The Competition Begins!

"Girls we have to go!" Mommy says as she brushes my hair.

"I'm almost done!" My older sister, Maddie yells.

Mommy styles my hair into a high ponytail and puts a blue bow on it.

"All done, Mel. Go take your dance bag." She says and I leave.

I go into my room and take my dancebag. Today was a big day, a couple weeks ago Miss Abby told us that we were going to be on a TV Show, we had to audition and blah blah blah. We were chosen! We are going to be on the show and we start filming today.

"Melanie!" Kenzie yells.

I go downstairs and get into the car.

"Are you guys excited?" Mommy asks us as she puts me on my carseat.

"Of course!" Maddie exclaims and looks at her phone, "Chloe's already there with the Hylands."

"And Nia?" Kenzie asks.

"She is on her way." Maddie tells Kenzie.

Mommy makes sure the seatbelts are on well and then gets on the driver's seat and we start our way to the studio.

There are going to be 7 girls on the team. First is the oldest, Brooke, who is 13. Next are the twinnies, Paige, who is 10 and Chloe, who is 9. Next is Nia, who is 9. My sisters, Maddie, who is 8, and Mackenzie, who is 6, and finally me, Melanie, and I'm 4. We also have the Moms, Kelly, Brooke's and Paige's Mom. Christi, Chloe's Mom. Holly, Nia's Mom, and my Mommy, Melissa. The dance teacher, Miss Abby Miller, she sometimes yells at us but Mommy says that she does just because she wants us to be better.

"We're finally here!" Maddie says and gets off the car.

Mommy gets me off the car and we all enter the studio.

"Look at all the cameras, this is so cool!" Chloe exclaims.

"Girls come on!" We hear Miss Abby say.

"Okay... Let's all go together." Brooke says and we all hold hands.

As we enter I feel something, it was like everything was about to change, but we just didn't know it. We all sit down on the floor, on front of a chalkboard, and Miss Abby was standing beside it.

"All right girls, it's the first of rehearsal for a new competition season. Ladies, you all know why you're here, you're the cream of the crop in your age group, and I have lots of new ideas in store. I am going to do something that no other studio in the country does. Every single competition, we are doing a new routine." Miss Abby tells us and we look over to the Moms, "Nuh-uh-uh-uh, girls, don't look at your mothers. I am the coach, I am the teacher. I can make you, or I can break you."

Miss Abby says that a lot, along with 'Everyone's replaceable'. Doesn't she get tired of it? She turns the chalkboard and reveals the 'pyramid'.

Maddie

Chloe Brooke

Paige Nia Mackenzie Melanie

"Everybody wants to be front and center, I hear it all the time. Whoever is in the front and center, they can't make a mistake. They are holding that group together. So at the top right here I have Maddie because she is dedicated and because of her stellar record last year." Miss Abby says, "Maddie, are you ready to be front and center? Can you handle that pressure?"

Maddie is like, the best dancer in the group, she is kind of Miss Abby's favorite, but she tries to hide it, but fails.

"Our first competition is going to be in Phoenix, Arizona. Ladies, I chose Phoenix, Arizona because I want you to experience some of the best competition teams in the country. We are going to do two new numbers. A high-energy, really cute, adorable routine with Maddie, Chloe, Paige, Brooke and Nia and then also a trio with Maddie, Chloe and Paige." Miss Abby tells us and I look at her upset, "Unfortunately, Mackenzie and Melanie, you're both too young to compete at West Coast Dance Explosion, but you're still going to go with us anyway." And I smile, "Girls, we are going to win Phoenix, and the next competition and the next competition we're going to win, and that's all gearing up for Nationals."

Nationals it's like the goal of the season, the biggest thing ever!

"So let's get to it, we are going to begin the choreography. Moms, you can be dismissed, and girls, let's go to Nationals and bring home the winning trophy. All right?" Miss Abby asks as the Moms leave Studio A.

Group dance rehearsal was boring for me, I didn't do anything because I'm not on any routines, I didn't have any privates either today. After a couple hours we finally go back home.

•Four Days To Competition•

I was sitting on the kitchen table eating some Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal when Mommy comes in.

"Melie we have an interview for the show today, so I need you to go change." She says, "I already have an outfit for you on your bed."

I put my bowl on the sink and go to my room. I take the outfit and change into it. Mommy styles my hair like this and then we get in the car to pick Maddie and Kenzie up from school.

"Finally free!" Maddie exclaims as she sits down.

"Exaggerated." Kenzie says and I laugh.

"How did it go?" Mom asks as they put their seatbelts on.

"I have a quiz tomorrow, and I don't wanna take it." Maddie says.

"But you have to." Mom says and Maddie sighs, "We are going to the set, you're both changing there and we have to do an interview."

"For the show?" Kenzie asks.

"Yup." Mom says.

"Melanie, believe me, you don't want to get to school." Maddie tells me.

"She'll start school on September, Mads." Mom says.

"Sounds fun!" I exclaim.

"It isn't." Maddie says and takes out her phone.

We arrive to the set and get ready, then they start filming.

"These are my three daughters, Maddie, Mackenzie and Melanie. Maddie's 8, Mackenzie's 6, and Melanie's 4 and they're all dancers." Mom tells everyone.

The interview is pretty short, tomorrow some of the camera crew were going to our house for something more. We go back home and I take a shower, watch some TV and go to sleep.

•Three Days To Competition•

I waited outside for Mads and Kenz to come back home from school. That's what I get for still not going to school.

"Did you have fun?" Mommy asks when they finally arrive.

"I had the quiz today." Maddie says, "And I kinda forgot it."

"We'll talk about that later." Mommy says, "Right now let's go to your room."

We go upstairs to Maddie's room and sit on her bed. Mommy takes out a picture book and opens it.

"There's me, there's me, and there's me" Maddie says as Mommy flips the pages.

I start playing pretending to be princesses with Kenzie wearing some of Maddie's crowns.

"You're gonna be in it probably a lot more even this year, and your sisters, too." Mom says looking over to us, "Be careful that you don't hurt yourselves."

Mommy closes all of the books.

"It's weird." Kenzie says and we look at her.

"You do cartwheels..." Maddie says.

"I don't care, you always tap." Kenzie tells Maddie.

After that they go do their homework and I just go watch more TV.

•Two Days To Competition•

I was standing beside Mommy playing on her phone. She was working on the front desk.

"Oh, my hand's wet." I hear a woman say and I look up.

"Hi sweetie, what's your name?" Mommy asks a girl.

"Vivi." She answers.

"Hi, Vivi." Mommy says as the woman puts all of her stuff on the chairs.

"We want to sign up for classes and do competition." The woman says.

"Okay, sign here and you can go inside to get ready." Mom says as the woman signs some paperwork.

I found out her name was Cathy, so I decided to go to the viewing room to tell the Moms. I get there and seat on Mom's usual space.

"What's up, girlfriend?" Christi asks and all the Moms look at me.

"A new Mom came to audition for the team." I tell them.

"And what's her name, sweetie?" Kelly asks.

"Cathy." I say and look down to Studio A where Miss Abby was talking with Cathy, "There she is."

"Is she her grandma?" Christi says and all the Moms laugh.

I leave after that and just play around for the rest of the day.

•Competition Day•

We get off the bus and I zip up my jacket.

"All right, let's get this luggage moving." Miss Abby tells us.

I take my makeup case and we all go to the dressing room.

The Moms start getting the girls ready and I play with Kenzie. When they finish, we go to the audience and wait for them to go onstage.

"And next up to the stage is a junior jazz group-- 'Party, Party, Party'." The EMCEE says and we cheer as the girls go onstage.

It's girls night out and I'll wear my Barbie doll heels, can't wait to blow up the world and make Cadillac deals...

"That looks fun." I say standing up.

"Shh!" Mommy tells me and sits me on her lap, besides Kenz.

I heard the party tonight is in 3rd Ward Brooklyn, make Marilyn grin...

"Can I go there?" I ask.

"You're too young." Mommy says and I cross my arms.

Party, party, party. Let's get on the subway, pole dance on the runway, hope they didn't shut...

Soon the group finishes and we cheer as they go offstage. We go back to the dressing room and they get ready for their other group dance, it's not going to be on the show and it's called 'Rag Dolls'. After that it's time for awards!

'Rag Dolls' was called for fourth place, so now we just wait for 'Party, Party, Party'.

"A third place, with a score of 274, goes to 'Party, Party, Party'."

The Moms run off to the dressing room to get Maddie, Paige, and Chloe ready for their trio 'Pin-Up Girls', I stay in the audience with Kenz and Holly.

The trio goes in and it's really good, but then Chloe's headband falls off and she risks it everything doing an aerial. It still looked pretty good, and soon it was time for Awards again.

"Okay teams, listen up. Starting off with duo-trio." The Announcer says, "--A second place with a score of 266 goes to 'Money'. Pur mini overall high score duo-trio-- wit a score of 282 out of 300-- first place goes to Abby Lee Dance Company, 'Pin-Up Girls'."

The girls go receive their award and we cheer. One win out of two dances. This week was really fun, but I don't know how everything will be, could the show change everything?

I don't know.

We get on a plane and go back home, never realized we were that far away from home.
