Tap Versus Hip Hop

Miss Abby decided that it was better to go to Hollywood than to stay in Pittsburgh, okay really she was filming season 2 of AUDC and Dance Moms was relocated to the CADC meanwhile, meaning that Cathy got her time of glory, but let's go back to normal, I've been practicing harder ever since I beat Kenzie and Asia and got a perfect 300. Like, I'm not going to slack off after I had a great time in the competition. We just arrived to pyramid and Miss Abby starts talking.

"Let's go through pyramid, we can all remember back then. Brooke. Brooke, the faculty here didn't see too much of you while I was away."

"I was recording a CD, so I was gone all week too." Brooke tells Miss Abby.

"Paige. Do you feel that you've improved?"

"Yeah, I think my turns have been getting better, because we've had normal classes, so that I've been able to work on them more." Paige tells her.

"And next we have Kendall. Kendall, do you think you have been improving?"

"Yes. I have a private with James every week, and he works on my turns, and he says that they're getting much better." Kendall says.

"Okay, Nia. What about you?"

"I've been getting four extra classes every single week." Nia says.

"I think that's great. Good for you, nice to hear that. Moving up, we have Mackenzie. Mackenzie, you didn't win. You let both Asia and Melanie beat you. It's this. It's that confidence. You let your face go blank. Are you cute? Yes. But you're getting a little too old for cute, let that to your sister."

I look at Miss Abby confused.

"Chloe. You had a great performance. You went out onstage, you looked beautiful, your Mom was beaming, they announced you as the winner. The scores were not right, you did not win; you were second. Next we have Asia. Now Asia's not here. Asia will be back in pyramid next week. Next is Maddie. You gave a flawless performance, and when they announced Chloe as the winner, you didn't even flinch. You were thrilled for your classmate. On top of the pyramid we have Melanie. You didn't beat one, but both Mackenzie and Asia, beat a lot of dancers older than you and even got a pefect score and standing ovation. This week, you will be traveling to Syracuse, New York. The competition is In10sity Dance."

Melanie

Maddie   Asia   Chloe   Mackenzie

Nia   Kendall   Paige   Brooke

This week, I don't have anything, I'm not in the group dance, I don't have a solo, just, nothing. At least I thought, it turns out I actually have a duet, but it isn't on the show, it's a real competition with the ALDC Mini Team. I have a jazz duet with Emma, we've been duet partners for a long time now, the duet's called 'Friends Do'.

I enter studio B where Emma and the teacher are already waiting for me and start rehearsing.

Competition Day

At Friday, I arrive to the studio at 8 in the morning, my sisters were at school, there's no Dance Moms shooting and I don't know where Miss Abby is, at least she's not going to the competition, that would be a chaos. We get on the bus and leave. The competition was actually on Pittsburgh too so it isn't really far. Once we arrive we go to the dressing room and Emma and I change into our duet costumes and go backstage to wait.

"What entry was the duet?" Emma asks.

"I think like 15." I tell her, "Or maybe 16."

It turned out we were entry number 25.

"And now is entry number 25, receive Emma and Melanie with 'Friends Do'." The announcer says and we go on stage.

We walk to our own beat
High tops on the concrete
Under diamond skies
A pair of butterflies
Yeah we go back a long time
Like shadows and sunshine
But with each perfect day
Comes a chance of rain

So if you loose your way and think you're falling fast
Don't have to worry cause I got your back yeah

It's true, that's just what friends do
Got me, and I got you too
Together we're complete
You can always count on me
Sometimes life can bring you down
But no matter what, I'll be around
You know I'm here for you
That's just what friends do

When the wind starts blowing
Never know where you're going
We'll hang on to the clouds
No we're not looking down
So when you're feeling broken
It's life's collides coping
Just turn it once around
And things look better now

So if you loose your way and think you're falling fast
Don't have to worry cause I got your back yeah

It's true, that's just what friends do
Got me, and I got you too
Together we're complete
You can always count on me
Sometimes life can bring you down
But no matter what, I'll be around
You know I'm here for you
That's just what friends do

I'm your friend, and you're mine
We make you work like, overtime
We're a pair two of a kind
We're gonna be friends for life
[x2]

So if you loose your way and think you're falling fast
Don't have to worry cause I got your back yeah

It's true, that's just what friends do
Got me, and I got you too
Together we're complete
you can always count on me
Sometimes life can bring you down
But no matter what, I'll be around
You know I'm here for you
That's just what friends do

It's true, that's just what friends do
Got me, and I got you too
Together we're complete
you can always count on me
Sometimes life can bring you down
But no matter what, I'll be around
You know I'm here for you
That's just what friends do
What friends do, yeah
That's just what friends do

"And now we're announcing our top five mini duet-trio."

So Emma and I had the duet, Mia, Julie and Klara had a trio, and Zoe and Becky had another duet. So we're all against each other.

"On third place is entry number 20,'Last Friday Night'."

That was the trio of who I said already Julie, Klara and Mia, we cheer and Mia stands up to go receive the award.

"On second place is entry number 25, 'Friends Do'."

Emma and I smile as I stand up to receive the award, now Zoe and Becky are the only ones left.

"And on first place, our top overall mini duet-trio of the day is entry number 17, 'Imagine'."

That isn't their number, they were entry number 24, so they didn't place.  We all go back to the dressing room when the awards are over and just get ready to leave, The ALDC didn't win today, so I hope tomorrow for at least the show someone wins.

The day after the big disappointment, we get to the competition, cameras are rolling and the girls are preparing for their own stuff, that I have no idea of what it is.

Sunshine, I feel the energy, I need sunshine falling down on me, Sunshine

Keep it pumping, keep it pumping, keep it pumping in there

I woke up on the wrong side of bed, and I spilled coffee on your white T, I burnt your bacon, you pancakes and my hand

Maddie's apron started falling, Chloe had a hip hop solo, sadly Miss Abby still doesn't understand that her studio, isn't the best place to learn hip hop, and actually didn't think so much about Kenzie's solo at all. Now, the girls are getting ready for the group dance and I'm still on the audience waiting for them to go on stage.

I can't spell, eating at my heart, choking on the darkness, outside myself

Now what I've been waiting, awards and leaving, more awards, but if we leave, it means food, and I'm really hungry.

"And your highest-scoring elite mini-soloist, with a  score of 280 points, is Miss Mackenzie with act number 11 'California Adventure'."

Yay! Look Abby! Kenzie won! Now wait 'til Asia gets back!

Chloe placed fourth, Maddie placed second and the group placed first, same as Kenzie! I leave with the Moms and some of the camera crew to the dressing room, and I have to hear it all.

"Thank God." Jill says sitting down, "The girls won."

"Thank God that we won the group dance." Mommy adds.

"Oh, I don't think Abby cares that the girls won." Christi comments, "The only thing she cares about is Maddie's solo."

"I feel kind of bad that the girls probably won't get to enjoy their win." Holly says.

"So all your kissing a** and doing whatever has paid off." Kelly tells Mommy, "And aren't you glad that you went to LA to make sure that she will protect you?"

"But you don't see when you do things against the group that it hurts our kids." Christi says.

"My kids come first to me, and they will always come first to me." Mommy tells them.

See why I enjoyed yesterday's competition without any of them?

Needless to say, Christi and Mommy did their typical scene and the four of us left.
