5. Ordinary People

Melissa

Me and Rebekah head over to the school after our girls night of talking and drinking our way through the Salvatore's wine cellar. I probably owe them like 3 bottles now, but whatever.

We get there and Rebekah is heading over to the cheerleaders and I sit on one of the benches near her. After a while, Doppelbitch comes over to Rebekah; why does she want to talk to Bekah? I decide to listen in on the conversation.

"You. Goody." Rebekah says to her.

"I was hoping we could talk."

"About what? Stefan? Don't worry I'm off him until he starts treating me better. In fact, you should probably take a page out of my book, if I'm being honest."

Elena holds up a picture of Rebekah's name in Runic. "Actually I rather talk about this. I'm curious why you and Klaus have spent a thousand years running from your father." I decide to walk over to them after hearing that.

"I should get back to the girls. Homecoming is right around the corner."

"Well, maybe I'll ask Mikeal when we wake him"

Rebekah turned around and I got up asked her "Why is she asking about Mikeal?"

"I have no idea." She turns to Elena "You're bluffing, you don't know where he is. No one does."

"So, then who's rotting in that old cemetery in Charlotte." What is she up and what does it have to do with Mikeal?

"If you wake Mikeal, we're all doomed."

"So then, tell me."

"Why do you want to know?"

"Why don't you want me wake him?"

"I need to get back to the girls." Rebekah walks away and I followed behind her.

"What was that all about?" I ask her.

"I have no idea." She says to me and goes back to cheerleading practice. I play games on my phone and wait since I have nothing else to do. Once she finished, we headed back to Salvatores and no one was home.

"Why do you think she was asking about Mikeal?" I asked her.

"I don't know but there is only way to find out." Rebekah takes her phone out of her pocket and texts her to come over.

"Is it really necessary? I mean we could always just torture her to find out information." I got myself a drink from the table behind the couch and sat down on the couch. She gives me a  look, I mean I really don't like the Doppelbitch Elena.

"No, we can't she is used to make hybrids."

"We wouldn't be killing her, it's just a little torturing." I chuckled and Rebekah just continued to stare at me like I'm crazy.

"No, we're not torturing her."

"Come on, we would heal her afterwards." I pouted and she gave a stern look "Okay, I probably wouldn't but come on."

"No and that is final." She said sternly to me. I knocked my head back into the couch and sighed.

"I want to have some fun and this town is boring."

"We can have fun but can't deal with Elena." She then went to another room and came back near the couch. She had three glasses of Champagne in her hand.

"Come on in, girls." She called out and four girls in nice dresses came out. One was in purple, another was in green, one is in blue and the last one in red. She handed me a glass which I definitely took, I gulped it down in one go. Rebekah looks at me with  a strange expression.

"What? I going to need this if I'm seeing the Doppelbitch." She smirked at me and Elena walked into the door. "Oh, goody the Doppelbitch is here." I smiled and she glared at me but I didn't care.

"Hey! What's up?" Rebekah said surprisingly very cheery.

"You invited me over? To talk?" She said.

"All right girls, have at it....Okay now twirl." The four girls turned around in a circle and stopped behind the couch.

"You compelled yourself your own private runway show?" Elena questioned.

"I need a homecoming dress. So, what do you think? Pick one."

"I'm not here to help you shop. I'm here to talk about why you don't want me to wake Mikeal." Rebekah ran to one of the girls and grabs their neck and is about to fed on her. "I said, Pick one, Elena."

"The...Red one." Rebekah let the girl's neck go.

"There, it wasn't that hard, was it?" Rebekah said, she turned to the girls. "Go away, remember nothing." The girls leave the room. "You do not threaten me. You'll learn what I allow you to learn, is that clear?"

Rebekah walks into Stefan's room, me and Elena follow. She sits on the bed and starts to go through his stuff. "How fun is this?" Bekah says to me and I laugh.

"We shouldn't be in here." Elena says looking around the room nervously.

"Of course, we should. Come on, like you never wanted to snoop." Rebekah holds up a pair of Stefan's underwear. "Boxer briefs, a lot has changed since the twenties."

She continues to look at all of his stuff. Elena says "Are you going to root through his stuff all day or are you going to start to tell me your story?" She questioned and Rebekah got up.

"You're right, Melissa. She really is no fun."

"I told you so, Bekah."

"Okay, then what do want to know?"

"Elijah said your father was a landowner in Europe. How did you guys end up here?" Elena asked.

Rebekah continues to go throw Stefan's stuff and says "My parents just started a family, when a plague struck their homeland. They lost a child. They wanted to escape and protect their future family from the same fate."

"So, how did you end up here? This part of the world hadn't even been discovered yet."

Bekah chuckled "Not by anyone in your history books, but my mother knew a witch, Ayana. She heard from the spirits of a mystical land where everyone was healthy. Blessed by the gifts of speed and strength, that led my family here, where we lived among theses people."

"The werewolves?" She questioned.

"To us, they were just our neighbors. My family lived in peace with them for over 20 years. During which time, my family had more children including me." She smiled.

"You make it sound so normal." Elena said shocked.

"It was." She sighed.

"Once a month, our family retreated into caves beneath our village. The wolves would howl through the night and by the morning we'd return to our home." She took a deep breath "One full month, Klaus and our youngest brother Henrik snuck out to watch the men turn into beasts. That was forbidden and Henrik payed the price."

Tears begin to well in her eyes "And that was one of the last moments my family had together as humans."

Elena's phone begins to ring and Rebekah is snapped out of the memories. "You better get that. That'll be Damon checking up on you." She leaves the room to take the call.

Bekah is lying on the bed; reading Stefan's diary. "Did you get your fill of snooping yet? And can we get on with the story?" Elena says obviously annoyed by Rebekah's actions.

Bekah walks over to the table, She picks up a picture of him and Elena. "Honestly, I don't get you two as a couple."

"Why would you? You don't know anything about who he really is?"

"We know exactly who he is. He's a vampire, we're a predatory species." I said to her and Rebekah walks toward Elena "We don't have time to care about humans and their silly little lives."

"Is that why you did that runway show earlier because you don't care about homecoming dance...You know what, I'm just going to go." Elena begins to walk out of the room.

Rebekah pouted "You haven't even heard half of the story."

"And you're not going to tell it. You're just bored and looking for someone to push around...Find someone else to play with." Elena begins to walk out of the room.

"The necklace wasn't Stefan's to give. It belonged to the Original witch."

Elena turned around "The one who put the hybrid curse on Klaus?"

"Not just the hybrid curse. She's the one who turned us into vampires."

Flashback to the 10th century

Mikael and Esther are talking to the witch, Ayanna, in a room where torches are lit. "Please Ayanna! I implore you! You must call upon the spirits before the next full moon" Mikael asked her.

"I will not! It is a crime against nature." Ayanna said sternly.

"Ayanna, we already lost too much. We cannot lose any more...The spirits can help us find a way to protect our children."

Flashback ended

"I'm thirsty. Do you want a drink?" Rebekah said causally. Me and her walked down to the library and Elena followed closely behind.

"So, vampirism was a form of protection?" She questioned. Rebekah said to her "What else would it be?"

"A curse?"

"My parents saw it as a way of keeping their family alive."

"Yeah, but why stay. If they were so afraid of the werewolves? Why not...leave?" Elena said, I was kinda of wondering the same thing.

"Pride...My father didn't want to run anymore. He wanted to fight and be superior to the wolves. Where they could bite, we had to bite harder. Where they had speed, we had to be faster. Agility, strength, senses.. "

Flashback to the 10th century

Mikael and Esther continue to talk Ayanna. "Everything could be heightened, our family could live forever." Mikael said to Ayanna.

Ayanna said "At what cost? This magic you speak of breeds consequence. This is the making of a plague, Esther. The spirits will turn on you."

"Please Ayanna." Esther begged.

"I will have no part in it." Ayanna walked out of the room.

"If She will not protect our family... then it is in your hands alone, my love." Mikael said while holding Esther's hand.

Flashback ended

"In her hands? How could She do anything." Elena asked.

"Because my mother was also a witch."

"What?!?" Elena said. Wow, does this girl know how to put the pieces together?

"The witch of the Original family. The Original witch." We walk into the libary. Rebekah is searching through the shelves "Where do they keep their best vintage?"

"But if your mother was a witch, then..."Elena asked.

"Am I? No, a witch is nature's servant, a vampire is an abomination of nature. You can be one or the other, never both. Melissa here is the rare exception to that rule, rather a loophole in a nature."

"Wait What?" Elena said confusedly.

"I'm a vampire and witch, didn't your friend Bonnie tell you?" I said to her, She confused and curious.

"No. How is this possible?" She asked.

"That is another story for another time." I smirked at her and she continued to look very curious at this fact.

"How did you turn?" She asked Rebekah.

"She called upon the sun for life, and the ancient white oak tree, one of nature's eternal objects, for immorality. That night, our father offered us wine laced with blood. And then he drove his sword through our hearts." Rebekah said.

"He killed you?" Elena said obviously surprised by this fact.

"And he wasn't delicate about it either." She takes a bottle of wine, breaks the neck off and throws it in the fire place.

Flashback to 10th century

Rebekah and Klaus just woke up from being stabbed. They had blood on their clothes. "Rebekah" Klaus calls out to her.

Rebekah gasped "Blood. What happened?" She touched her nightgown where she was stabbed.

"You will be alright, We will all be alright." Klaus says to her. Mikael walks in the room with girl.

"What are you doing?" Klaus said confusedly.

"We must finish what we started." Mikael said as he pushed the girl in front of them. "You have to drink if you want to live." He cuts the girl's wrist.

"Drink!" He tells Rebekah, She hesitates "Drink!". Klaus tries to stop him but Mikael pushes him back. Rebekah starts to drink the blood, he tells her to drink more and She does. Veins started to appear around her eyes as She did.

Flashback ended

"It was euphoric! The feeling of power was indescribable, but the witch Ayanna was right about the consequences. The spirits turned on us and nature fought back. For strength, there would be a weakness. The sun became our enemy. It keep us indoor for weeks. And though my mother found a solution, there were other problems. Neighbors who opened their homes to us could now keep us out. Flowers at the base of the white oak tree burned and prevented compulsion. And the spell decreed that the tree that gave us life could also take it away...so we burned it to the ground. But the darkest consequence was something my parents never anticipated... the hunger. Blood had made us reborn and it was blood that we craved above all else. We could not control it...And with that, the predatory species was born." Rebekah said.

Elena asked "Why did Mikael start hunting Klaus?"

"When Nik made his first human kill, it triggered his werewolf gene. With that, he became my father's greatest shame."

"Yeah, Elijah told me this part of the story. Your mother had an affair with one of the werewolf villagers. Klaus wasn't his son."

"She tried to make it right, she put the hybrid curse on Nik to suppress his werewolf side and then she turned her back on him. But Mikael's greatest weakness as a human was his pride, As a vampire, that was magnified. He went on a rampage and killed half the village. Then he came home and killed her."

Elena looked stunned "Mikael killed your mother?"

"He said she broke his heart so he would break her's. He tore it from her chest as Nik watched. Afterwards, my father took off in a rage and the rest of my family scattered. Nik stayed, so he could help me bury her. He knew I had to say goodbye to my mother."

Flashback to the 10th century

Klaus and Rebekah are burying their mother. When they finished, they stood side by side by the grave. "I know you think she hated you but she did not. She was just afraid. I'm sorry she turned her back on you, I will never do that."

Elijah walks up and joins them "Nor will I."

"We will stick together as one. Always and Forever." Rebekah said as they held hands in a circle around the grave.

Flashback ended

"Always and Forever... even though he locked you in a coffin for 90 years." Elena questioned.

"We're vampires, our emotions are heightened. I'm stubborn, Elijah's moral and Nik... Nik has no tolerance for those who disappoint him. Over a thousands years as a family, we've all made the mistake at least once. I've made it several times." Rebekah said.

"I have as well, Bekah." I look over at her and put my hand on her shoulder.

"But you still love him?!?"

"He's my brother and I'm immortal. Should I spend eternity alone instead?" Rebekah said, then she turned angry "You've heard the story, it's time to go. I said leave, Elena! I don't know what you're up to but I'm no longer playing along."

"I'm just looking for one good reason why we shouldn't wake Mikael." Elena said. Is this Doppelbitch really trying to get her neck snap?

"And I've given you thousands, but you will anyway. I know you want him to help you kill my brother, I'm not stupid."

"It's no secret I want Klaus dead. He has a hold over Stefan's life and over mine."

"Do what you need. Wake Mikael at your own peril. But make no mistake if you come after my brother, I will rip you apart. And I get my temper from father. Now leave!" Rebekah yelled at Elena and Elena walked out the door.

"Well that was quite a scene." I smirked at Rebekah, she glared at me.

"Don't start with me, okay." She walked over to the table and grabbed her some Scotch. We sat down on the couch. "You were right, inviting her here was a bad idea."

"I told you we should have just tortured the information out of her." I drank some Scotch and Bekah chuckled at me.

"Yeah you're right...Do you really think they are going to wake Mikael?" She asked me.

"It would definitely be a bad move, but they don't seem like the brightest people. I'm just really worried about Nik."

"Me too, I mean last time Mikael came around he practically destroyed New Orleans just trying to get to him."

"I mean Mikael has came after him a million times but he's never had help." Rebekah starts to stare at me. "What?" I questioned.

"Why are you so worried about him? I mean out of everyone in this town you're the only one that would have a reason to want him dead. I mean he had you running for six centuries and I still can't believe you forgave him for that."

"Me either but he's family and I spent enough my time being angry at him. It's really just a waste of energy, I could be doing so many other things than that. I'm just glad to be back with you guys again."

Elena walked into the room, she had some photos in her hand. I really didn't care to look at them, I really just want her to leave. I was having a nice time talking to Bekah before she showed up. "I thought we told you to leave, twice."

"How do you know that Mikael killed your mother?" She asked Rebekah.

"Nik was there. He told me."

"He lied to you."

"And how do you know that?"

She puts the photos on the table "The cave where you carved your family's names is covered in symbols. The story of your family, how your parents arrived, how they made peace, the spell that turned them into vampires, and this. This is the symbol for hybrid. It's a combination of the werewolf and the vampire symbol. And this is the one for your mother."

"Her necklace." Rebekah said. What is Elena up to? Why is she showing us this?

"This is the story of her death. The hybrid killed the Original witch. Not Mikael, Klaus."

"No! No, he wouldn't." Rebekah starts to shake her head in disagreement.

"She put a curse on him, made it so he was the only one of this kind and then she rejected him. With the werewolf gene come aggression and violence... when he turned, all of that was heightened. He killed her, Rebekah and then he made up this entire lie about your father so he wouldn't lose you."

"These mean nothing! They're just stupid drawings, done by stupid people who had no idea who my family was." Rebekah said as she grabbed the photos and threw them in the fireplace.

"Then why are you so upset?" Is this girl really that stupid? You just told Rebekah that her brother killed her mother, why wouldn't she be upset?

"Why are you doing this to me? I've done nothing to you."

"Klaus killed your mother. He has a hold on you, on me, on everyone. He has for thousands years. We have to make it stop!"

Rebekah grabs Elena's neck and her vampire face comes on. "Shut up! Shut up! Don't talk anymore! Nothing!" She yelled at Elena. She slowly let's go of her neck and her face turns back to normal. She drops to the floor on her knees and starts crying. I go down and comfort her. Elena stands there looking guilty, which she should.

"Elena, leave." I say to her and she still stands there.

"I didn't mean to..." I interrupt her and say "Yes, you did Elena. So please, don't try to deny it. Now leave." I start to raise my voice.

"I was just telling her the truth."

"Elena, I don't care. Just leave!" My voice gets louder.

"But I was..." I interrupt her and now I am yelling. "I said just leave! Now Elena!" She then leaves the house and my attention returned back to Rebekah. I hugged her as she sat there and cried through the rest of the night.

I hope everyone enjoyed this chapter. My chapters kept on deleting which is why I haven't posted in a while. Well, anyway hope you enjoyed.
