Book 1 ~ Chapter 23

✨•~~~~~~~~•✨
LEIs POV

Korra, the airbender kids and I, were on the dock of Air Temple Island, waiting for the arrival for Asami, Mako, and Bolin. We already prepared rooms for them. We saw the ferry approach us and slowly docked right in front of us.

"Welcome to Air Temple Island! You're new home!" Ikki said, as she waved to the guests.

"Yes, welcome to my domain," Meelo said cutely.

"Well, aren't you sweet," Bolin said, Pabu came down from Bolin's shoulder, circled around Meelo, and went to Naga and Kaya.

"What is that fuzzy creature?" Meelo asked, referring to Pabu.

"That is a fire ferret, an arboreal mammal, common in the bamboo forest of the central earth kingdom," Jinora stated. Ikki gasped and ran to Pabu.

"Thanks for sending the Air Acolytes to help us with the move," Mako said, as he stepped down to the dock.

"Yeah, they've been amazing. Such tireless workers," Asami commented, as two air acolytes carried a mountain full of Asami's things.

"I thought you were only bringing a few things?" Korra said.

"Trust me, it could've been worse," Mako said.

"No problem, everyone here wants to make you feel welcome," Korra said.

"This is your home now," I said, as we started walking to the central of the island.

Once, we were at the courtyard, Ikki stopped us.

"Now for the grand tour!" Ikki said excitedly.

"That's the cave where the flying bisons sleep in," Ikki said, pointing to the right.

"That's the temple Grandpa Aang built," Ikki said, pointing to the temple ahead of us.

"And that's the greenhouse where we grow the vegetables we eat," Ikki said quickly, and smiled.

"I have a couple questions. Is this an all vegetarian island? Is that where you train airbenders? Do we need to wear air acolytes clothes? Do we each get our own flying bison? And final question, how many trees are on this island?" Bolin asked.

"Yes, Yes, No, No, 10,552," Ikki answered quickly.

The three of them stared blankly at Ikki. I smiled at their silliness. There was an awkward silence for a few moments until Mako broke it.

"So where are we gonna be staying?" Mako asked.

"You're a boy, boys stay on that side," Meelo said, pointing to the right.

"I'd be happy to show you to the men's dormitory," Jinora said, walking there while Mako followed.

"I'm a boy," Bolin said, and followed them.

"Meelo, why don't you follow the boys," Korra said, Meelo nodded and turned to Asami.

"We shall meet again soon beautiful woman," Meelo said, before following the boys.

"Ikki, Lei, and I, will take you to your room, this way," Korra said walking to the girls dormitory.

My room was right across Asami's, so if she needed anything she could just come to me. We were walking along the hall, and behind me was Korra and Asami. Ikki was next to me.

"Hey, Asami, did you know that Korra likes Mako?" Ikki asked Asami.

I raised my eyebrows and turned to Korra, who had a shocked yet angry expression. I chuckled.

"Oh, no, I wasn't completely aware of that," Asami replied awkwardly, and Korra dragged her to the room.

We arrived in the room, and I was the first to enter followed by Asami and Korra. Korra shut the door, leaving Ikki outside.

"So, here's your room. Sorry if it's a bit rustic compared to what your used to," Korra said.

"I think it's charming, and the best part about it is that nothing reminds me of my father," Asami said.

"My room is right across yours, Asami, so if you need anything, just come to me," I said. Asami smiled.

"Thank you for your hospitality," Asami said.

Suddenly, there was loud knocking coming from the door. Everyone turned to the door.

"Ikki! I swear, if you don't—," Korra got cut off, the door opened revealing Tenzin. I saw Korra tense.

"Uh, Tenzin, come right in," Korra said casually. I rolled my eyes.

"Good day, ladies," Tenzin greeted, and turned to Asami.

"Asami, welcome to the island," Tenzin added.

"Thank you for having me," Asami bowed, Tenzin bowed back.

"Beifong's replacement, Saikon, is going to be inducted as the new chief of police later, I think we should both be there," Tenzin said. Korra frowned.

"What about Asami? I haven't showed her around yet," Korra asked.

"I'll show her around," I said.

"Alright, then, come on, Korra," Tenzin said, before leaving the room.

Korra waved goodbye before following Tenzin. It was just Asami and I in the room, now. I turned to her.

"You can settle in and unpack first, I'll be in the courtyard if you're ready for a tour," I said politely. Asami smiled and nodded.

I exited the room, and made my way out onto the courtyard. I caught a glimpse of Oogie flying to Republic city with Korra and Tenzin. I was walking to the training grounds, when a few white lotus soldiers approached me. I raised my eyebrow.

"Yes?" I asked.

They all went down on one knee, and one of them held out a letter in front of me.

"A letter from the fire nation, princess," the white lotus soldier said. I took it from his hand.

"Thank you," I bowed.

They all stood up from their position and bowed at me, before marching somewhere else. I was about to open the letter, until I saw Mako coming up to me.

"Do all of the people here address you like that?" Mako asked.

"Pretty much everyone who knows I'm the princess," I sighed. Mako smiled lightly.

"How is Asami settling in?" Mako asked.

"She's unpacking right now and I'm taking her around after she's done," I replied.

"You think she'll be alright here?" Mako asked. I smiled at his concern for Asami.

"She'll be fine, and my room is right next to hers so if she needs anything, she can come to me," I replied.

"Thanks Lei, this means a lot to me," Mako said softly.

"Anything for a friend, Mako," I said.

"Do you think I could go over to Asami's room to check on her," Mako asked, I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Mako, boys aren't allowed in the girls dormitory," I stated. He raised an eyebrow.

"That's not what Tenzin said when I was there," Mako said. I raised my eyebrows.

"What? Why were you in the girls dormitory?" I asked curiously.

"I carried you to your room when you were knocked out at the rally," Mako replied. I took a second to remember that day.

"I always thought Korra brought me to my room," I said.

"Nope, it was me," Mako smiled.

I looked at him with a soft expression. He was such a great guy and a great friend. Oh god, was I heavy when he carried me?

"Well, thanks I guess, I'm gonna go check on Asami," I said awkwardly, before leaving to go to Asami.
