He's damn nervous when you ask him to do so

He's totally gonna do it and be on his best goddamn behavior

Maybe a little too good of behavior

At first he's acting like a completely different person, which makes you upset and your parents suspicious (because obviously you've talked about him to them before and ???? he doesn't seem like the guy you talked about at all???)

Not to mention that your dad is overprotective, which makes him more nervous, which in turn makes him act even weirder

You have to take him aside and give him a talk to calm down and just be himself

He manages to listen

The night goes smoother after that and your parents realize what a sweet gentleman he really is

He flat-out just said no when you mentioned meeting your parents for the first time

Not because he didn't want to but because he didn't want to make you look bad in front of your family

You're able to convince him, though, and the evening actually ends up going really well

He treats your mother like a lady and doesn't stand down from your father's intimidation (hell, he's seen worse), which leaves good impressions on both of them

Your parents decide to do a game night

It just ends up being you and your mother watching from the sidelines while your competitive dad and your equally competitive boyfriend duke it out

They're playing checkers what the fuck

Your family invites him to the holidays as you guys are heading out the door though

Your mother calls you once you get home and asks when you're gonna put a ring on that
