Prologue

A/N- the timeline is the first avenger movie but instead of being in 2012, it's in 2014. I do not own any of these characters or the plot I only own Athena. Also! I am rewriting this story in the way I would now, which means the POV will change. Instead of 1st person it will now be written in 3rd person.

Dream

"She can't be here," A voice said.

"She is my daughter! You can't take her away from me!" Mom yelled and Athena walked up to her mom. "Mommy?" She asked and her mom turned around and placed a fake smile onto her face. "Go back to bed, sweetheart," Mom said trying to keep her anger hidden. "Okay," Athena said as she walked up the stairs.

"She is five years old. You can't take her. I am perfectly capable of raising her," She said.

"Natasha, it will be better for her to stay away from any danger," the man said.

"I can protect her!" Mom yelled, getting more frustrated by the second. "I know you can but we need her safe," the man said.

"Fury, you can't take her from me," Mom said.

"Natasha! Stop arguing she is staying with a nice family," he said and he walked over to the stairs and saw Athena sitting at the top of the stairs.

7 years old

Athena woke up with sweat dripping down her forehead. She quietly stood from her bed and walked over to her door. She opened it slowly, hoping that the hinges wouldn't squeal. Athena walked down the stairs making sure to avoid the steps she knew would creak.

When she finally made it to the kitchen she felt like she could finally breathe. She opened the fridge and grabbed a water bottle. As she turned around she froze. Her foster dad stood in the doorway of the basement staring at her. "Come here," he said and Athena hesitantly walked over to him.

"What is it now?" Athena asked, knowing it was some sort of experiment. All she was to him was a test subject. "A new serum. Technically not new, it's like the last one, but with some improvements," He said and Athena sat on the hospital bed.

She used to fight it, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't get him to stop injecting her with random serums. So she decided if she was willing then maybe it wouldn't hurt so bad. "Hold out your arm," Her foster dad said and she did as he ordered.

He stabbed the needle into her arm and injected the serum. Athena's vision started to go blurry, all she could do was hear. She could hear some sort of commotion coming from upstairs. "Damn it," she heard her foster dad say.

"Dr. Carl Campbell, you are under arrest," she heard a man say, she could just barely see a group of people in black suits with guns aimed at her foster Dad. She watched as they placed handcuffs on him and walked him out of the basement. "There's a kid down here. Should I bring her in?" A man asked.

A few seconds later the man walked up to her. "Hey kid, what's your name?" The man asked as he removed the needle that was still in her arm. "Athena," she answered and as she jumped down from the table she started to get dizzy. She swayed for a moment before she collapsed to the ground.

Athena woke up in a small white room with bright fluorescent lights. "Oh, you're awake," a voice said and Athena looked over and saw a nurse standing by her bed. The nurse reached towards Athena's arm which she immediately pulled away. "It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you. I just need to check a few things, I'll walk you through it all," the nurse said and Athena nodded.

After the few tests the woman opened the door. "Get the director, she's awake," The nurse said before closing the door and walking towards her. "What's going on?" Athena asked.

"You'll find out soon enough," the nurse said and the door opened and a man with an eye patch walked in. "Hello, Athena. I'm Director Nick Fury, we are here to help you," Director Nick Fury said.

"Help me with what?" Athena asked.

"That is something only time will tell," Director Fury said.

Present

Athena sat in her room reading a book when a loud alarm started going off. She stood from her bed and walked into the hallway. She looked around and noticed people running around. Athena walked down the hall and as she approached the lab she could hear voices.

Athena snuck into the lab and stood by one of the desks where no one could really see her. "Talk to me, Doctor," Director Fury said as he walked up to Dr. Selvig. "Director," Dr. Selvig acknowledged.

"Is there anything we know for certain?" Fury asked.

"The Tesseract is misbehaving," the Doctor said.

"Is that supposed to be funny?" Fury asked.

"No, it's not funny at all," the doctor said.

"The tesseract is not only active, she's....behaving," the doctor said.

"I assume you pulled the plug," Fury said.

"She's an energy source. We turn off the power, she turns it back on. If she reaches peak level," Dr. Selvig started, but instead Athena looked at the tesseract. It looked like it was sparking.

"Where's Agent Barton?" Director Fury asked bringing Athena back into the conversation. "The hawk, up in his nest as usual," Dr. Selvig replied and Barton made his way down towards Director Fury. "Doctor, it's spiking again," one of the doctor's said.

"No one's come or gone and Selvig's clean. No contact, no IMs. If there was any tampering, sir. It wouldn't be at this end," Barton said.

"'At this end'?" Director Fury asked.

"A doorway to the other end of space, right? A door opens from both sides," Barton said.

"Not yet," Dr. Selvig whispered and the Tesseract started to spike again, but this time with a lot more power than the rest. After the small earthquake caused by the cube, Athena walked back and accidentally knocked something over. It landed on the floor and made a loud clang. "Damn it," Athena whispered.

Athena gave up on her hiding spot and walked towards the group. "Sorry! That was me," Athena said.

"What are you doing in here?" Dr. Selvig asked.

"I heard a commotion in here. I thought I would check it out," Athena said.

"Agent Brown, you need to get out of here. It's not safe. There's a reason people are evacuating," Director Fury said and the Tesseract started spiking again. They all looked towards it and it seemed like it was getting bigger. Then, it shot a bright blue ray of energy and formed some sort of portal in the middle of the room.

Athena ducked as the burst of energy came towards her. She watched as all of the agents went up to where the Tesseract was with their weapons drawn. The smoke calmed and she could see a man kneeling on the ground.

"Sir, please put down the spear," Fury yelled at the man as he stood from the ground. The man shot the spear at all of the agents. Athena managed to duck out of the way, she barely missed it.

Then multiple gunshots sounded as Athena tried to pull herself together. This would technically be her first fight and she had no idea how to go through with it. Athena looked around her hiding spot and saw a man attacking one of the agents.

As Athena looked closer at the man, she recognized him from her history books. He was Loki, the god of mischief. The only problem was that he wasn't supposed to be real. Loki turned towards where she was hiding and she quickly ducked behind it.

Athena looked around the corner again and saw Loki poking Clint's chest with his spear. Fury looked over to where she was and waved his hand at her as if to tell her to go. Athena shook her head. Then Loki shot a blast at Fury. This caused him to land next to the Tesseract.

Athena raised her hand to try and use her powers to remove the spear from Loki's grasp. The spear began to shake, but Loki didn't pay it any mind. "Please don't, I still need that," Loki said and Athena looked and saw Fury holding a case.

"This doesn't need to get any messier," Fury said and Athena quickly moved over to a different hiding spot. "Of course it does," Loki said.

"I've come too far anything else. I am Loki, of Asgard, and I am burdened with glorious purpose," Loki said.

"Loki, brother of Thor." Dr. Selvig said.

"We do not quarrel with your people," Fury said.

"An ant does not quarrel with a boot," Loki said.

"Are you planning to step on us?" Fury asked, Athena got Director Fury's attention and nodded towards the door which was blocked. He nodded slightly and turned back to Loki.

"I come with glad tidings of a world made free," Loki said.

"Free from what?" Fury asked.

"Freedom is life's great lie," Loki said and Athena looked towards the door. She tried to move the huge rock that was blocking the door, but it wouldn't budge.
