Book 2 ~ Chapter 4

✨•~~~~~~~~•✨
LEIs POV

It was the next day, I was walking to Mako and Bolin's apartment while carrying a book to help with the investigation. I got it from one of the officers in the police station this morning before I went here. I stopped walking when I reached a red building. Mako told me he lived on the third floor, so I made my way inside. I went up the stairs, and approached the door at the end of the hall. I was about to knock, but it was suddenly opened by Korra. I was shocked to see her so suddenly, but then again, Mako's her boyfriend.

"Korra?" I said in surprise, but she stomped away in anger.

"You're the one who's like this!" Mako shouted, as I stepped in.

Mako was sitting on the couch, and I glanced at Korra, but she had already gone.

"Did I come at a bad time?" I asked, as I closed the door.

"No, Korra's just giving me a headache right now," Mako said, as he crossed his arms.

"Well, we can work on the investigation later then," I said, as I was about to walk to the door.

"No, It's alright, I just need a little break before we start," Mako said, as he got up from his couch.

Mako went to his small kitchen, while I took a seat on his yellow couch. I took off the swords from my back and placed it on the table beside the couch. It was a nice apartment, and I was glad that Mako and Bolin finally had a place of their own. Mako came back with two glasses of dragonfruit juice. He sat down on the couch right next to me.

"What did you and Korra fight about?" I asked, Mako sighed.

"She was complaining about President Raiko mot giving her help against the North, and I tried to talk to her about it, but then she got mad that I was taking their side. Seriously, why does their have to be sides," Mako explained, with an annoyed tone.

"Well, for one, Korra shouldn't be taking a side and you're right about that," I said, as I took a sip of the juice.

"What should I do, Lei? I don't know what to say to her anymore," Mako sighed, as I put down my glass on the coffee table.

"What you've been telling her so far is alright Mako, it's Korra's choice if she wants to take in what you're saying," I said, Mako sighed.

"Enough about Korra and I, how was the trip back to the Fire Nation?" Mako asked, as I fixed myself into a more comfortable position on the couch.

"Well, it was a relaxing week, until I had to spend my last day there going around every inch of the Fire Nation," I said, Mako raised his eyebrows.

"That must've been tiring," Mako commented.

"It was, but that day wasn't all boring since, I got to chase a few criminals," I said, Mako chuckled.

"What's the book for?" Mako asked, pointing at the book on my lap.

"Oh, I thought this would help with the investigation," I said, as I handed it over to Mako.

"Its a list of all the registered criminals, their names and which gang they're in. We could maybe find the guy we so last night here," I added, as he went through the pages.

"Great job, Lei," Mako complimented.

He adjusted his position and put the book in between us, so we could scan the book together. We looked through the pages for a while, and we still couldn't find the guy. The door suddenly opened revealing Bolin.

"Hey, Bolin, what have you been up to," I asked, as I gave the book to Mako who was scrolling through the pages.

"Oh, man, Varrick is such an amazing guy," Bolin said colorfully, I raised my eyebrow.

"Varrick? That guy from the Northern water tribe?" I said, Bolin nodded.

"He's gonna help Asami sell her mechatanks in the South, and he came up with this great idea for Korra to get General Iroh to fight Unalaq without President Raiko ever knowing," Bolin said quickly.

"What?!" Mako and I exclaimed.

"That's a terrible idea," Mako said, as he looked up from the book.

"And he's gonna put me in the movers, as this hero, Nuktuk, he's a man of action and—," Bolin got cut off.

"Look, we're trying to do something important here," Mako said, as he gestured to the book.

"Oh, sorry, what is it," Bolin asked, as he took a seat next to Mako.

"Something doesn't make sense about this bombing, I just don't buy that the Northern Water tribe was behind this," Mako said, as Bolin was going through the pages.

"Wait! Stop!" Mako said suddenly, so Bolin stopped turning the pages.

"This is the guy we saw!" Mako said, as he pointed at a picture of a bearded man.

"Are you sure?" I asked, as I looked at him.

"Positive. We have to take this to Beifong," Mako said, as he took the book and my hand.

Mako dragged me, and I quickly got my swords from the table. We ran all the way to the Police Station. When we arrived, I got the book Mako was holding, and took out the picture of the suspect.

"Here, take this to Beifong, I need to return this," I said, as I gave him the picture.

"I'll meet you in the office," Mako said, as he made his way to Beifong's office.

I made my way over to the Research Department, and approached the front desk. I put the book down on the desk, right in front of the officer I borrowed it from earlier.

"Here, thanks for lending it to me," I said, as I gave the book to him.

"No problem, did you find what you were looking for?" the officer asked, I nodded.

"My partner is sending the piece of evidence to Beifong right now," I said, and the officer raised his eyebrows.

"Right now?" the officer repeated, he sounded really worried.

"Yeah, is there a problem?" I asked.

"Well, it's just that Beifong has a meeting with the President, right now," the officer said, I raised my eyebrows.

"Oh spirits," I muttered, before running out of the room.

I ran up the stairs, hoping Mako didn't disturb them at all. I ran through the halls, as fast as I could. When I arrived, however, I knew I was too late, because I could hear Beifong shouting. I was standing at the door frame of the offices, panting for air.

"What does a rookie beat cop think that he can interrupt my meeting with the President," Beifong shouted angrily.

"I'm sorry, I just, um, found a lead on the bombing," Mako said embarrassingly.

"Well, give it to me later, moron! Now get out!" Beifong shouted, as Mako stepped out of her office.

"Sorry, was she busy?" the detective said sarcastically, I glared at him.

I approached Mako, and put a hand on his shoulder to calm him down a bit. Mako put the picture of the suspect right in front of the detectives.

"This is the guy I saw sneaking around at the back of the building on the night of the bombing," Mako said.

"He's a member of the Agni Kai group," I said, as I staring down the two detectives.

"Someone must've hired them to make it look like the Northerners were responsible," Mako said, as the detective took a closer look at the picture.

The detective put the picture we found inside a drawer in his desk.

"Did you learn anything from the remote I found at the scene?" Mako asked.

"Look, kid, it was the Northern Water tribe responsible, okay?" The other detective said lazily.

"Give it a rest, alright? " The detective spat, I glared at the both of them.

"Come on, Mako, these guys are idiots," I said, as I pulled him away from the detectives.

Mako sat on his chair in his own desk, and I sat on top of his desk. I didn't have a desk since I was only a temporary officer. Suddenly, Beifong's office door opened revealing President Raiko and his body guard. I had never met him before, and never had the chance to. Mako and I stood up, with respect.

"President Raiko," I greeted, he looked at me.

"You must be the Princess of the Fire Nation, I presume," Raiko said, I twitched my eye at the mention of princess.

"Just call me Lei, Mr. President," I said, he nodded and turned to Mako.

"I've heard a lot good things about you. You've made a lot of triad busts for a rookie," Raiko complimented Mako.

"Thank you, sir," Mako said gratefully.

"And you're dating the Avatar," Raiko said, I raised my eyebrow.

"Yes, sir," Mako said, Raiko turned to me.

"And you're one of Korra's closest friends and advisor," Raiko said.

"Yes, why do you ask?" I asked curiously.

"I'm concerned that she might be getting some bad advice from Varrick, both of you wouldn't happen to know anything that they're plotting? Do you?" Raiko asked us, Mako and I exchanged looks.

"Could you give us a second?" I asked politely, and Raiko nodded.

I pulled Mako to the side of the room, and looked at him straight in the eye.

"You do realize what he's asking us to do, right?" I asked.

"We should do the right, Lei. They need to know about what they're ask Iroh to do," Mako whispered.

"But if we tell them that, Korra would hate us forever, you do realize that?" I said, Mako sighed.

"And if we don't do this, Iroh could lose his position as General," Mako pointed out.

It took me a moment to realize that. Iroh would most likely lose his job as General of The United Forces if we don't inform the President. Korra's decision is very irrational since she's taking one side in this turf war. I realized that for once, I could handle Korra's decision if I take this opportunity, even if it would mean our friendship. I sighed and looked at Mako.

"Alright," I sighed. Mako nodded.

We approached the President, who had a look of curiosity. Mako and I exchanged looks, to make sure we were making the right decision. He nodded at me, and I turned to President Raiko.

"We have something to tell you, Mr. President," I said.
