New Favorite?

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" I exclaim and hug her.

"Your welcome." Abby says and we pull away, "Now, go backstage and wait, I'll go back to the dressing room to get Maddie and Kalani. I'll tell your Mom that you are onstage, so that she thinks she 'missed' your solo, but you're actually going to perform after Maddie."

I run off backstage and there I start practicing my solo. I notice the girls coming and I go far away from them, I need to follow Abby's plan. They can't see me until I go onstage to perform.

"Please welcome Maddie to the stage." The EMCEE says and Maddie goes onstage.

Once upon a time, that's how the fairytales go, and the dreams reach out on a pot of gold...

Once she finishes her solo she leaves the stage, exactly by the side I'm standing on. I run to the other side but Kenzie sees me.

"Melanie?" She asks and I look at her scared.

"Melanie?"

I turn around and see Maddie looking at me.

"I gotta go." I say and run off to the whole other side of the backstage area.

I see as Keara, an MDP dancer, leaves the stage after performing her solo.

"Next up, welcome to the stage Melanie with 'Heather'." The EMCEE says and I walk onstage.

I look towards the ALDC group, cameras are moving, and the Moms and Abby are talking. I look over to the wings, where all of the ALDC and MDP dancers look at me confused.

I get into my starting position, and do all of my facials, now even harder than before, because of my feelings towards Abby's and Mom's favouritism.

I still remember
Third of December
Me in your sweater
You said it looked better

On me, than it did you
Only if you knew
How much I liked you
But I watch your eyes, as she

Walks by
What a sight for
Sore eyes
Brighter than a
Blue sky
She's got you
Mesmerized
While I die

Why would you ever kiss me?
I'm not even half, as pretty
You gave her your sweater
It's just polyester, but you like her better
Wish I were Heather

Watch as she stands with
Her holding your hand
Put your arm 'round her shoulder
Now I'm getting colder

But how could I hate her?
She's such an angel
But then again, kinda
Wish she were dead, as she

Walks by
What a sight for
Sore eyes
Brighter than a
Blue sky
She's got you
Mesmerized
While I die

Why would you ever kiss me?
I'm not even half, as pretty
You gave her your sweater
It's just polyester, but you like her better
I wish I were Heather

Wish I were Heather
Wish I were Heather

Why would you ever kiss me?
I'm not even half as pretty
You gave her your sweater
It's just polyester, but you like her better
Wish I were

I finish my solo and leave the stage as everyone cheers and claps. I'm greeted by some confused friends, it's actually funny.

"But didn't you dance already?" Kendall asks.

"I think you danced on the wrong division." Maddie says, "This is the next division."

"Abby moved me up." I say and smile.

We wait for Kalani to perform her solo and then we all go back to the dressing room.

"You were amazing!" Gianna exclaims and hugs me.

"Why was Melanie dancing in Maddie's category?" Mom asks.

"I thought she could handle it." Abby answers and hugs me, "Why?"

"I'm just tired that you keep doing things with my daughter behind my back, first the 'Cry' solo and now this." Mom tells Abby and everyone looks at her as she crosses her arms.

"She's just doing the things you won't let her do because the spotlight is always on Maddie." Jess defends us and I look at her surprised, I thought she hated me?

"The spotlight isn't always on Maddie." Mom says.

"Really Melissa?" Kira asks, "Everything is always about her, let your other daughters have something at least."

I bit my lip.

Why was she acting like that? I thought she would like it.

I start crying and run out of the room.

"See Melissa? That's what you've done!"

"That kid is going to grow up hating you!"

I sit against the wall crying. The door opens and Mom comes outside.

"What do you want, Melissa?" I ask.

She just kneels down on front of me and hugs me.

"I'm so sorry, I never thought you felt that way about everything."

"I did. Ever since I was 4."

"Why did you never tell me?"

"Because if I did, you would've reacted the way you did in there right now!"

I hear her crying.

"I'm such a bad mother!"

"You're not! You just make mistakes, but everyone does!"

"No! I've made you both live feeling so bad about yourselves!"

After that really emotional scene, we went back to the dressing room to get ready for the group dance.

•Awards•

"We're gonna start with our highest-scoring solo. Fifth overall, act number 77, 'Resurgence'." The Announcer says and Kwara goes receive her award.

They call up fourth place and Maddie, Kalani, and I look at each other.

"Third overall, act number 28, 'Innocent'."

Kalani goes receive her award and Maddie and I hold hands.

"Second overall, act number 29, 'Dreams Come True'."

Maddie goes receive her award.

"You're gonna beat her." Kenzie whispers.

"Our highest-scoring here in Riverside, California, also with a perfect score." The Announcer says and everything goes silent, "Is act number 31, 'Heather'!"

I stand up as everyone cheers and go receive my award.

I beat Maddie again! This time with a perfect score!

I stand beside Maddie and she hugs me. Kalani does too. We bow and go sit back down.

"Last but not least, we have our highest-scoring small group category in the advanced division. Third overall, act number 79, 'Passing Through Time'."

MDP was third! Whoa.

"And our first overall in the junior small group category, act number 76, 'The Rose Garden'."

We all stand up and receive the award.

"And your studio?"

"Abby Lee Dance Company!"

We go back to the dressing room and we're greeted by the Moms and Abby.

"I promise to never overlook you again, Melie!" Mom says hugging me.

"I-- need air!" I say.

"Sorry." Mom says and we pull away.

"Congratulations!" Abby exclaims, "A clean sweep! We also got a perfect score!"

Everyone claps.

Soon Abby leaves and we take all of our stuff. We leave and we all get on our car.

"Let's just go around town, it's pretty late, but we gotta celebrate!" Maddie says as we put our seatbelts on.

"Yes!" Kenzie exclaims.

So we just drove around town.

I really liked what Mom said, she sounded genuinely sorry. I'm happy to have cleared up any confusion, between all of us. I got a perfect score, second time on the show, and it's amazing, can't wait for what will happen, but this is absolutely amazing!
