~Chapter 19

"It's from me. Open it and see what's inside." Dad nodded and waited for me to take his advice. I slowly opened it and pulled out my passport. There was a fully filled out citizenship form as well." I tilted my head to the side and looked up at dad in confusion. He seemed to be glowing with happiness at the moment and I felt so safe with his warm smile that cut into my soul. "As I do always, you know eventually I'll be moving again because of my job. I've never seen you more active or well adjusted anywhere else in my life until we had gotten here. I definitely wouldn't want to take that happiness from you. I mean, in just a few days you'll be taking college entrance exams. You've been with Light for such a while and you seem so happy. I can already tell the career that you plan on going into, and you're already 20 years old now. My little MiMi is growing up so fast." He hugged me tightly and I didn't realize tears were talking from my eyes until he bent to wipe them away. "I've already lived my life May, and it's time that you started living yours. You can stay in Japan if you want to. I'll always be back to see you when I'm not working." He told me. I sniffled and wiped my face. "But dad, where will I even live?" I asked him. He chuckled and pointed around us. "This place is paid of. If you decide to live somewhere else in Japan then that'll be fine with me. I'll just sell this place and give you the funds for wherever you want to be. On top of that, I've had your bank account set up since you were a kid. You're old enough now to access it. I set the age limit to 18 but I didn't tell you about it until now because I wanted to be sure you'd be responsible with the money. Listen May, you've got to live your life now. Nothing more would make me happier than that."

I pulled him into a tight hug and sighed. "Thanks dad... Thank you so much."

"You'll be fine. This is what we spent the last 5 days preparing for." Light reassured me as I stood outside the classroom door with fear apparent on my face. "Did we not study at your place because it'd be bad luck?" I asked him. He shook his head and laughed. "I wanted to switch it up a bit so we could study in other places. Now get it together, I believe in you." He kissed my forehead as the test proctor announced "Three minutes until the exam begins!"

Light ushered me inside and we had to sit separately due to alphabet order. Before the test could begin fully, some kid got in trouble next to me for sitting oddly in his seat. He was strange and distracting! The way he sat with his shoes off... Those dark shaded under eyes with messy raven hair, and baggy clothes. Was he even ever a real student at our school?  "Student 773, focus on your paper. If you are warned one more time then you will be removed from the testing area, convicted of cheating, and will have to take the test again next year." The proctor warned me. I nodded quickly and went to work on my test.

It seemed hard enough but soon it was finally over. I left the room and sighed a breath of relief. I felt a strong pair of arms pick me up and spin me around before putting my back down. Then I'm turned around to see Light dive in for a kiss. "I'm sure you did absolutely amazing May!" He reassured me. I nodded and looked away for a moment. "Let's go to the mall and celebrate with ice cream." Light said the magic words. I perked up and took off running towards the bus stop. He covered the fare so I had to handle the ice cream (which I didn't mind at all!) On the way there, he started conversation with me. "So which part was the hardest for you to handle?" He asked about the test.

"Hmmm, you already know it was math!" I giggled happily. Ice cream was definitely well anticipated after that test. "Hey, Light... Can I ask you something?"

"Of course, what is it?" He knitted his brows together. I nodded and continued. "Did you notice that weirdo during the testing at all? I don't even think he goes to school with us or I would've noticed by now." I couldn't get his face out of my mind. "You're right, he probably didn't. What's worse is that he kept staring at me during the test. It was really hard to focus on my work." Light answered me. I stared out the window and Light noticed the mood change immediately. So he changed the subject again. "I'm gonna make you get vanilla this time." He pressed his elbow into me and laughed. I glared and thumped his nose. "No way are you making me get plain vanilla. I want mint chocolate chip or rocky road. In fact, it's my turn to pay so guess what? I'll make you get plain vanilla instead!" Light started laughing and pulled me into a hug. "Whatever you say."
