Chapter 18

Once Athena finished packing her bag, she and MJ walked out of the hotel room. "OK, I still don't understand how you are so calm after what happened. If I were on that elevator I would still be freaking out," MJ said and Athena gave her a weird look. "No you wouldn't," Athena said.

"You're right, I wouldn't," MJ said, causing Athena to laugh. "I'm not calm. I am still silently freaking out," Athena said, to say her adrenaline rush was crazy would be an understatement. "About which part?" MJ asked while looking over at Athena. "The fact that I almost died in an elevator," Athena said.

"So the fact that Spider-Man saved you still hasn't clicked in your brain yet?" MJ asked, almost surprised by it still. "It's clicked, I just don't know how to react, I guess," Athena said while trying to come up with excuses on why she wasn't freaking out.

MJ and Athena arrived at the lobby of the hotel and saw their classmates standing around. "Interesting. I definitely took you more as a fangirl type," MJ said and Athena just shrugged as the two of them approached their classmates.

Mr. Harrington did a headcount of everyone on the team and then walked everyone out to the bus. Athena stuck by MJ the entire time since MJ was still talking about the events of the Washington Monument thing.

Eventually, MJ and Athena got on the bus and once Athena was situated in her seat, she grabbed her phone and earphones and started to listen to music while the bus drove away from the hotel. Then Athena accidentally drifted off to sleep.

Athena was shaken awake after hours of sleeping. She opened her eyes and looked at who was shaking her awake. She took out her earphones and looked at MJ. "What?" Athena asked.

"We're here," MJ said and Athena nodded as she grabbed her things and stood from her seat to exit the bus. She was just excited to go home at this point. She followed MJ out of the bus and then stood by the bus to wait to be picked up.

Then out of the corner of her eye, she saw the overly familiar black car that Happy always drove to pick her up. She started to walk towards the car, pretty much only thinking about how she couldn't wait to sleep in her bed. Especially now that the adrenaline rush has calmed down. Athena got into her car and was bombarded with questions from Happy.

All Athena could do at that point was to just say that she was okay and leave it at that until she had the energy to tell him about it tomorrow.

While Athena was in the car, she fell asleep again and when she was awakened it was from the abrupt turn into the driveway of the new Compound. She looked around to try and figure out where she was. It felt like she was only asleep for a couple of minutes, but now she had no idea where she was. That was until the compound came into view.

Happy stopped at the front doors of the compound and helped Athena with her things. Athena walked out of the elevator and into the common area of her floor and saw her mother sitting on the couch. "What are you doing here?" Athena asked.

" I saw what happened to you on the news. I wanted to make sure you were okay," Natasha said as she placed a reassuring hand on Athena's shoulder. The whole thing about being mother and daughter was still new to them. "I'm okay. Peter got there right on time as always," Athena said.

"I'm glad. Go get some rest. I'm sure you're exhausted," Natasha said.

"Exhausted would be an understatement," Athena said as she started to walk towards her room. "Goodnight!" Athena said before fully leaving the living room. As Athena walked down the hall to her room, a thought popped into her head. She had homework due tomorrow that she meant to do on the bus, but didn't. She wasn't going to get it all done tonight, but she could get some of it done.

Once she reached her room she grabbed her school bag and grabbed her notebook and textbook out to start her assignments. Getting her brain to focus proved to be harder than she expected even though she had already slept for probably six hours at this point.

Athena managed to get about halfway done with her homework before her brain completely timed out from exhaustion.

The next morning, Athena woke up to the sound of her alarm clock beeping in her ear. With an annoyed groan, Athena got out of her bed and went into the bathroom to start getting ready for the day.

Once Athena decided that her appearance was acceptable she walked out of the bathroom and grabbed her school bag. She placed the assignment she was working on into her bag and went down to the kitchen for breakfast.

She walked into the kitchen and made herself some cereal and quickly ate it before starting on her homework again while she waited for a text from Happy.

Athena was so close to being done when she received the text from Happy. She quickly packed her things up and walked out of the front door where Happy's car was parked.

Athena finished her assignments during the first ten minutes of the car ride, so she decided to tell Happy about her trip to Washington D.C. which Happy tried his best to try and pretend to not be interested.

By the time Athena finished her story, she was at school already. "Thank you, Happy!" Athena said as she got out of the car and walked up the stairs to the front doors of the school. She went straight to her locker to put a few of her books away before heading toward her Homeroom class.

As she walked through the hallway, the story of the Washington D.C. trip was all anyone was talking about. From the win on the decathlon team to the fact that Spider-Man saved the majority of the team.

*After School*

Athena walked out of the school and looked for Ned and Peter. She found Ned, but couldn't see Peter anywhere. "Ned, where's Peter?" Athena asked as she walked up to him. "He's in detention," Ned said and Athena had a confused look on her face. "Detention?" Athena asked.

"Yeah, for skipping the decathlon or something. He didn't get to explain it. He was more focused on planning how to ask Liz to Homecoming," Ned said and Athena felt a tang of jealousy at what Ned was saying. She couldn't place why. "He asked Liz out?" Athena asked.

"Yeah. Surprising, right?" Ned said and Athena nodded. "Yeah," Athena said, then she spotted Happy's car. "I got to go. I'll talk to you later," Athena said and she walked towards Happy's car. She got in and the drive home started.

As soon as Athena stepped foot into the compound, her phone started to ring. She answered it after seeing who was calling. "What's up?" She asked.

"I need your help," Peter whispered and Athena looked at the door to make sure that Happy was gone. "Is everything okay?" She asked.

"Yeah, I just need you to meet me at the ferry docks," Peter said and Athena sighed. "Okay, I'll be there soon," she said as she hung up the phone. Athena made a quick trip up to her room for a few weapons and then left the compound. Within minutes she was finding her way to the location that Peter sent her.

Athena arrived at the docks and could barely see Peter fighting somebody. She couldn't really make out who. She could only assume it was Vulture or something. Athena did her best to get onto the Ferry and make it to where Peter was. As she got to where the main fight was, she saw that Peter was fighting Vulture. So she was right about that assumption.

"You brought help, kid. Probably smart," Vulture said as he aimed some sort of device at Athena. She barely dodged in time. Peter tried his best to distract Vulture while Athena tried to come up with a plan. While Athena was helping, Vulture used some sort of laser thing to cut the ferry in half, then flew away from the fight. Peter immediately jumped into action, but at this point, there was nothing that Athena could too help.

Peter tried his best to pull the ferry back together, but it didn't work. Then, Athena heard machines flying by and she immediately froze. "We are in so much trouble," Athena whispered to herself.

"Hey! It's Iron Man!" A man yelled as he pointed at the red blur that flew around the ferry. The ferry was pushed together with some sort of device that Tony had put together. "Iron Man saved us!" A woman yelled and before Athena could even react to what happened, she was picked up and placed on a rooftop.

Tony landed in front of Athena and Peter and she could tell that he was mad. "Previously on Peter Screws-the-pooch, I tell you to stay away from this. Instead, you hacked into a multimillion-dollar suit so you could sneak around behind my back doing the one thing I told you not to do," Tony said.

"He didn't sneak around behind your back," Athena defended and Tony looked at her. "Don't defend him," Tony said.

"Is everyone okay?" Peter asked, hoping to turn the attention back onto him so Athena wouldn't get yelled at. "No thanks to you," Tony said.

"No thanks to me?" Peter asked as he got off the ledge he was sitting on. "Those weapons were out there and I tried to tell you about it. None of this would have happened if you just listened to me! If you even cared you would actually be here," Peter said and Athena just looked between the two of them. This was something that was pent up for a while.

Tony landed on the roof and his suit opened up and he walked out of it. "I did listen, kid. Who do you think called the FBI, huh?" Tony said.

"Maybe you should've told us that you believed us. Have you thought about that?" Athena said now getting irritated that Tony's was trying to turn this on them. Well, on Peter specifically. "What if something happened to you, Athena? What would your mom say about that?" Tony asked.

"You do not get to use my mother against me," Athena stated, raising her voice a little more than she had initially intended. "Go home, Athena," Tony said and she looked over at Peter for a second. He seemed fine with it so she left.
