Book 2 ~ Chapter 15

✨•~~~~~~~~•✨
LEIs POV

I was holding tightly and strapped onto one of the plane's mast, with Mako tied as well, by my side and strapped to the same mast. Bolin was on the other side of the plane while Asami was, of course, sitting on the pilot's seat. We were already really high up and I could feel the ice cold air blowing through my hair, as the winds grew stronger the higher we went. Flying next to us was Oogi and the rest of the team. We were about to initiate the plan of attack.

"Are you ready?" Asami shouted.

"I'm an earth bender, strapped to the wing of the plane, 1,000 feet above the ground. So, I guess that's a no," Bolin shouted back, I laughed.

"Don't worry, There's no way they'll be expecting this," Mako shouted.

We passed the clouds, and I saw the Spirit portal ahead of me. The beam of light came from the ground and touched the sky till the very top. Dark spirits surrounded the portal in the sky. While, we saw hundreds of Mechtanks and soldiers getting ready to defend the portal.

"I think they were expecting it!" Bolin shouted.

Suddenly, ice spikes were being brutally fired at us. As an instinct, I held onto the mast tightly expecting what happened next. Asami abruptly turned leaned the plane to the right, making us avoid the first shots of ice spikes.

"AAAAAASSAAAAAAMMMMIIIIIIIIII!" Bolin shouted, as Asami kept turning the plane dodging every attack they were throwing at us.

"Get ready!" Asami shouted.

Asami twisted and turned the plane avoiding every attack, as we descended, so that we ourselves could attack.

"FIRE!" Asami shouted.

That was my cue. Asami took us lower next to places that looked like a storage facility. Mako started firing blasts while I threw lightning, causing explosions through some of their facilities. Asami took us higher to get ready for the next attack while dodging a couple more ice spikes. Then, she took us lower, near the herd of mechatanks. Once we were low enough, Bolin started throwing some earth-disc bombs at the mechatanks. Asami started ascending and when we were at a safe distance, Bolin pressed the remote to detonate the bomb. We circled around and spotted where the ice spikes were coming from. It was right next to the fence of the Spirit Forest. Asami turned and drove right by the hidden base, while Bolin planted bombs and detonated them. The plane went higher and we were about to prepare ourselves for our next attack, until the back of our plane was hit badly, causing me to almost fall off but I regained my balance.

"Brace yourselves for impact!"  Asami shouted.

The plane started descending really fast, and I hugged the mast that I was tied to. Then, I felt a figure hugging me, pushing me against the pole tightly. It was Mako. I closed my eyes and waited for impact. The plane hit the ground and the rope that I was tied to got cut off. I fell onto the soft snow and darkness overcame me.

I woke up and didn't know exactly where I was. My feet and hands were chained together. I was at the back of a camel. I looked around and saw Mako and the others chained and carried as well. We stopped, then one of them suddenly picked me up and went inside a tent. Mako and the others were being carried as well. Suddenly, they threw us abruptly to the floor of the tent. I hit the ground and groaned in pain.

"We tried," Mako said, while looking ahead.

I turned to his direction and saw Korra, Kya, and Tenzin were tied up as well. My thoughts started were asking where Bumi was. Behind Korra, was her father tied up, hands at his back, against a pole. There were these weird twins inside the tent as well, but I couldn't tell which one of them was a boy or a girl. Suddenly, a long-faced man entered with very elegant water tribe robes. This man must be Unalaq.

"Congratulations, everyone, you all have front row seats for the beginning of a new world order," Unalaq said.

"You don't know what you're doing, Unalaq. Freeing Vaatu won't make you powerful, it will only make you a traitor to everything good that has happened for the last 10,000 years," Korra said.

"You think what Avatar Wan did was good? Driving almost all the spirits from this world? The Avatar hasn't brought balance, only chaos. You call yourself 'the bridge between the two worlds,' but there shouldn't be a bridge. We should live together as one," Unalaq spat.

"Even if Vaatu escapes, I will put him back in his prison, just like Wan did," Korra said.

"True that when Wan fused with Raava, he did tip the scales in your favour. This time, I'll be here to level the playing field. When Harmonic convergence comes, I will fuse with Vaatu," Unalaq said, the twins widened their eyes at Unalaq, seemingly unaware of his plan.

"And we will become the new Avatar, a Dark Avatar," Unalaq continued.

"Think about what you're doing. You still might have a deep connection with the spirits, but you're still a man. You're my brother. You're Eska and Desna's father. Are you really willing to throw your humanity away to become a monster?" Tonraq asked.

"I'll be no more of a monster than your own daughter. The only difference is while she can barely recognise her spiritual power, I will be in complete alignment with mine. Vaatu and I will become as one, no one will be able to stand against us," Unalaq said confidently.

"You sure about that?" I taunted him, he narrowed his eyes at me and kneeled next to me.

"You must be the fire nation princess, Korra kept telling me about before. Trust me, when Vaatu and I become one, your title won't mean anything at all," Unalaq said, while grabbing my jaw tightly and I glared at him.

"Don't touch her," Mako spat, Unalaq looked at Mako then at me.

Unalaq stood up and brushed the dust off his robes.

"Keep them locked up. Once Harmonic convergence is over, I will come for Korra," Unalaq said to the twins.

"Yes, father," Eska said, as Unalaq left with the rest of the guards.

"I failed in every way. We've lost Jinora forever," Tenzin said softly.

"There's still a chance, they didn't get Bumi," I heard Kya whisper and Tenzin sigh.

It's been a while and we were desperately waiting for Bumi to come, the only hope we had left. I tried breaking free a couple of times by trying to break the chains like I did when Amon captured me, but the chains were too strong and my hands started bleeding. I winced in pain a bit, and Mako scooted closer to me. He put his hands on top of mine, which meant he wanted me to stop. I sighed and put my head on his shoulder, growing tired of trying. Ahead of me was Eska and Desna were looking out of the tent.

"Eska, Desna, please listen to me. You've gotta help us stop Unalaq. I know he's your father, but Vaatu has made him completely crazy," Korra said.

"We would never turn on our father," Eska said.

"Please, if you let me go now, I can still stop him from destroying everything. Once he fuses with Vaatu, no one will be safe and he won't be your father anymore," Korra pleaded.

"You don't know what you're talking about! Our father is the wisest man in the world, and if says what he's doing is right, I believe him," Desna retorted, but I had a feeling he was lying.

Suddenly, there was a loud bang that sounded like an explosion, which cause me to lift my head from Mako's shoulder. I could hear a whole ruckus going on outside and it made me curious to what was happening. My thoughts were answered when Bumi slid into the tent sitting on a passenger's seat, while knocking over the twins.

"Alright, guys, rescue time," Bumi said.

Eska and Desna got up and I thought they were going to attack Bumi until Kaya and Naga each knocked one out. On top of Naga was Pabu. Bumi unchained us and I went to Kaya. She licked my cheek and I laughed. Once everyone was unchained, we stepped outside to see the whole camp in ruins.

"How did you manage to take out this entire encampment on your own?" Tenzin said in disbelief.

"I did it all with my trusted fluget," Bumi said, as he took out his fluget.

"Oh, nevermind, You wouldn't believe it anyway. Let's get moving," Bumi continued, as he started marching ahead.

We made our way into the Spirit Forest. Walking fast and being cautious on the way. Once, we were away from the camp and right next to the Spirit Portal, we took a stop to regroup and settle a plan.

"You head into the portal, I'll take care of anyone who tries to stop you," Tonraq said weakly.

"No, you're hurt and need a healer. Asami, can you take Oogi and bring my dad back to my mom?" Korra asked, Asami nodded as she made her way over to Oogi.

"This is my fight now," Korra said, as she hugged her dad.

"I love you, Korra," Tonraq said, before pulling away.

Tonraq boarded Oogi and Asami hopped on as well. Asami took off into the air, making their way back to the Avatar base. Korra turned around and faced Tenzin.

"Once we're inside the spirit world, find Jinora," Korra said, then she turned to Mako, Bolin, and I.

"Mako, Bolin, and Lei will take care of Unalaq while I close the portal so that Vaatu can't escape," Korra said, I nodded at her.

"Wait! Worse case scenario! You close the portal, Vaatu can't escape, but if something goes wrong, will we be trapped inside for like an eternity?!" Bolin said shakily.

"If everything's goes as planned, we will all walk out of the spirit portal together after Harmonic convergence. If not...." Korra trailed off.

"Let's go," Korra said, before running towards the Spirit Portal.

I ran behind her as we entered the beam of light. All I saw was a bright light until I kept walking and saw another world before my eyes. It was a big area, there were two spirit portals, both opened in each side and a tree right in between them. Vaatu must be trapped in there because I saw Unalaq standing right in front of it with a few of the dark spirits. He spotted us and sent the dark spirits to attack us.

"Tenzin, go find Jinora! Now!" Korra shouted, as Tenzin, Kya and Bumi started running from the scene.

Korra smacked her fists together and went into the Avatar state. She immediately sent a large air blast at the dark spirits, who were blown away. Unalaq was running towards us now, so, Mako, Bolin, and I started running towards him as well. While, Korra ran back to the portal to close it. Mako sent a blazing arc right at Unalaq. Bolin created a shield, using a boulder, while throwing large boulders at him. I sent him all the lightning I could conjure but he was dodging all of our attacks with his water whip. Mako and Bolin came up with a plan. Bolin made a ramp for Mako leading to Unalaq. Mako ran up the ramp and jumped off getting ready to Unalaq but he was sprayed with a water lash causing him to fall to the ground. Bolin lowered the ramp and was about to throw another boulder but Unalaq whipped him with the water whip. For my last attempt, I sent him a couple of blazing arcs with a few swift kicks and a single lightning shot but he dodged all of my attacks, and hit me with his water whip knocking me back all the way to Korra's feet, who was still trying to close the portal.

"You're too late, Raava. I know you can feel it," Vaatu said loudly.

Korra was about to close the portal until it blasted right back to it's original state, only looking stronger than it did before. The two portal started connecting with each other and started conjuring electricity with it. The lightning sparks started hitting the tree, and after a while, it freed whatever was inside it. The dark spirit that emerged from it was incredibly huge, and it looked like a squid with one eye. It laughed evilly and it meant one thing.

Vaatu is free and harmonic convergence has begun.
