Request: "I heard Thanksgiving requests? How about Genji, Hanzo, McCree, and Lucio having thanksgiving dinner with a S/O who's never celebrated thanksgiving in his life? For three reasons. I love your writing, I had to look up what thanksgiving was and how to celebrate because my best friend/roommate wanted to do thanksgiving dinner with me (His family is in a different country. Also, sports? On a holiday where you eat? That doesn't sound like a very good idea), and I'm very gay. Thank you!"
A/N: None of these characters celebrate Thanksgiving frequently and McCree's probably the one who knows the most about it, but for request's sake, let's go for it. <D
McCree
He usually celebrates it in a bar or by carrying on with life as he pleases, considering he doesn't really have people to celebrate with
However, when you come along later in life and mention that you don't know much about the holiday, he prepares to go all out
Thanksgiving specials and the Thanksgiving parade on TV all day (he's not much of a sports fan so unless you're interested in that, he'd much rather watch the Charlie Brown or F.R.I.E.N.D.S. specials as they come on)
Cooks the turkey and prepares all the fixings
Cranberry
Stuffing
Pumpkin pie
Corn
Gravy
A l l o f i t
If you have an allergy or dislike for something in the dinner guidelines, he's made sure to create an alternative
If you try to help he urges you to hang out; it's your first Thanksgiving (and his in a long while) so he wants you to enjoy it
He dishes out plates with a little bit of everything and joins you in the living room
He's not religious but if you are, he'll take part in your prayers
The I'm Thankful game
His is that he's thankful (and honored) to treat you to your first Thanksgiving
The meal is filled with idle chatter about Thanksgiving, whatever special is on TV, or whatever's really on your mind
After food is dessert (freshly store-bought; sweets are his bane when it comes to cooking), then snuggling on the couch with full bellies and happy hearts
Lucio
Briefly forgets Thanksgiving isn't a holiday in every culture
He tends to celebrate it doing volunteer work and invites you to join him
If you're not really comfortable with that, though, he completely understands
He'll invite you to help him cook; he's a master with Thanksgiving and tends to put his own twist on the food
Small turkey for two
He'd be happy to have you help
Plus it's a great way to hang out together
He loves to watch the Thanksgiving parade, though, so he'll often poke his head into the living to check up on it
Sets and decorates the table; he prefers eating there rather than in front of the TV
The Wishbone Game
When you get the longer piece, he pesters you about your wish, even though he knows you can't tell him or it won't come true
The I'm Thankful Game
He's thankful to have spent this time with you
The meal is filled with bubbly conversation
He answers questions you have about Thanksgiving and tells stories about his past Thanksgivings
Pumpkin pie for dessert with l o t s of whipped cream
Then it's a Thanksgiving movie marathon until Thanksgiving is officially over at midnight
The next morning he's up before you, taking down Thanksgiving decorations and putting up Christmas ones
Genji Shimada
He's celebrated Thanksgiving a few times, with friends and during his stay with Zenyatta, so he knows a decent deal about it
Though he celebrates it more for the giving thanks aspect rather than the historical lineage of the holiday
Aside from the general information, he actually doesn't know much about the holiday's history, so there's a bit of learning the two of you can do together
Everything is store-bought and most is pre-made
He was never one for cooking but what needs to be done he tries his best with
May ask you for assistance
Excessive sweets for dessert; the man has a major sweet tooth
He's so worried about food that he forgets about the parade and turns it on just as it's ending
At least the specials are still on though
Dinner is eaten at the table with the TV's soft noise in the background
He does take part in the I'm Thankful game
He has a list of things to be thankful for
Dinner is great for a first Thanksgiving, especially for most of it being store-bought
Then it's time to transfer all the sweets to the living room coffee table and snack away to soft conversation and Thanksgiving specials
Hanzo Shimada
Doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving himself, so it's a learning experience for both of you
He'll try to cook but it may not go well
He's never roasted a turkey, help him
He's great at cooking simple things but an entire Thanksgiving meal in a certain amount of time is not that
At least the specials are on TV though
Smoke alarms
Pretty badly burnt food
The house will smell like turkey for days
He ends up ordering takeout and you guys just chill on the couch eating Chinese
He did buy a store-bought pie, though, so at least dessert is present
While preparing the pie a whipped cream fight may or may not ensue
When everything is said and done and you're relaxing on the couch snuggled into his chest, he quietly mutters that he's thankful for you
Thanksgiving 2.0 will be tried next year
He's determined
