~Chapter 20

Two days after the test I had gotten my results back in the mail. With a wide smile I tossed the letter to my dad and rushed outside just as he began cheering. Up the sidewalk I could see Light rushing towards me. I collided into his chest and he picked me up to spin me around.

We both got into To-Oh... We're both university students now!!!

🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎(sorry about all the time skips everyone.)

I stood proudly in my new dress and shoes and looked around me to see the cherry blossom petals falling. The happy chatter of new students only added to the amazing feeling of the day. My eyes scanned the sign above me.

To-Oh University Entrance Ceremony

"Proud of you." I felt Light's hands massage each of my shoulders as he arrived behind me. "I probably couldn't have done it without all your study sessions. Thank you." I turned to him and hugged him, taking in the smell of his Cologne. He chuckled and rubbed my back gently. "No problem. Now we better get inside. I'm at the top of the class so I have to speak at a certain time. You'll see my seat up front and I had to reserve and assure you'd have a seat next to me. Just sit there and wait for me to finish." Light kissed my forehead and then my lips. I pulled away and nodded.

Once inside, I followed Light's instructions and took my seat next to his just in time to hear them announce his name. The oddity of that was they also announced the name Hideki Ryuga, a famous pop star? What was he doing here?

"What the actual hell???" I gasped under my breath as that weirdo from the exam center walked behind Light and joined him on stage. Just what the hell is going on!? Why was he here and why was he dressed like that? I couldn't wrap my head around things as Light passed the paper to him to read. The kid held the paper weirdly and read his part. Then the two made their way back to their seats. Light was between me and this, Hideki Ryuga? Anyhow, instead of addressing me, Light was talking with him instead. I couldn't quite make out what the were saying to each other in their quiet voices but I caught wind of one phrase...

I want to tell you I'm L.

What the hell? Did he mean the detective L that interacted with the broadcasts on Tv back when the Kira killings first began? The two turned their attention back to the stage and stopped talking. Light looked a little stiff while sitting next to the odd man. Hideki had his feet up in the chair just like at the exam center. His shoes were off as well. Now I'm not saying who belongs where because my skin is very tan and I'm far from being Japanese, but he sticks out like a sore thumb!

He was on my mind all the way until the ceremony was over. Light quickly grabbed my hand and led me out of the building. "What's his deal, am I right?" I joked with him but he was dead serious. "Light? Are you ok?" I tilted my head. "Hey Light." The odd man interrupted us. "I look forward to seeing you at To-Oh."

"Pleasure to meet you." Light returned the greetings. Then Hideki walked to a blackened Limo and turned back to Light. "Well I look forward to seeing you on campus." He said in a monotonous voice. "Yeah, take care." Light replied. Hideki nodded, got into the limo, and rode away. I looked up to see the stern expression on Light's face and knew something was up. "Light, you better tell me right now what's going on." I demanded with my hands on my hips. He looked at me and sighed. "Nothing is going on silly. You're always so worried about me." He uttered a short laugh. I rolled my eyes and started walking back to the train station with him.

"Well I worry because you have the worst of luck it seems. First you witness a man dying by being struck by a vehicle. Next you have to experience a stalker. Then you get through a bus hijacking. I'm just afraid that one day you won't come back alive. Now this weirdo is following you around and who knows what he wants. But there is one thing that caught my mind while we were there." I put my finger on my chin thoughtfully. "What was it?" Light asked as we made it to the station. He pulled out the money and payed for the fare. "Well, I heard him say that he was L." Suddenly Light looked as if he was frozen. He then tried to mask his behavior with a breathless laugh as we boarded the train. "Don't be ridiculous May. What would L be doing following me around anyway?" Light laughed nervously. I squinted my eyes in speculation before answering the question. "Well why not? That other guy followed you around after night classes. You told me that it was because he was trying to catch a criminal but it doesn't add up. Now the famous detective L is following you when he's supposed to be busy with the Kira case. I just wonder, why you?" I asked him with furrowed brows.

I looked up at him and his expression was terrifying and serious. It's almost like I accused him of murdering someone and he did! Of course it's been a long day so maybe he was tired and stressed out from it. Perhaps my annoying questions were getting on his nerves. I sighed and cuddled into his side. Soon enough his rigid form softened and he rubbed my back gently. When we finally made it back to our homes he stood outside and stared at my door for the longest. "Goodnight. I love you." He said with almost no feeling. Light then kissed the top of my forehead and headed back to his house.
