~Chapter 23

I pushed him away and stood up quickly. I backed away and he stood there with a smile, still looking down. Light had to be playing some sort of sick joke on me right now. Whatever his punchline was, it's definitely not funny anymore.

I stood in front of him and shook my head repeatedly. "Light this isn't a fucking joke. You need to stop kidding around with me or I'm leaving you." I said with a dark tone. He just stood there in the same position. I sighed and turned to leave when I felt his strong hands grip my arms and turn me back around to face him. "I'm not kidding around with you so there's really no need for you to go, right May?" He pretended to be calm but I could tell there was a fire behind his brown eyes.

"I already told you... I'm Kira." Light repeated. I could feel myself shiver in fear. "You are NOT Kira! Kira is pure evil... He's a murderer. You're not Kira, you're not. You're my sweet Light. My perfect, all A+ student. You're my kind and caring boyfriend, NOT A MUDERER." I shook my head in denial. But what if Light really is Kira. This means I was right all along...that L was right all along.

"Then I suppose I'll prove it to you." Light grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the house. He didn't even close the door behind him. He drug me up the street and didn't say a single word. We soon made it to his house and entered quietly but quickly. He took me to his room and then let go of me. I stood at the door and watched as he fiddled with his desk drawer revealing a secret compartment of sorts. He turned to me with a serious expression and pointed to the cover of the black notebook in his hand.

Death Note

"Now, if I recall correctly..." Light opened the notebook and flipped to a page. He got out and pencil and started testing the lead point on it. "The name of the man who got away with killing your mother and sister in that accident was Michael Jefferson." He walked over to his laptop and typed a few things. "Is this the same man?" He ushered for me to come look. I gasped and couldn't believe it. He's had so many DUI's in the past but he hasn't been brought to justice yet?! On top of that, he works for an insurance company... With THAT kind of background!? "Yeah, that is him. Why do you ask?" I asked him as he started to write the name down in the notebook. "You'll see. Now call the number for his office." Light ordered me. I nodded slowly and took out my phone. I began to dial the company number and waited for it to pick up. I heard the click and began talking. "Um hi... I would like to file a clai-"

"Miss you'll have to call back later! Mr. Jefferson just collapsed at his desk and we can't find a pulse!" Then they hung up on me. My eyes widened and it were as if my hands went numb. I dropped the phone and just stared in fear at Light. "How did you do that?" I was nearly too afraid to ask. He stood up and placed the notebook back down. Light placed a hand on each of my shoulders and gripped. "I told you, it's because I'm Kira." He repeated to me. I gasped and it were as if I couldn't move... I couldn't talk or breath.

The man I love...is a serial killer. Light Yagami is a killer... My boyfriend is Kira. "May, don't just stand there. You're acting like you want to break up with me right now." He said with a hint of anger and worry. Right now, I truly couldn't find the words to say to him. No, it was more like I was afraid to say the wrong words to him. He could kill me and my father right now if he wanted to. I should've minded my own business from the start and I wouldn't be in this dangerous situation now.

"May, you can't leave me now. It's already too late for that."

If we should cross paths someday, I hope that the result wouldn't be pain. I hope that it would instead be happiness and understanding. However, nothing good could come of an unlikely relationship. It's as plain as day... As plain as the fox crossing the wolf's path. It's as plain, and equally as deadly.
