No Way Out.

"How are you feeling today?" He smiled as I sat up and flinched in pain.

"Good. I'm good." I faked a smile and waited for him to leave the bedroom. I pushed the quilt back and noticed the blood on the sheets. I took a deep breath and very carefully got up, holding my pelvis area and hip in agony. I stripped the bed sheets and changed out of my blood stained bottoms.

"Do you want anything to eat?" Matt shouted from the kitchen.

"No thanks."

"Okay well I'll see you later. I love you." I listened and waited until the apartment door shut, now it was just me and Kelly, but he was still asleep. I went into the kitchen with everything, I was sweating and light headed. I lost my balance and fell into the counter, knocking a plate on the floor and hearing it smashing, Kelly came running in and looked at the mess in front of him.

"Sorry. I knocked it off."

"Gabby are you okay?" He seemed really concerned as he helped me back to my feet and picked up the washing for me. He saw the blood straight away and looked at me panicked.

"Yeah I'm fine. Just a little incident last night." I smiled, taking the washing and carrying on. I had never felt this ill in my entire life. I think it was the painkillers I was on, they must be reacting bad with my body. I had to sit down a few times so I didn't pass out. I knew Kelly was watching me from the living room right up until he went to work. When he went I just gave up and laid on my bed squeezing a pillow, one in my arms, one between my knees, I was screaming and crying into the quilt....

I was just filling in some paperwork in my office when there was a knock on the door. I smiled as Kelly come in.

"Hiya Mate. Sorry to bother you but did you see Gabby this morning?"

"What do you mean?" I smiled.

"She was poorly this morning."

"She seemed okay this morning Kelly."

"No she changed the bed sheets because she was bleeding, and she was yellow, sweating, she fell over as well." He sighed.

"Okay well thank you. I'll check it out as soon as I get a moment." I smiled, as he left to go back to whatever. I tried to call Gabby but couldn't get through or anything. I left it as she was probably sleeping, she did say she was tired. I left it and carried on with shift.

*
I made it to the shop and got myself a trolley. I felt sick and I was still sweating a lot. I was holding myself up with the trolley as my eyes were blurring and stuff. I felt so sick about all of this. I started going wavy as I put things in the trolley then I fell to the floor and felt so ill.

"Are you okay?"

"Sweet?"

"Darling are you okay?" Was all I heard. My head was spinning. My ears ringing, this woman laid me down on the cold floor and rested my head om her knee.

"You'll be okay sweetheart." She smiled. "The ambulance is on it's way."

*
"Matthew Casey? Can you give us some ID?"

"Over the phone? Seriously?"

"Okay fine. Fiancée's name?"

"Gabby?"

"Okay well she had a accident earlier so can you try and get here as quick as you can please?" I just sighed and looked around for Kelly. I went out into the common room with him and pulled him to one side.

"I need to go. Gabby's had  accident apparently and I need to go to med. Can you cover for me please?" I smiled.

"Yeah sure. Let me know what's going on though okay?" He patted me on the back before I went off to med. As soon as I got there I asked at reception for her and Will come and found me.

"What happened?"

"I'm not sure. We got told the ambulance was called to the local shopping centre, she had fallen over and passed out without actually passing out. I'm not to sure but she's sweating, still yellow looking and stuff. I'm a bit concerned it's some kind of infection but I'm not sure. " He smiled, flicking through the paperwork.

"Yeah well Kelly told me earlier she was changing the bed sheets because she'd been bleeding quite a bit." I sighed.

"Okay well we'll see what we can do." He left me as I went into her little room on the ward. She was laying there sweaty cold skin, yellow tinge, the white's of her eyes were yellow, she was shaking.

"Matt. How did you know I was here?" She whispered.

"Will rang me. Remember you've got a next of kin listed down as me." I laughed, I went to hold her hand but she moved her hand away from mine. I sighed and watched as she grabbed the little brown sick bowl and threw up for 20 minutes. She was getting a lot worse, she had blood in her sick.

"We got the blood test results back and Gabby is in septic shock. She's suffering with a blood infection and now it's gone into sending her body into shock. She'll be okay. We need to keep her in over night though." Will kept a stern look on his face as we stood at the end of the bed.

"Right okay. What do you need to do to make her better?"

"Breathing machine (mechanical ventilation), Dialysis, Drugs to treat low blood pressure, infection, or blood clotting, Fluids given directly into a vein (intravenously), Oxygen, Sedatives, Surgery" He sighed, we went into her room, and like he said he gave her some medicine to raise her blood pressure, some blood clotting drugs, fluids were given intravenously, sedatives and put her on both a breathing machine and a dialysis machine but did the breathing machine through a tube in her nose so she  could still talk to me. I sat at the edge of her bed as we moved into ICU to care for her properly. She was awake just very shallow breathing, she was tired and still felt really ill.

*

"Kelly? Where's Matt?" Chief called from the common room in front of everyone.

"Popped out." I sighed, not making eye contact with her.

"Where though?"

"To med."

"How comes?"

"Gabby got rushed in earlier with septicaemia."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah he called me and told me that she was taken by ambulances to Med. She had blood tests and it came back as Septicaemia. I'm sure she'll be okay but he's staying with her. Will's put her on a breathing monitor, and dialysis, and intravenous." I smiled.

"Okay, we'll discuss this later." He smiled before going back into his office. I sighed and walked off back into my office.

"She will be okay. Just needs to sleep and rest until the infection had left her blood." Will smiled as he placed a cold flannel on her head. She was asleep, just laying there peacefully the machine still beeping because her blood pressure was still low. I watched Will leave and then I sat on the edge of the bed and held her hands. I actually ended up crying. I just wanted her to be okay. I really hoped she would be alright after this. I knew septicaemia was a killer and I knew the kind of stuff that this could do to her but I hoped things would work out with this.
