Pretty.

The knock on the door made my heart beat even faster. I felt sick to the stomach with nerves when the door clicked and opened. She stood there looking terrible as she stared at me.

"Anna please hear me out." I smiled.

"What?"

"I don't know what's going on but I love you."

"Kelly it's come back. It's back and I can't fight it this time. I'm scared..."

"Don't be scared..."

"I'm terrified. I'm not scared to die but I'm scared of what I will be leaving behind."

"Listen to me. The best place to get you right now is at the hospital okay? Please come with me? I'll stay at your side. I promise you there's no reason to be scared." I hugged her, holding her tightly in my arms. She finally let me inside to help her pack a bag with her stuff and along with her dad we headed to Med and back to the ward she was on before. Getting admitted and settled down into a room. Her dad sat down at her side as I stood outside the door watching her from inside. It was clear just how ill she was. Her doctor come over and smiled as he stood next to me.

"What are her chances?"

"She's started on chemo medication already but there's a high chance she's doing okay." He patted my back. I went in there and her dad smiled, hugged me and left me. I stood at her side and smiled.

"Why are you hovering?" She laughed.

"I'm going to ring up and take the next shift off work."

"No Kelly. Your going to work. I'll see you later." She squeezed my hand before making sure I left the room and headed off to the firehouse. Gabby hugged me straight away.

"How did it go?"

"She's dying. She's ill again but I'm staying at her side." I smiled pouring myself a cup of coffee. I practically one shotted it but then we got a call out to a house fire. We rescued a elderly women who refused to leave the house. It was heart breaking and then Boden came speeding to the scene.

"Kelly it's Anna you need to get to med." He chucked the keys to his car at me and I sped off to med in a panicked frenzy of anxiety and panic attacks. When I got there I practically ran in there and saw how bad she looked.

"What's going on?" I wiped a singular tear from my cheek.

"The medication isn't working anymore and she's contracted a infection. We've started her on some auto immune boosters but I'm not sure there going to work..." The doctor smiled again, as he left us to it. Her dad hugged me before leaving. I sat down at her side and felt emotionless even though I began to cry.

"Hey, hey, hey, come on stop crying..." She whispered.

"I'm sorry. I love you."

"I love you too." She smiled as I kissed her head. I pulled the sofa closer to her bed and held her hand as I positioned myself under my jacket so we could both try and get some sleep.

My phone ringing made me jump. Turns out it was only a alarm. I rubbed my eyes before seeing the signs and the wristband on her arm. As I got up the doctor come in again.

"What's with the DNR? I know Anna. I know what she wants. She doesn't want this."

"Well Kelly she signed the paperwork this morning." He sighed before disappearing out onto the ward. I sat back down and squeezed Anna's hand. She opened her eyes slightly but her heart rate was low.

"Anna why have you done this?" I sighed.

"Because I'm not fighting anymore. There's no point.." She smiled, holding both my hands.

"Anna you can do this.." I smiled.

"No I really can't. Kelly can we focus on the good memories.." She laughed. She was struggling to keep her eyes open anymore.

"Like when we went ice skating?"

"Exactly. We met because I gave you my bone marrow." I laughed.

"I know. What a way to become friends. I'm sorry I called off our engagement. You can ask me again if you want?" She closed her eyes.

"Anna I love you like the sun loves the moon. You are my best friend and honestly you are the only thing that matters to me. I would be honoured for you to be a part of my life. Will you marry me?"

"Aha. I will..." The monitor began to decrease until it flatlined.

"Anna no. Come on. Anna. Why aren't you helping her?" I shouted as the doctors come in. "Help her! Anna. Wake up. I love you.." I began sobbing as her dad pulled me into his arms.

* * *

"I'm so sorry Kelly." Was all I kept hearing. I zoned myself out as I sat down in the armchair. I looked out the window. Hands shaking, I could feel the tears falling down my cheeks. I could hear everyone leaving. Stella come over and left a folder full of photos and stuff on the chair next to me before leaving as well. I opened the folder and it was all the pictures and everything off of the pin board Anna had on her wall.

"I'm making food if you want some." Gabby squeezed my shoulder before going off into the kitchen and I heard her cry into Matt's arms.

"Lieutenant Kelly Severide has gone away on P.T.O because of the past few days. We don't know when he'll be back but until then Lieutenant Gabriella Dawson-Casey will be joining Captain Casey by taking over squad 3." Boden smiled. I hugged Ruby before my mum took her off to school and joined Matt in my new lieutenant top. He put his arm round me and smiled.

"I wouldn't try to ring him or anything for a little while. Give him space and time to calm down and relax." I smiled wrapping my hands and getting ready for the boxing session we were about to have. Just as we got prepared we got a call out. Brett and her new stand in partner ran to the ambo. I made my way to Squad truck while Capp drove. I got my jacket on and sorted myself out.

"You got lucky." I laughed punching him in the arm. He just rolled his eyes and smiled. We jumped out on scene and it was a rather strange call. This building was falling apart. There was a entire wall missing. Like there was smoke and falling rubble.

"I want squad in and up. Body check and count. Any casualties bought down. I want a clinic triage put up down here. I want truck on safety check."

"No way. My truck lads are going in. Squad can safety check." Matt called.

"Excuse me captain?"

"Dawson. I'm your captain you do as your told."

"Squad 3. Let's go in there and let's get any injured out." I smiled, getting kitted up.

*
"Dawson don't you dare." I radioed as they all ran in there. I stood there anxiously waiting while my lads went around doing a safety check. After 6 hours everyone was treated and we were packing up.

"Dawson what the hell did you think you were doing?" I shouted.

"Captain if it hadn't of been for my lads going in there when we did. The body count would of been 45 where as now it's only 30. We saved 15 people."

"Don't you dare overall my commands again Lieutenant."

"Captain Casey. Don't underestimate my rulings again. Don't ever tell me I can't do something. We are on equal levels now. The difference being 1 of us is being paid more and there's a extra title."
