~Chapter 4

During the class, I could barely focus properly. I couldn't get Light's last note out if my head. What did he want to tell me? May, you're really kind of what?! I supposed I'd ask him the next time I saw him. The class time dragged on but it was sure to end soon if I didn't focus on the clock. Sure enough, the bell rang and I was on my way out. I roamed the halls for a bit before deciding to text Light. Before I could type the first letter, he had sent me a message first.

I'm already assuming you don't know where to go, so round the corner by the main office up front. Then go up the stairs and you'll find room 204 by yourself 👍

I sighed in relief and followed his directions perfectly. Soon enough, I entered the room and saw him. I smiled widely and went to take my seat but the stern looking teacher stopped me. He stroked his moustache for a second before looking in speculation. "You're the new girl from America. The staff warned me that you might get mixed up while looking for class." He then smiled kindly and ushered me outside. "That's alright though. Listen closely ok? You have Sociology with the other teacher, Ms.Socha, down the hall. Room 210 ok? Well welcome, and good luck." He gave me a thumbs up before heading back into the class. I stood there with a sad expression until the halls quickly cleared and the bell rang. I felt my phone vibrate and I knew it was Light again.

Damn, this sucks. I thought we had this class together too. Oh well, things like this happen. Hey, break is next and then Psychology so we'll see each other soon enough. Good luck with your class :D

I smiled and texted him back as I headed to the room I was meant to be in.

Thanks, I'll see you then too.

I put my phone away and knocked on the door. A woman, Ms. Socha, answered it with a smile. As I entered, she began to speak up. "Here is the new student I talked about. Her name is May Hart. Now she's a little late but that's ok. I knew she'd probably get confused with the rooms seeing as me and Mr.Higashima both teach Sociology here. Anyway, please take your seat May and welcome." The teacher smiled warmly at me and continued to speak on a lesson. The whole time she talked, I was focused on Light. I was already ready to see him again. It was rather disappointing that this happened but I can't say I'm surprised in the least bit. At least we have mornings to see each other. We also have first class, break time, and last class together. On top of that, we live close together so I'm sure we'll hang out some after school.

As soon as the bell rang, I rushed outside and headed towards 204. Light greeted me and grabbed my hand to pull me downstairs. "Sorry to be so urgent May, but I've got a plan." He led me to the main office and sat me down in a chair. "Shhhh. Just watch and listen." Light whispered in my ear. I nodded and watched as he turned to speak with the woman at the window. "Hi there, you know I'm Light Yagami. This girl is my close friend who just moved here. As you can see, she's from America so she has a hard time understanding some of our accents. She has Sociology with Ms.Socha and honestly needs to switch classes to Mr.Higashima. She's having a hard time understanding and I dont want her education to fail because of it." Light was lying to the woman. Judging by her facial structure, it was working! She typed some things in a computer and spoke to him in a broken tone of English. He then turned to me and nodded. "Alright, now we've got Sociology together." Light smiled and helped me up. I gasped and hugged him suddenly. "Thanks so much!"

Light hugged back and pulled away. "Alright, we've got a 15 minute break right now before the last class of the day so how about you follow me. There's a little café that's near the school. We can definitely make it in time to order some fresh pastry and coffee if we leave now." He explained to me. I nodded excitedly and followed him out of the office. As we walked to the café, his note invaded my thoughts once again. I decided now would be a good time to ask him what the rest of it said. But of course I was too nervous.

When we entered the café, Light ordered first. "I'll have a to-go cup of coffee, medium, and two fresh croissants, regular please. Go on May, order what you want. I'll pay for anything." He looked at me and smiled. "Huh? No, I can get it myself. You really don't have to worry about me." I chuckled and reached in my bag for my wallet. Light stopped me and shook his head. "No way, I told you I got it. Hurry May, we still have to head back for our last class." He encouraged me to order. I rolled my eyes and looked at the menu. "Fine, but you better believe I'm going to pay you back Yagami." I joked with him as my eyes scanned the menu. "Ok, I'll have a chocolate doughnut please, and a to-go cup of caramel latte. Please place extra whip cream on it too." I ordered it and Light took out his wallet. The cashier smiled and took the money before handing us a receipt. "Thank you for your service, I'll be right with you soon." Then the cashier headed to the back. I turned to a smiling Light and fidgeted with my fingers.

"Light listen... That note you wrote me today. I couldn't finish reading the last line because the teacher had taken it up. I was wondering... Well, I was wondering what the last line had said." I looked up at him nervously. His mouth was slightly open and his cheeks took on a warm tint of pink. He reached up to rub the back of his head and looked away. "Well, I just...I said"
