2013 ALDC Showcase: ALDC Goes Hollywood

Mackenzie

Maddie Melanie Chloe Asia

Nia Kendall Brooke Paige

"This week, we are not traveling anywhere. You will be performing in the annual dance concert. Now this is a rough week for all involved. You're gonna have quick changes. You're gonna have numbers back-to-back." Miss Abby announces, "Everybody will be doing a solo, however, most of you will be doing old solos. Paige, you have a new solo, and Melanie, you also will have a new solo. You will be doing a jazz gymnastics routine, so I need you totally focused on the task at hand. Melanie, I want you to work more on your jazz, so you will have a jazz routine called 'Hate Me', and ask those mothers over there, why do they hate your sisters and you so much."

"Abby, we don't have a problem with any of the kids." Christi argues, "When will you understand?"

"It doesn't look like that." Miss Abby tells her.

After pyramid and the group dance rehearsal, we were all sent out to start working. First stop for me, the Dancer's Den.

"Aaaand we're off!" I exclaim as I sit down, "This is going to be a long week."

"Is it always this stressful?" Asia asks and Kenzie nods.

"Every single year." Kenzie assures her.

I go to studio C and start with different group dance rehearsals, it was a long day.

Three Days To Recital

"This is my favorite costume ever!" Emma exclaims as we look at ourselves on the mirror.

"You say that every single time." I tell her, "You gotta decide."

Quinn walks over to us with her phone. We smile as she takes a picture and walks away.

"We never see those photos again." Emma says and we both laugh.

"Yeah, wonder what happened to the 2009 ones." I agree.

"Melanie, the show!"

"I'm on a costume!" I yell.

"We don't have time!"

"Who's even talking?!" I yell again.

"Gianna!"

"RIP you." Emma chuckles.

I run to the bathroom and change into my dance clothes. I rush to studio A, where everyone was waiting for me. The group dance rehearsal was pretty fast, but right after that, the solo rehearsals were up, and I was going to perform two, 'Hate Me' and 'Breathin'.

"At the end, be sassy, be--be like 'bye losers'." Miss Abby tells me as I do the ending of my new solo, that is strutting off stage, "We finished with your two solos for today, so you're free for the rest of the night."

I go back to the Dancer's Den and Emma walks in.

"You're still alive." She comments and I chuckle, "I'm tired, I had to rehearse that jazz duet with Mary for like ten times."

"Practice makes perfect." I tell her, "Or drives you crazy."

Two Days To Recital

Saying how I'm your number one
But I know you're lying
'Cause your lips are moving
Baby, don't you know I'm done

We all walk off stage. Today was the tech rehearsal, busy day, stressful day, and painful day.

I run back to the dressing room and change into the on-show group dance costume. I go backstage and met up with the girls. We perform, stuff stuff. I go to the small break room.

"Kill it!"

My eyes wide as I look over to Liam, Peter, and Tim, who were playing on the Wii some 'Wii Sports Resort', on the 'Swordplay Showdown' minigame.

"Who's playing?" I ask as I walk over to them.

"Tim." Liam answers, "It was originally Peter, but he lost every single time."

"I didn't lose every single time." Peter defends himself, "I just haven't played on a long time."

"We played last night." Tim says and Peter shushes him, causing me to laugh, "Wanna play?"

"I don't really like that one." I tell him, "I prefer cycling."

"That one's also pretty good." Liam tells me.

Peter hands me a wiimote and I turn it on.

"What do we play?" Tim asks as the game goes back to the game screen.

"Table tennis." Liam tells him, "But in the return challenge, I wanna see who can beat my high score."

Tim enters the return challenge on the table tennis section, only revealing a mii named London with the highest score.

"That doesn't look very Liam to me." I say and the other two boys laugh.

"Okay, okay, London's way better in this." Liam admits, "But I'm second--"

"You're fifth." Peter interrupts him, pointing to the screen.

Tim starts playing and we all watch him. His score was 32. Next up was me. I start playing as the boys try to distract me. I end up with a score of 85, London's 87.

"That was an almost." I tell them as Peter starts playing.

"Melanie, we're leaving." Maddie opens the door.

"Already?" I ask and she nods, "How's tech rehearsal over so soon?"

"The Hylands stormed out." Maddie answers, "Again."

I hand Liam the remote and follow Maddie.

One Day To Recital

At the photoshoot, I was portraying a musician. Chloe a rebel, Maddie the teacher's pet, Asia the popular girl, Kendall a mean girl, Kenzie a nerd, and Nia an athlete. I loved my outfit, and it was a black top, a flannel shirt tied around my waist, black ripped jeans and black boots. My hair was on a half up and half down bun and my makeup has an winged eyeliner. I also had to carry a guitar case on my back.

I was the last one, and my pictures were half me with the guitar case, and half of me 'playing' the guitar. My favorite photo was definitely where I was lying against the wall, watching the guitar as I pretended to play. You know, I don't really care to be on the cover, I just wanted to be in the photoshoot.

Day Of The Recital

A couple hours in, I was waiting to go on stage with the mini team. This group dance was a little harder than usual because we have to tap and lip-sync, at least Emma, Klara, and I.

"Now we have a mini tap group, 'Lips Are Movin'." Miss Abby says and we all go on stage.

I spot the red microphone on the stage and walk over to it.

If your lips are moving, if your lips are moving
If your lips are moving, then you're lyin', lyin', lyin', babe
If your lips are moving, if your lips are moving
If your lips are moving then you're lyin', lyin', lyin', babe

Boy, look at me in my face
Tell me that you're not just about this bass
You really think I could be replaced?
Nah... I come from outer space
And I'm a classy girl
I'm a hold it up
You full of something but it ain't love
And what we got is straight overdue
Go find somebody new

You can buy me diamond earrings
And deny-ny-ny, ny-ny-ny, deny-ny
But I smell her on your collar so goodbye-bye-bye
Bye-bye-bye

I know you're lying
'Cause your lips are moving
Tell me do you think I'm dumb?
I might be young
But I ain't stupid
Talking round in circles with your tongue
I gave you bass, you gave me sweet talk
Saying how I'm your number one
But I know you're lying
'Cause your lips are moving
Baby, don't ya know I'm done

If your lips are moving, if your lips are moving
If your lips are moving, then you're lyin', lyin', lyin', babe
If your lips are moving, if your lips are moving
If your lips are moving, then you're lyin', lyin', lyin', babe

Hey, baby, don't you bring them tears
'Cause it's too late, too late, babe, oh
You only love me when you're here
You're so two-faced, two-faced, babe, oh

You can buy me diamond earrings
And deny-ny-ny, ny-ny-ny, deny-ny
But I smell her on your collar so goodbye-bye-bye
Bye-bye-bye

I know you're lying
'Cause your lips are moving
Tell me do you think I'm dumb?
I might be young, but I ain't stupid
Talking round in circles with your tongue
I gave you bass, you gave me sweet talk
Saying how I'm your number one
But I know you're lying
'Cause your lips are moving
Baby, don't ya know I'm done

Come on, say!

If your lips are moving, if your lips are moving
If your lips are moving, then you're lyin', lyin', lyin', babe
If your lips are moving (Alright now)
If your lips are moving (I wanna hear ya'll singing with me)
If your lips are moving
Then you're lyin', lyin', lyin', babe (Here we go!)

I know you're lying
'Cause your lips are moving
Tell me do you think I'm dumb?
I might be young, but I ain't stupid
Talking round in circles with your tongue
I gave you bass, you gave me sweet talk
Saying how I'm your number one
But I know you're lying
'Cause your lips are moving
Baby, don't you know I'm done

I go to the dressing room and change into the 'Hate Me' solo costume.

I go backstage, and right after that, on stage.

Hate me, hate me, still tryna replace me
Chase me, chase me, tell me how you hate me
Erase me, 'rase me, wish you never dated me
Lies, tell me lies, baby, tell me how you hate me

I bet you don't kiss her with your eyes closed
I bet you're still walking on a tightrope
Miss me so much, you've been goin' psycho
You ain't gotta say it, baby, I know (I know, I know, I know)

It's a thin line between all this love and hate
And if you switch sides, you're gon' have to claim your place
So baby, this time you're gon' have to seal your fate
Yeah baby, this time you're gon' have to seal your fate

And tell me how you hate me, hate me, still tryna replace me
Chase me, chase me, tell me how you hate me
Erase me, 'rase me, wish you never dated me
Lies, tell me lies, baby, tell me how you hate me
Hate me, hate me, still tryna replace me
Chase me, chase me, tell me how you hate me
Erase me, 'rase me, wish you never dated me
Lies, tell me lies, baby, tell me how you hate me

Hate me, hate me, tell me how you hate me
Tell me how I'm trash and you could easily replace me
Tell me that I'm strung out, wasted on the daily
Prolly 'cause there's no one around me numbin' all my pain
Prolly 'cause there's no umbrella to shield me from all the rain
Probably because you're the one playin' the mind games
You hate me because I don't let you play no mind games
They give me migraines and damage my brain
Date me, break me, easily replace me
Hopefully you see it clear, hopefully it's HD
Bet you wonder why the last few months I've been spacey
In your head, I sing

And tell me how you hate me, hate me, still tryna replace me
Chase me, chase me, tell me how you hate me
Erase me, 'rase me, wish you never dated me
Lies, tell me lies, baby, tell me how you hate me
Hate me, hate me, still tryna replace me
Chase me, chase me, tell me how you hate me
Erase me, 'rase me, wish you never dated me
Lies, tell me lies, baby, tell me how you hate me

It's a thin line between all this love and hate (okay)
And if you switch sides, you're gon' have to claim your place (okay)
So baby, this time you're gon' have to seal your fate (okay)
Yeah baby, this time you're gon' have to seal your fate

And tell me how you hate me, hate me, still tryna replace me
Chase me, chase me, tell me how you hate me
Erase me, 'rase me, wish you never dated me
Lies, tell me lies, baby, tell me how you hate me
Tell me how you hate me, hate me, still tryna replace me
Chase me, chase me, tell me how you hate me
Erase me, 'rase me, wish you never dated me
Lies, tell me lies, baby, tell me how you hate me

tell me how you hate me
(Tell me how you hate me)
Lies, tell me lies, baby, tell me how you hate me

Everyone cheers as I walk off stage and change into the group dance costume.

When you've lost your taste
And you've got a sweet tooth
And your largest craves
Are a syrupy mousse
And your bare heart is à la carte
I've got a menu for you

When you're feeling green
And you're feeling the blues
And there's no sweet tea
Just some crab-apple juice
We're a work of art
That's not so tart
We've got a dessert just for you

The rest of the recital was obviously stressful, but a good day.

All of us minis ended up playing Mario Kart Wii, and guess who won?

Not me.
