how can we live forever
when our love can never be

B E L L A HAD SOMEHOW CONVINCED EDEN to ride with Alice and Edward to school, despite it being quite awkward. They may live together and sit together at lunch, it was easy to avoid making eye contact or have conversations, however in a small car it was entirely a different case. Edward was driving, so Eden held the seat belt tightly and gave her rare prayer to any high being out there. Her eyes would accidentally share eye contact with Edward's golden ones through the rear view mirror and each time it would end up with him awkwardly coughing and Eden pretending to listen in the conversation between Bella and Alice.

Eden suddenly felt a shift in the air, noticing Edward had his hands clenched tight on the steering wheel, his knuckles straining in an effort not to snap it into pieces. His eyes were narrowing at something which caused the girls to straighten up.

"Promise me you two will stay in the car," Edward asked sternly making Bella and Eden curiosity rise. She then recognized the way his eyes were glazed- he was listening to a conversation. She grew even more confused, wondering why Edward was acting so strange, who was he hiding she wondered?

"That depends," Bella answered carefully as they pulled into the school parking lot, her brown eyes narrowing at Edward. Her plump lips were pursed in a straight line. Eden was growing impatient, she brought her fingers to her pouty lips and began to bite them. It was a bad habit when she was nervous, impatient or bored... it was a bad habit she had in general.

"I was afraid you would say that," Edward replied, still eyeing something that the two girls couldn't see, his posture was stiff and he seemed to be panicking. The girls' questions probably weren't helping the current situation.

"What's happening? Why do we have to stay in the car?" Eden demanded, her eyebrows furrowed together in confusion as she pursed her lips, she was really confused and Eden hated being confused, she preferred knowing what's happening and why but right now she didn't know any of that and frustration was eating her up. He quickly looked into her eyes in surprise. She hadn't talked to him in weeks and it was a surprise for both of them.

"Nothing's happening," Edward replied, knowing it was a dumb reply. Edward wasn't sure she could handle it if she found out, to which the were-coyote let out a growl. She didn't like being kept in the dark. Eden attempted to look out the window but Edward quickly grabbed her arm before she could even move. She felt her anger rise, how dare he lay his hands on her. She felt her claws slowly come out as she grabbed his hand, blood seeping out before she harshly pulled his cold hands away from her arm. Eden let out a disgusted noise and rubbed where his hands laid, as if he was a bug she smacked away. He rolled his eyes at her childish behaviour to which she stuck her tongue at him.

"What do you want me-us, to do, Edward?" Bella snapped, she was confused and she didn't want to be in the car for too long. Surprisingly, the human had her rare moments to which she actually cared about school.

"I want youse to stay in the car," Edward said, pulling into his usual spot and turned the engine off as he continued. "I want you to wait here until I come back for youse."

"But why?" Eden questioned, clenching her fists. She was officially annoyed and she was ready to show Edward that.

"Oh." Bella said quietly, following her gaze Eden let out a small gasp, he was hard to miss, towering over the students who stayed clear from him despite the calm look on his face. It was as if he noticed her looking at him, their eyes quickly met and unconsciously his lips parted making Eden's eyes narrow. She missed those lips. She missed his presence. They hadn't talked in so long- scratch that, they hadn't seen each other in so long and it showed. His hair was ruffled and his eye bags were worse then ever, his usually smooth lips were chapped, but somehow he still managed to look handsome. Standing tall, with no care in the world.

She also began to notice her classmates staring at Jacob, eyes wide as they took in all six foot seven inches of Jacob's beautiful long muscled body. She saw eyes staring hungrily at his tight black t-shirt and the urge to rip their eyes out and shove it into their throats became hard to ignore. Edward gave her a glare, knowing exactly what she was thinking before he looked at Bella, his gaze softening.

"You jumped to the wrong conclusion last night," Edward murmured. "He asked about school because he knew Eden would be there. He was looking for a safe place to talk to her. A pla-" Edward was saying before Eden suddenly cut him off.

"Wait what? He called you about me?" She whispered shouted, her eyes wide and her heart beating rapidly. She was planning on visiting him but not this soon, it's way too soon. She had to prepare herself, she may not be mad at him anymore but she wasn't sure as to what excuse or reason why she had ignored him. She couldn't even think of what she would say to him without smashing their lips together and having the best makeout, "i'm sorry for ignoring your love letters and leaving you alone to save my cousin, knowing damn well you'd be in physical pain if I do so" session.

"Like I said, he called Bella last night asking about you, wondering if you were coming to school and if you were coming with us." Edward explained, his eyes flickering towards Jacob who was leaning against his motorcycle with a glare on his face as he stared at Edward.

"I'm not staying in the car." Eden announced, she knew she had to see Jacob and discuss things with him, despite her practically shitting her pants. At this point, she's officially won the worst imprint award.

"Same!" Bella agreed, determined to try and fix Jacob's and Eden's relationship. The were-coyote knew the human genuinely believed it was her fault it crumbled in the first place and guilt ate her up everyday. Eden reached for Bella's hand and gave it a light squeeze, as if to say, "it's not your fault", to which the human gave it a hard squeeze, "yes it's my fault and you know it".

Edward groaned, rolling his eyes. "Fine. Let's just get this over with."

Eden got out of the car, biting her lips nervously. She noticed the stares people were giving her and quickly put the cold bitch face on. She hated the kids here and she especially hated it when they started rumors. She didn't want to continue her high school years spending time with these gossiping idiots when she could be spending the rest of it with her imprint.

The three walked towards Jacob but stopped a few yards away, Edward didn't like having Bella near a werewolf and he especially didn't like having Eden near a werewolf who had broken her heart. He had his moments when his protective side over his cousin came out, admittedly it was rare.

"You could've called us." Edward said coldly, sneering at Jacob. Eden stared at Jacob, it felt like forever since she had seen him and goddammit she missed him so fucking much. It was as if Edward never even spoke a word to him, his eyes focusing only on Eden, who wouldn't look at him. He let out a pained sigh before giving Edward a glance.

"Sorry," Jacob replied back, now glaring at the male vampire. " I don't have any leeches on my speed dial."

Eden wished she could give him a high five for that shady comment, but all she could do is let out a giggle to which she disguised as a cough when Edward gritted his teeth at her. She missed him and his hate towards her cousin so fucking much. She wished she could go give him a hug and make up for all the moments they spent away from each other.

"I already know what you came to say," Edward reminded Jacob, his voice low. "Message delivered. Consider us warned."

"I didn't come here for that but thank you for reminding me." Jacob snapped, glaring at Edward.

"Warned?" Bella questioned blankly. " What are you talking about?"

Eden finally took her gaze off Jacob and glanced at Edward who was staring at Bella with worry.

"You didn't tell them?" Jacob asked in disbelief, his eyes widening. "What, were you afraid she'd take our side?"

Eden grew even more confused, she didn't know who he was talking about, her or Bella?

"Please drop it, Jacob" Edward warned, he was trying to hide it from Eden and Bella. He wasn't sure how they would react and he didn't want to find out.

"Jacob, what's happening?" Eden spoke, her eyes focused on him. She felt like slapping herself for those words being the first sentence she said to him however the look on his face told her everything. His mouth opened slighting and it seemed as though Jacob suddenly forgot how to breath. It was clear he hadn't heard Eden voice in what felt like thousands of years.

"Jake?" Eden breathed out, she has never called Jacob that and she hated it that she called him that now, why now? why couldn't have been last year when she was in love with him and not because she wanted to know one of the many things her cousin has been hiding from her.

"I-I guess he didn't tell you's that his big uh brother crossed the line Saturday night?" He stuttered, blinking multiple times due to feeling like he was staring at something holy. He then flickered his gaze to Edward. "Paul was totally justified in-"

"It was a no-man's land!" Edward hissed, clenching his fists and glaring at Jacob. Eden frowned, they hadn't mentioned anything about anyone crossing nor border, but it made sense as to why they all returned angry from their trip.

"Was not!" Jacob fumed, hands trembling. He knew if he didn't calm down he could shift so he shook his head and sucked in two deep lungfuls of air and sniffed the air, hoping Eden's scent would calm him down- to which it did.

"E-Emmet and Paul?" Eden muttered, Emmet has made her feel so much better and it hurt her knowing he fought Paul. As much as she loved Paul, Eden knew Paul was the most violent one in the Quileute pack. The memory of the grey wolf snarling was still vivid in Eden's mind.

"What happened? Were they fighting?" Bella questioned, her voice strained higher in panic. " Why? Did Paul get hurt?"

"No one fought," Edward comforted Bella, glancing at Eden who looked worried but Edward could only focus at one person at a time. "No one got hurt. Don't be anxious."

"You didn't tell them anything at all, did you? Is that why you took Beller away? So she wouldn't know that-?" Jacob was saying before the vampire cut him off cut him off.

"Leave now." Edward growled, he glares at Jacob with vicious, unveiled loathing which scared Bella but Eden only rolled her eyes. She was used to Edwards dramatic ways.

"Why haven't you told them? Why haven't you informed Eden?" Jacob questioned, raising his eyebrows. She also wondered the same thing, she gave Edward the hardest, meanest glare she could muster at the moment and instead of bringing what she hoped to be tears and pain, he simply rolled his eyes at her. Something the vampire was doing a lot lately.

It seemed as though Bella had finally connected the dots as she had let out an audible gasp.

"She came back for me." Bella gulped out, fear lacing her voice. Edward then held Bella tight to his side, "It's fine," he whispered to her. "It's fine. I'll never let her get close to you, it's fine." The were-coyote let out a scoff, Edward could promise sweet nothing about how much he could protect the human, but they all knew it was just sweet nothings. Victoria was determined to what Bella, and that cold blooded vampire does not back down.

"Does that answer your question, mongrel?" Edward said, glaring at Jacob. Eden let out a small chuckle at Edward's choice of insult. It seems that spending time with his teenaged lover did nothing, still using popular insults from back before he was bitten.

"You don't think Bella has the right to know?" Jacob challenged, smirking to Edward. "It's her life."

"Why should she be frightened when she was never in danger?" Edward said quietly, making sure no human heard.

"Better frightened than lied to."

Eden frowned, she wondered why Jacob was being a little shit. What was the point of this? And when the fuck was she going to talk to him?

Those thoughts were circling around Eden's mind making her frown turn into a scowl.

"The principle's on his way to discourage loitering on the school property," Edward announced to Eden and Bella. "Let's go to English, Bella, so you're not involved- and Eden, go to your class, do not talk to him."

Eden rolled her eyes, she opened her mouth to tell him that he isn't her boss and for him to shut the fuck up before she makes him but Jacob interrupted her.

"Overprotective, isn't he?" Jacob said, giving her a small hesitant smile before shifting his gaze to Bella, his smile gone and now serious. "I might- no, I know I was wrong before, you know, about not being able to be friends. Maybe we could manage it, or not if Eden doesn't like it."

Eden's eyes widened, she was surprised Jacob had even said that. She then glared at him. Why she glared? She wasn't sure, but it seemed as though Eden's brain has decided she's a dumb bitch, who likes to a be a bitch to her soulmate that would drop everything for her. Again, worst soulmate award goes to Eden Cullen.

"We still have to talk." Eden said to Jacob, her eyes narrowing at him. Before Jacob could reply a teacher who Eden wasn't bothered to memorize the name of popped up.

"Ah, Mr. Cullen. Do we have a problem here?"

"Not at all, Mr. Greene. We were just on our way to class." Edward said, faking a smile.

"Are you a new student here?" The teacher said, eyeing Jacob with distaste.

"Nope." Jacob said, a smirk on his broad lips, it seemed as though he was happy his imprint wanted to talk him, and not ignore him like she did with his letters.

"Then I suggest you remove yourself from school property at once, young man before I call the police.

"Yes, sir," Jacob said before doing a military salute and climbed onto his bike.

"Jake! U-um talk to you later, yeah?" Eden said with a small smile. Jacob's smirk turned into a grin, he finally felt complete. He nodded at Eden and winked at her before he drove off. Somehow, despite barely sharing any words between each other, months of despair and sorrow between the two slowly diminished. The unsaid agreement between the two that they should fix whatever happened between the two made Eden's toes tingle in excitement. This was the first time in months she had felt emotions aside from wanting to disappear forever.

"You're not seeing him" Edward growled after the annoying teacher left. He grabbed Eden's arm roughly, it wasn't hard enough to leave a print nor was it hard enough that it let Eden know he meant no harm by it, but still rage grew inside of her.

"go suck a di-"
