chapter 3 ✩₊

finally, the moment that you've been waiting for arrived. you were about to get sorted into your house, the house that you would have to spend the next six years with.

professor Mcgonagall called your name, and explained how you were transferred here from your last school.  "we will be having a new second year student and i expect a welcoming attitude from all students in her grade. miss y/n l/n, please come up here and sit."

you walked to the chair she was gesturing at and sat on it, choosing to ignore the many curious stares of the students. "they're just staring cause im extremely attractive and cool,,, yeah,, that's it." you thought to calm yourself down. it wasn't working well at all.

you were grateful when the hat was placed on your head as it slid down and blocked your vision. it almost (keyword: almost) distracted you from the fact that everyone in the hall was staring at you with wide impatient eyes. did they stare so intensely at everyone else like this while they were being sorted?

"i see, i see, hmmm" the sorting hat muttered. "uhm, what exactly do you see?" you asked, quietly. you actually highly doubted that he could see anything in a literal sense, but that didn't really matter.

"great qualities, good grades, determined, likeable, good connections, a little strange," he listed his thoughts about you, and your ego was getting boosted till you heard the strange part. "your face is strange,," you replied, louder this time. you could hear a bunch of students laughing and you weren't  sure if they were laughing at you or with you,but it didn't really matter either way.

there was a moment of silence before the sorting hat spoke again. "alright, GRYFFINDOR !" he shouted and the gryffindor table cheered loudly as the hat was taken off your head and you could finally see again.

you smiled as you spotted hermione. she was clapping and cheering particularly loud as you ran towards her and gave her a hug. "y/n! i knew it!" she said through her laughter and hugged you tighter. her embrace was warm and comforting and you wouldn't mind staying in this exact same position with her for the whole night. after a few seconds she finally let you go, "c'mon sit down here!" she patted down the seat next to hers as she sat down.

you gladly sat down besides her and was greeted by the other gryffindors, all of them welcoming you to their house. before anyone could introduce themselves to you, dumbeldore requested the attention of the students. he explained the things students were forbidden to do as a reminder, and then let the feast begin.

"did you finally find the friends you were looking for hermione?" you asked as everyone started to fill their plates with food. she shook her head, looking disappointed. "its weird,, they should be here, i mean i don't have the slightest clue of where else they could possibly be." she responded.

a boy with a round face chimed in. "if you're talking about harry and ron, i heard they got here by car! a flying car! and a bunch of muggles spotted them along the way." he then looked over at you. "i'm neville longbottom by the way, nice to meet you." you could tell he was trying his very hardest to sound cool and collected, but it was a bit impossible to not notice him fidgeting with his hands and the reddening of the tip of his ears. "nice to meet you too neville!"

hermione didn't seem all that happy about the news. " a flying car? if they were spotted then,," she trailed off. "can't they get expelled for that?" you continued for her. she sighed and put some tart on her plate, and you felt as if you had said the wrong thing. "let's hope not,," she said in a tone that was a mix of disappointed and concern.

the rest of the feast had gone by pretty quickly. hermione didn't talk much, she just played with her food and sighed every once in a while. you tried to comfort her, but you were interrupted by sean finnigan and dean thomas  introducing themselves to you. the introduction turned into a whole conversation, as they both seemed interested in talking to you. and before you knew it, it was time to go back to the dorms.

seamus and dean, both got up first and bid you their goodbyes.

"hermione i'm sure they'll be fine, didn't you tell me about how dumbledore seems to have a soft spot for harry?" you pat her back, getting up from your seat.

she looked up at you, and smiled as she also got up. "i guess there's no point worrying about it now," you smiled back at her, happy to see her mood brighten. she pointed to the ceiling and continued. "did i tell you about how the ceiling here works?" she changed the topic as you both followed the other gryffindors out of the great hall.

she was in the middle of her passionate explanation (which was very endearing to listen to) when she was cut off  by a tall ginger, wearing a badge on his robe. he seemed to be about 4 years older that you.

"y/n i trust that hermione will tell you most of the things you need to know, but if theres anything you need help with, i'm one of the prefects of gryffindor, percy weasly and i'll try my best to help you out," he pat your shoulder and walked away, "first years follow me!"

"well damn,, i'll make sure to need alot of help then." you said, grinning as you lightheartedly nudged hermione. she pulled you by your hand, guiding you on where to go. "oh please y/n, you can't be serious." she looked back at you as if you had just single handedly ruined her year.

"just kidding,, the age difference would be a bit. much." you cackled at her facial expression. she sighed out of relief. "i mean, half joking." you continued, as she playfully hit your shoulder and laughed. "you don't mean that." she said as you both finally reached the gryffindor tower and waited for percy to say the password.

"don't be so sure of that" you replied.
