derek.

When Scott howls the first time and Derek is shown, Noel has his back pressed against the car with Derek standing in front of him, boxing him in. They're not standing too close together, but the implication is there, loud and clear. "You've gotta be kidding me," Derek says and Noel asks "Was that Scott?"

"Who else would it be?" Derek asks as he moves to stand beside Noel instead of in front of him, pinching the bridge of his nose in exasperation as the pathetic howl continues.

The next time Scott howls, when it's done successfully, Derek mom-arms Noel to the car and looks around for any sign of the alpha. Noel doesn't take his eyes off Derek as he does this, breathing heavily from the jolt of fear he got when Scott howled.

Later when Scott and Stiles come back and it's revealed that Deaton is gone, Noel looks just as confused as Derek. When the alpha comes in and stabs Derek from behind, Noel screams Derek's name in shock and fear. The alpha moves to grab Noel and lift him off the ground as well, but Stiles grabs him just in time. He takes hold of Noel's arm, pulling him away from Derek and the alpha and dragging him with Scott into the school while he screams.

Stiles and Scott seal the doors and hold them shut, and Noel begs in a whisper "We have to go back, we have to go get him. Scott, we have to go back! He's gonna die if we leave him out there with the alpha!"

Stiles grabs Noel and covers his mouth with one hand, shushing him as his other hand holds the door to the school closed. Noel struggles briefly before Scott puts a hand on his knee, hoping to help calm him down. The episode ends as it does in canon.
