i hate who i was before

i fear i wont live to see the day tomorrow

T H E Y WERE IN THE WOODS again, the crisp cold air engulfing them. Giving a mere allusion of protection, however feeling protected was the last thing Eden felt. Instead, she felt rage. Pure, filthy rage at the idea that Jacob suddenly pulled a switch and decided it didn't feel right for Eden to fight with them. As if she didn't have the same worries about him being injured, or even worse, killed.

"You're not fighting? What, you pull a muscle or something?" Jacob sarcastically muttered to Edward, deciding he would rather pretend as though nothing was wrong. Eden pursed her lips as annoyance scratched at her. They were going fine, she knew relationships were not always all daisies and rainbows but Jacob couldn't have chosen a worse time than now to throw a tantrum.

"He's doing it for me. Okay?" Bella cried out, at Jacob who in return looked between her and Edward. The vampire shook his head with disdain.

"Whatever, can you just tell us the plan." Eden interrupted, unable to handle the conversation. Jasper took this as his introduction as he suddenly took a step forward, looking between the three.

"This field will give us an advantage in battle. We need to lure the newborns with Bella's scent. it needs to end here."

"Edward and I are going on a campsite. Even if he carries me, they'll still pick up our scents" Bella replied, biting her lip nervously as she pulled a strand of her hair behind her ear.

"Your stench, however, is revolting." Edward bit out, glaring at Jacob who rolled his eyes in return.

"Dude, you really don't want to start comparing stinks."

"How about, I carry Bella? My scent will mask hers" Eden suddenly spoke up, feeling useless and knowing it would further annoy Jacob with a slight grin on her face.

"No." Jacob said, scowling as he looked at his imprint. Eden barely managed to even finish her sentence and he was already disagreeing.

"That sounds good to me" Bella replied, shrugging.

"This is not a good idea" Edward said, shaking his head once again as he furrowed his eyebrows. The vampire was trying to think of a different plan, however, Eden knew it was between her and Jacob who would have to carry Bella and she knew Edward would rather expose himself to humans once again than have Jacob be anywhere near Bella.

"Edward, would you rather it be Jacob?" Jasper pointed out, making Edward go quiet and at that Eden and Bella exchanged wide grins.

"Okay let's just try it." Bella nodded before extending her arm to Eden who grinned and picked her up. It felt weird to Eden to hold someone who should be a similar weight to her, however, due to her supernatural strength it felt as though she was holding a mere stick.

With one last look at Jacob, who was looking at Eden with puppy dog eyes, she ran through the trees. She wasn't using her supernatural speed, but she was still fast. Not breaking a sweat, and suddenly enough time had passed where they started to walk and Eden was able to put Bella down.

"I'm surprised Jacob hasn't asked you to sit out of the fight"

"You think he hasn't?" Eden laughed out, rolling her eyes as they continued to walk between the trees. The sun glared into her skin, a familiar resemblance of the warmth Jacob provides on days when it's so cold, that she has to snuggle tight between his arms.

"So how come you aren't?" Bella questioned, stopping and putting her weight behind a tree as she stared at Eden confused.

"Do you listen to everything Edward says? Would you really sit out on a fight knowing your friends and the one you love the most could get hurt," Eden said before pausing and breaking the eye contact she held with Bella. Feeling uncomfortable at revealing a moment of weakness, "or even worse, killed? I couldn't do that, Bells."

"I get what you mean, but he's just looking out for you" Bella replied, a sad look in her eyes as she continued to stare at Eden.

"He may have the right intentions, but it's not right. I don't want him to fight, but I'm not telling you not to." Eden muttered out, before signalling her head towards back to where the others were. She knew she may be unreasonable at being angry towards Jacob, but she wasn't ignoring him or anything. They still had only got into this argument the moment they had arrived at the forest and were unable to finish it.

"I'm sorry, I wish this wasn't happening. I don't want anyone to fight over me" Bella said, guilt lacing her tone as she fumbled towards Eden, preparing for the werecoyte to lift her up once again.

"It's not happening only because of you, Bells. If this wasn't happening, they'll continue to harm others." Eden said, before lifting Bella up. Allowing silence to engulf them until Jacob entered her sight.

As the others continued to leave, Eden and Jacob were left alone in the forest once again. It reminded her of the other time they were alone. However, instead of Jacob chasing her around in the forest, they stood in silence.

"You're still not going to fight," Jacob spoke up, staring at Eden directly into her eyes. Eden couldn't help but let out a scoff, she wasn't sure why she expected an apology for his unreasonable request.

"I'm not sure who you think you are, Jacob, but you can't tell me what to do," Eden replied, taking a few steps away and preparing to leave before suddenly Jacob gently pulled her arm back. Forcing her to look directly into his brown eyes.

"I'm not telling you what to do, but you're still my imprint." He said, scanning her face and for a second, he stared at her lips before landing once again at her eyes. Eden shook her arm away from him as she glared at him.

"And as your imprint, I'm telling you I'm going to fight."

"Eden, please. I'm just asking you to not fight. I don't want to lose you." Jacob replied, staring at her with puppy dog eyes that made Eden feel a little guilty, keyword, little. She knew what he was doing and it was not going to work.

"And what if I lose you? I sit out on this fight and I suddenly lose you! Knowing I could've been there and protected you? Do you really expect me to not do anything?' Eden said, slightly raising her voice as her eyes flashed with a mixture of frustration and hurt.

"You won't!"

"I can't believe you don't see my point, Jacob," Eden exclaimed, her voice tinged with a hint of desperation. "It's like you're not even trying to understand where I'm coming from, how are you so sure?" she clenched her fists as tears began to form in her eyes.

Jacob ran a hand through his dishevelled hair, his jaw clenching in response. "I'm trying, Eden, but you're not making it easy. I just don't want to see you get hurt. I'll be fine, the pack will be there to defend me if I get hurt. You won't be able to stop what could happen."

Eden took a step forward, her eyes narrowing. "I won't be able to stop what could happen? Then what if I was there and did? Compared to me not being there. An extra person couldn't hurt!"

He sighed, a heavy exhale that echoed through the forest. "An extra person could hurt, you could get hurt." Emphasising on the you as he stared at Eden with urgency in his tone.

Eden's frustration bubbled over, and she gestured emphatically. "Why aren't you getting what I'm saying? I want to be there in case you get hurt, please Jacob, just listen to me."

"I'm listening and I'm not agreeing with you." Jacob's eyes flashed with irritation as he replied and crossed his arms together.

Eden scoffed, her laughter devoid of humour. "You don't agree with me? Fine, I don't agree with you either. I'm fighting and you can't do anything. God, it's like your way or nothing!"

His voice rose, matching the intensity of the argument. "You're not fighting and that's final. I just want you to be safe."

Eden shook her head, her frustration reaching its peak. "You don't want me to get hurt, and I don't want you to get hurt. But it's better if I'm there, is that too much to ask?"

The forest fell silent for a moment, the weight of her words hanging in the air. It's as if the trees stopped swaying and the animals stopped breathing. Jacob looked away, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "I don't know what you want from me, Eden."

Tears welled up in her eyes, her voice softer now. "I just want you to listen to me, I'm fighting and there's nothing you could do about it."

The words lingered in the forest, a sobering realisation of the possibility of what could happen. Underneath the blaring sun, the once familiar space seemed foreign, a battleground for emotions left unspoken. Leaving space for the actual battle that would occur in a matter of few days.
