Book 1 ~ Chapter 6

✨•~~~~~~~~•✨
LEIs POV

It was an early morning, and Korra dragged me with her to train with the boys. I brought Kaya with me, and leaned on her, a she laid down on the ground of the gym. Her fur was soft, but her shell was hard making it impossible to be comfortable.

"I'm annoyed. Why do we have to train in the morning?" Korra complained.

"I'm still mad at you for bringing me with you," I said.

"We're the rookies, so we have the worst time slot to practice," Bolin explained as he passed the ball to Mako.

"You're the rookiest of us all, which means you need more training if we wanna get into the championships so deal with it," Mako threw the ball at Korra.

"You deal with it," Korra said as she threw the ball at Mako, too hard. He fell. Korra smirked and I gave her a thumbs up.

Suddenly, the door opened revealing a man.

"There's my little hardworking street urchins," The man said. He came up to Korra and smiled. I narrowed my eyes and got up. I stood next to Korra.

"It's an honor to finally meet you, Avatar," the man said.

"And you are?" I asked.

"Butakha, I run this whole pro-bending shubang. Here are your winnings from the last match," Butakha said as he gave Mako a stack of cash. He smiled, huh, he looked nice when he smiled. Okay mind, stop there.

"Uh uh, not so fast, you owe me, so I'll be taking that, for the Avatar's new gear, gym and equipment rentals from last month, rent for your apartment, and a personal loan for the groceries," the man took all of Mako's money. Mako glared at his brother.

"What? I'm a growing boy," Bolin defended.

"Oh, and one more thing, the fire ferrets need to give thirty thousand yuans for the championship pot," Butakha explains, I widened my eyes.

"Thirty thousand yuans?!" Bolin exclaims.

"You've got till the end of the week to give me the money, or else you are out of the tournament," Butakha said before leaving the room.

"You don't happen to have a secret Avatar bank that's overflowing with gold, do you," Bolin asked with hope in his eyes. But it made me wonder, does she have a secret Avatar bank?

"I got nothing," Korra said. Well, that answers my question.

"I've never really needed any money. I've always had someone taking care of me," Korra said, I looked at Bolin and Mako who seemed off.

"You guys okay?" I asked worried.

"Fine, but then I wouldn't say you have nothing," Mako said bitterly.

"Sorry I didn't mea—" Korra was cut off.

"No, its okay, ever since we lost our parents, we've been on our own," Bolin said softly. I softened my gaze at the boys.

"Sorry, we didn't know," I said softly, Mako looked at me, and I could've sworn I saw him smile a bit.

"So, does anyone have any ideas on how we can earn that much money?" Mako asked. Everyone went silent, until Bolin stepped up.

"Oh! I know! I've been teaching Pabu some tricks recently, I know people would good money to see that," Bolin said happily, with Pabu sitting on his shoulder.

"We need serious ideas, Bolin," Mako said seriously.

"I am serious," Bolin tried.

"Don't worry about it, I'll figure something out, I always do," Mako said softly to Bolin, before walking away. I followed him as he walked out of the gym.

"Mako!" I called. He turned around.

"What is it?" He asked.

"Let me help you," I offered, He stayed quiet, as if he was thinking about it. Is he serious. Does he not want help.

"I don't know, do you know how to lightning bend?" Mako asked.

"Oh that, that's easy, why?" I asked. Lord Zuko taught me how to lightning bend when I turned 13.

"Well, they're hiring people in a power plant nearby, to use lightning, for power, and if you can come you can earn money for yourself too," Mako explained.

"I'll come, but I'm giving the money to you," I said, Mako seem surprised.

"Why?" Mako asked, "Don't you hate me?"

"I don't hate you, I just think you're annoying and mean sometimes, and plus I'm doing this for Korra and you guys," I said truthfully.

"Alright then, come on," Mako said as he walked and I walked by his side.

Mako and I went to the power plant, they offered us the job since they were desperate. The owner of the power plant didn't believe I could lightning bend until I electrocuted him. Once he hired us, we were separated into groups, but I was grouped with Mako. We had to lightning bend the whole day. On our last round, I stood next to him and on the signal, I released lighting onto the power grid. When the whistle blew again, it meant the day was over. I took of my goggles (A/N: the goggles on the character design in the introduction is used when she lightning bends btw), I didn't accept the mask they got me because I wanted to use the goggles I had. Mako took of his mask as well, and he was covered with sweat.

"You good?" Mako asked.

"My arm is a bit sore but otherwise, alright," I said tiredly. He smiled lightly.

At the end of our shift, we changed into our regular clothes and were given our promised payment. It wasn't that much, combined with mine and Mako's earnings.

"Thanks for helping us out," Mako said. I smiled.

"No problem, I'm gonna head back to Air temple island," I said.

"Oh, okay, I'll see you tomorrow then," Mako said as he waved goodbye, and I waved back.

When I got to the island, I went to see Korra who was practicing with the airbender kids. Kaya and Naga were resting under the trees, and I joined them.

"Where were you the whole day?" Korra asked.

"Oh, I just helped Mako with something," I said tiredly. Korra narrowed her eyes at me.

"What?" I asked. Why was she staring at me like that.

"Do you like him?" Korra asked casually.

"What? No, why would you think that," I asked. Me? Like Mako? No. Just no. Korra seemed nervous, but then I understood the situation.

"Are you jealous? Do you like Mako?" I asked curiously, Korra immediately blushed, and I laughed hysterically.

"D-Don't say anything!" Korra shouted.

"Of course not, Korra, but why exactly would you like him of all people," I asked.

"Well, I—" Korra got cut off by Ikki.

"Hey! Look, its the cute firebender guy," Ikki said, I looked behind Korra, who immediately turned around, to see him walking this way.

"Oh, Hey, Mako," Korra said awkwardly, I rolled my eyes and walked over to them.

"Hey, have you guys seen Bolin?" Mako asked.

"I haven't seen him since we left," I said.

"Do you think something happened?" Korra asked.

"I don't know, Bolin has a knack for getting into stupid situations, See you guys later," Mako said before walking away.

"Wait!" Korra said, as he followed him. If she's going somewhere, that means I have too as well. So, I followed behind her.

"Maybe, I could help you find him," Korra suggested.

"Nah, I got it," He insisted, I rolled my eyes.

"Stop being so stubborn and let us help you," I said. I looked at Korra, who seemed to thank me.

"We can take Naga," Korra said. Mako looked confused.

"Who's Naga?" Mako asked.

"My bestfriend, and a great tracker," Korra said.

"I'll bring Kaya as well," I said.
