~Chapter 3

Both Light and I had entered class exactly as the bell rang. I tossed the banana peel in the trash and he placed the napkin in it. I realized something as we entered the class together. He looked back at me with a gasp as he noticed the same thing I did.

We have the same first class of the day together and the same last class as well. However, we did not have seats next to each other in this class. I realized that as I sat on the same row as him by the windows, but I was in the first seat and he was in the last. I turned to look back at him and a flashed me a bright smile. "OK class, let's get started with our lesson for today. I'd also like to apologize for not introducing you yesterday, but we have a student from America here. Her name is May Hart and I feel as though she's nervous just by looking at her face. We'll skip a big introduction because I want her to be comfortable. Now then, turn your books to page 345 and well begin." The chubby teacher smiled at me with a welcoming expression. As class began I felt someone tap my back.

Please don't let it be an "eager to know me" student.

I turned to them and sighed. It was an eager looking girl but she said nothing to me. She just gladly handed me a note. "From Light." She whispered kindly. I nodded and turned back to read the note.

So it seems we have the first class of the day together huh? This is definitely awesome news, am I right! Anyway, what's your next class?

I read the note and looked up to see the teacher reading to us. I smiled and replied to the note while the teacher wasn't paying attention.

Well my next class is Trigonometry. I agree that it's an awesome thing we have a class together! Light, can I ask you something.

I handed the note back to the girl and she knew to pass it back down the row. In a minute or two, he replied with another note.

Aw, that's too bad. My next class is History and Civilizations. Oh well, the rest of my classes go as followed:

-Chemistry
-Sociology
-and then Psychology and with you as the last class.

Do any of these match up with yours? And what was the question you had to ask me?

I read the note and scoped the room to watch the teacher. He currently writing some lesson plans on the board so I took the time to reply.

Hey we have Sociology together too! Let's hope it's with the same teacher. Then we'd technically have the same schedule! By the way, the question I had to ask was... well, do you consider me as your friend?

I waited a moment because I was nervous for the reply. Then I quickly passed the note back. Within minutes, Light quickly replied.

Don't be dumb May. I considered you a friend from the very first time I saw you. I don't know what it is about you, you just seem so interesting to me. I don't have many friends at all, but I'm well know because of how smart I am. I just assume people want to befriend because I'm popular but you... You just moved here and you don't know me that well. I feel like you can be my only true friend. But I also think that it could be a little more. May, you're really kind of-

Before I could finish reading it, the teacher picked up the note and crumpled it up. "I don't know how they do it in America but this is your senior year in high school and we don't pass notes. Now please pay attention." The teacher tossed the note in the trash. I put my head down and my cheeks felt like they were on fire as a few kids chuckled at me. I eventually made it through the rest of class and exited quickly. I waited outside the door for Light to meet with me. He came out and smiled at me widely. "Sorry about that! I really had no way to talk to you other than that. So let's be more careful by doing this instead." Light held out a cell phone and pressed some buttons. "Alright, here you go. Enter your number and I'll text you so you can save my number in your phone too." He explained to me. I stared at it for the longest time. "Hey May... Are you alright? What's wrong?" Light waved his hand in my face. "Huh! Oh, I'm just fine. It's that I never gave my number to a boy before." Light chuckled at me and smiled widely. "Well it's OK, I don't bite. To tell you the truth, the only girls I have in my phone right now are my mom, sister, and some girl I had to do a class project with once that I was too lazy to delete." He reassured me. I nodded confidently and typed in my number. Light took his phone back, punched some buttons and I felt my phone vibrate in my bag. I reached in to see a text from an unknown number.

Hey there :)

I smiled and saved the number as Light. "OK well... I guess I'll see you after this next class and during the break period." I bowed to him and he placed a hand on my head. "You don't have to bow so much to your peers you know. Geez, Americans really think that's all we do here?" He chuckled and turned away. We went our separate ways and prepared to meet after the class.
