Book 2 ~ Chapter 9

✨•~~~~~~~~•✨
MAKOs POV

Asami took us right in front of her warehouse. We got off the boat and went inside. Asami turned on the warehouse lights revealing a huge empty room. All the mechatanks were gone.

"Whoever paid the triple threats must've taken all the mechatanks," I said.

"I'll go around the building for a quick perimeter check," Lei said, as she ran out the warehouse.

I looked at Asami, who looked completely depressed at the sight.

"I'm ruined, my company is over," Asami muttered.

"We should check all your warehouses, they probably didn't have time to get them all," I said, as I looked around the empty room.

"You don't understand, everything I had was in here," Asami said softly.

"We need to look around for evidence, find a lead," I said, as I rubbed my chin.

"Mako, it's pointless," Asami said, as she looked down.

"I can figure this out," I said, as I turned to her.

"Just stop, its over. I give up," Asami said, as she closed her eyes.

"Well, I'm not giving up on you," I said truthfully.

She looked up at me with tears in her eyes. Suddenly, she quickly leaned in and kissed me. I widened my eyes and stood still at what was happening. After a few moments, I heard someone cough awkwardly, and Asami pulled away.

"I'm sorry, Am I interrupting something?" Lei asked awkwardly, as she stood behind us.

"N-no," I stuttered.

Lei raised an eyebrow at me, and I raised both of mine, telling her that I'll tell her what happened later. She rolled her eyes in response.

"Look, we're gonna find out who did this, and I know just who to ask," I said, as I turned to Asami. Asami nodded in response.

LEIs POV

Mako took me to an abandoned alley, and told me to wait for a few minutes. I leaned against the wall, waiting impatiently for Mako to come back. Suddenly, Mako came back with a very familiar face, as he dragged him with his collar. I stood up as I saw the sight. Mako pushed his face against the wall, while he had a fire dagger right to his throat.

"Who payed you to distract us?" Mako asked Ping.

"I don't know! I never saw his face!" Ping replied.

"You better tell us, or I'm gonna make you no-toed Ping!" Mako threatened. I was slightly impressed by Mako right now.

"I swear! I don't know! One day, this bloke came in and talked to the boss, but I haven't seen him since! Cmon, Mako, I would never lie to you with my lucky toes on the line!" Ping pleaded.

Mako still had his face up against the wall. I stood behind him wondering what he was going to do next. Mako suddenly let go of Ping.

"Get out of here," Mako said, then Ping ran away from the scene.

"Well, whats plan B?" I asked, as I looked at him.

"Varrick was the other person who knew about this operation, we should ask him some questions," Mako said.

Mako and I headed towards Varrick's studio, where they were filming Bolin. I haven't seen Bolin for a while, since I was so busy with the investigation. When we entered the studio, it was set up with cameras, lights, props, and some actors getting their make up done. In front of the set, was Bolin sitting on a chair with a ridiculous costume and eating popcorn.

"Bolin, have you seen Varrick around?," Mako asked, as he stopped beside Bolin, but he ignored Mako.

"Bolin," Mako called again, he was ignored again. I raised my eyebrow at the two. Mako sighed.

"Nuktuk!" Mako called, Bolin smiled and looked at us.

"Oh, Mako, Lei, didn't notice you there," Bolin said, he was acting very odd.

"Where's Varrick?" Mako asked impatiently.

"Can't say I've seen him around, I hardly notice because I'm so busy filming my big scene. There's gonna be these crazy pyrotechnics, which is a movie term for explosions," Bolin said boastfully.

"We need Nuktuk on set for the explosion scene!" one of the directors shouted.

"Or we just say explosion scene most of the time," Bolin said embarrassingly, before standing up and walking to the set.

I turned my attention to Mako.

"Why is he acting so weird and did you guys fight or something?" I asked curiously.

"Bolin and I may have gotten into a disagreement yesterday," Mako sighed.

"Whatever it is, he's your brother, he won't be like this forever," I said, as Mako looked at me.

"I just hope we can find Varrick," Mako said, before a bell suddenly rang.

The bell rang which meant that they were about to start shooting the scene. Mako and I stood beside each other as we stood behind the scenes. The set lights were all pointed towards the set.

"Set is ready! Cameras are rolling! Action!" The director shouted.

Bolin was at the end of the set, standing waiting a few moments. I crossed my arms in annoyance, and wondered when this would be done. Mako and I needed to ask more questions to Varrick.

"Ginger, stay down! I'm coming for you!" Bolin shouted, as he started running down the long set.

After a few moments, Bolin was still running but explosions suddenly started going off as they trailed behind him. I narrowed my eyes at the explosions as they went off one by one. I looked at Mako, and I could tell he was thinking the same thing.

"Mako, you're thinking what I'm thinking right," I said, as another explosions went off.

"How are those explosions going off right on command?" Mako answered, as he looked at me with crossed arms.

"We should ask the pyrotechnic," I said, before the bell rang again.

The second bell probably meant that the shooting was over. Mako and I looked around for the pyrotechnic. After a few moments, I spotted a man sitting on a bench, with his head down as he was fixing what looks like fireworks. I tapped Mako's shoulder and he looked at me. I pointed at the pyrotechnic and he immediately started walking over there.

"Excuse me, how did you get those explosions to go off like that?" Mako asked, the man looked up at us.

"Neat right? It's Varrick Industries exclusive, here check it out," the man explained, as he handed Mako something.

"It's a remote detonator," the man said, as we examined it.

I widened my eyes, it looked like the exact remote detonator from the rally. I looked at Mako, who had wide eyes as well.

"Varrick," we said in unison with the realization that hit us.

Mako and I immediately went over to Future Industries, where Asami was working in her office. We were walking side by side in the hall way of the building towards Asami's office.

"I knew that man was odd the first time I met him," I said, Mako nodded as we reached Asami's office door.

"Asami, I think we know who hired the triple thre—," Mako got cut off, as he opened the door.

I stepped inside to see Asami signing papers at her desk with another person on an office chair in front of her. The chair spun to reveal Varrick, interlocking his own fingers and a smirk plastered onto his face.

"Hello, Mako, Hello, Lei," Varrick greeted, I narrowed my eyes at him.

"What are you doing here?" I spat.

"He just saved my company by purchasing a controlling interest," Asami said brightly, as she stood up holding the papers and walked in front of her desk.

"I like to think I'm looking out for the little guy," Varrick said as he stood up beside Asami.

"Especially if this little guy is gonna help the big guy," Varrick added, as he wrapped an arm around Asami's shoulder.

"What were you saying, Mako? You guys know who hired the triple threats?" Asami asked.

"Yeah, and I'm getting real close on proving it," Mako said, as we both narrowed our eyes at Varrick.

"We'll fill you in later," Mako added, before exiting the room.

I followed behind Mako. I looked back and saw Varrick smirking at me, which I returned with a glare. I left the room, knowing that I would get justice and make sure that this mystery is solved soon.
