Melissa

I was sitting in Elijah's study with him and Klaus; trying to figure out what Esther could do next. All this led to was a heated debate on what actions we should take against her without coming to any solution at all. I sat there reading Esther's grimore that me and Bekah got from that witch coven a couple days ago, hoping it would give me some idea on what she could be up to now but nothing.

There was a few diary entries between the pages of spell like things about her past life. She was totally different back then: she was nice and had compassion; two things she doesn't have now. Time changes people; I should know. I continued my reading; then out of nowhere, Klaus asked "Melissa, what do you think we should do?"

I really don't get how they are coming with solutions when we don't how this could play out. Sometimes guys are so stupid. "We should figure out what's she's planning before doing anything."

"We already know what's she's planning: She wants us dead." He said back. For the strongest being on the planet, you think he would think out of the box more often. I mean he's usually always ten steps ahead.

"But we don't know how. You of all people should know not to think so narrow minded." I pointed out.

"Niklaus. Perhaps, Melissa is right. The how is a very important. Mother is a powerful witch nor is she as dim witted as you are sometimes, brother." Elijah said which made me slightly chuckle.

"Exactly which is why we should think about what options she has at her disposal." I closed my book as I joined their discussion.

"She doesn't have the white oak." Elijah said.

"But there's White oak right here in town, she could easily get her hands on it." Klaus replied.

"She doesn't have the help of Bennett bloodline anymore." Elijah said.

"She could still channel another witch; even without another witch's help, she's powerful enough on her own but she can't kill you all." I said.

"Instead she linked us together and is going to kill Finn to get rid of all of us." Klaus said finishing my sentence.

"She has already attempted this plan once." Elijah said.

"But she isn't in town anymore. We have no idea where she could hiding right now. She could be half way across the world and we wouldn't even know it." I said frustratingly.

Elijah changed the subject and asked "Has my mother's grimore been any help to you?"

"I thought it would be especially helpful with everything me and Rebekah went through to get it but nothing." I rested my head on the neck of the chair.

"Maybe it would help if a fresh pair of eyes took a look at it. Maybe I could get a different perspective." Elijah said: I got out of my chair and handed the grimore to him.

"Here you go: hope you have a better luck with it than I did. That grimore is giving me a headache." I left Elijah's study and went into the kitchen for drink. I opened a cabinet and grabbed a bottle of Bourbon. I shut the cabinet and I felt someone's hands wrap around my waist. It only took me a second to figure out who it was.

"Darling, isn't it a bit early to have a drink?" Kol whispered in my ear and chuckled. I turned towards him and playfully hit his arm.

"Shut up, it's never to early for a drink. Do you want one?" I asked.

"Sure." I got two glasses for us and started to pour the drinks. "Has my mother's grimore been any help?"

"No, I can't find anything to help us. I gave it to Elijah, so a fresh pair of eyes could look at it." I sat down next to him at the table.

"I think you're forgetting that you have access to one of the best witch libraries around....me." Kol said being his cocky self.

"How could I forget? Could you help me out?"

"Of course, I am especially curious to what things she has in there."

"Who wouldn't be? Esther is one of the most powerful witches. She's the Original Witch and she's a bitch, but a legendary one." I took a sip of drink.

Kol chuckled "You are the only person I know who would call my mother a bitch. It's such a spectacle."

"Like I told Bekah, I'm not holding back when it comes to this." I said putting the drinks on the table; each of us grabbing a drink and taking a sip.

"That is one of the many things I love about you: you're honest, a little brutally at times; That's something I need in my life." He said.

"Like when: you're back to your crazy shenanigans, or when you don't listen to Rebekah, or when" Kol interrupted.

"Okay, I get it. I screw up a lot."

"Not on the important stuff."

"Like us." Kol pulled me into his lap as I threw my arms comfortably around his shoulders.

"Exactly. That's what I love about you." I said to him. "You're always there for me when I need you."

"And don't forget it." He pushes his lips up against mine and I immediately responded back. I ran my hands through his hair as he pulled me closer to him until there wasn't any room between us.

"Look at this, what a sight." Klaus interrupted, making Kol roll his eyes at him.

"Thank you for the interruption, brother but if you didn't notice, we were in the middle of something."

"That's exactly why I came unless you wanted Rebekah walking in and taking pictures." We all chuckled at such a ridiculous but somewhat accurate scenario.

"As much as I would want to disagree with you, I can't. You know she's always asking for daily updates on our relationship." I said, thinking back to the last couple of days.

"Why am I not surprised? Is that what you yelling at her about the other day?" Kol asked.

"No, I was talking about taking down your mother. I already yelled at her about the relationship updates on our road trip to find the grimore. Which hasn't helped us at all."

"You still couldn't figure out anything?" Klaus said.

"Nothing! I gave it to Elijah. Kol said he will look at it later."

Rebekah walks quickly into the kitchen. "Melissa, I have been looking for you. We have to go." She walks over to me and starts pulling my arm.

"Where are we going by the way? Just curious as to why you're pulling me." I pointed out with her tightly holding my arm, pulling me towards the entrance of the kitchen.

"We have a meeting with Mayor Lockwood. We need to find out where the white oak is." I sighed.

"But why do I need to be there?" I questioned.

"Because the Mayor likes you. I need to make sure things go smoothly." She said which is very true. Me and Carol have quite the little friendship brewing, an equal partnership; I give her generous donations for any event or fundraising she is hosting, and she doesn't try to kill me or my family. She actually quite a nice person, I have grown to like her.

"Alright, but I have to come back after to help Elijah."

"You don't think my brothers can come up with a solution without us, do you?"

"No, I don't. Also I promised Elijah."

"Don't worry. This won't take long." She walked out of the kitchen and went towards the door. I gave Kol a quick peck on the cheek before waving bye to him and Klaus as I followed Rebekah out the door.

We entered the Mystic Grill to see Mayor Lockwood sitting at a round table in the center of the building, waiting for us. "Rebekah and Melissa, so nice to see you." She said as we took our seats.

"Likewise, Carol. You look great." I replied.

Once we got settled, Rebekah said "Thank you for meeting with us, Mayor. I figured as head of the Preservation Society, you'd be a good person to ask about the oldest trees in this community."

"A long line of Lockwood women use to keep those records, back before any of them had actual jobs." Carol said.

"I've been to the Founder's archive, but I can't seem to find any record of the tree I'm looking for."

"It probably got cut down. Big old trees built half of this town in the 1900's."

As Bekah and the Mayor continued to discuss old trees, I noticed that the Salvatores walked in. I haven't seen since they tried to kill the Mikaelsons. Not even a day after me and Damon made a truce, he tries to kill the most important people in my life. Bekah notices as well when Damon says "She-Devil at nine o'clock." They lock eyes for a moment before continuing on with their day.

"Do you happen to know who kept the milling ledgers during that period?"

"Back then all the lodging mills were owned by the Salvatores."

"Thank you for your time, Mayor Lockwood. It has been a pleasure." Rebekah said as we got ready to leave.

"Your welcome. I hope I have been of help to you. Don't be a stranger, Melissa. I would to have you over again."

"I'll be sure to come by soon." I said to Carol before she left. I saw Rebekah's attention fall on the Salvatores. I moved closer to her with my arm resting on table before saying. "I know exactly what you are thinking, Bekah."

"And what is that?" She questioned.

"You're going to become the Salvatore's new best friend to get that milling ledger and find the white oak tree. Good plan except for the fact that they don't trust you." I smiled at the fact that I got it right when her slight smile turned into an adorable frown.

"Are you always this pessemtic or do you enjoy ruining my plans?"

I chuckled at her comment. "I'm just saying it would be easier to steal it than having them give it to you out of the kindness of their heart."

"You can leave and get back to my brothers now. I can handle it from here." She sounded slightly upset that I may leave.

"I know you can, but I'm not going to miss seeing how this plays out." I smirked at her, causing her to laugh. We got up and walked towards the Salvatores.

"So, Zachariah Salvatore was your nephew?" Rebekah asked as if she been in the conversation the whole time or eavesdropping which is more likely.

"Well, our father knocked up one of the maids during the Civil War, she had a son. But as far as everyone else knew, Stefan and I were dead. Family name had to go somewhere." Damon said.

"And your family owned the logging mills back then?"

"You're full of a lot of questions."

"I'm just researching the town history. I grew up here after all."

"You know you don't have to disguise your true motives, Blondie Bex. If you want more sex, just ask for it." Me and Bekah just laughed at his ridiculous assumption.

"Not enough liquor in the world." She poured herself a drink.

"I need one too." I grabbed the bottle from her, pouring myself some.

"Oh, come on, it was too good for you to be this hostile." Damon said which made me laugh even more. Stefan grabbed the bottle sitting between Damon and Rebekah, and sat back in his seat, looking all moody. "You'll have to excuse my little brother, he jonesing for some O positive."

"I'm not jonesing." Stefan said.

Rebekah changed the subject back to the killer. "So, did they ever catch the killer?"

"Nope. Wrote it all off on vampires." Damon said.

"Maybe it was a vampire."

"Yeah, maybe it was a vampire, Damon." I could tell Stefan was thinking it was him when he said that.

"Don't think for a second you didn't cross my mind too, brother. But these murders weren't your style, were they? Plus there were no other vampires circulating then." Damon said.

"Well, there was one other vampire. Remember Sage?" It''s been a long time since I've seen her, I wonder what she is up to now.

"Ohh, right, Sage. Speaking of great sex." Damon grabbed the bottle of whiskey, drinking it straight from the bottle.

"I knew a Sage once. Trashy little thing." Rebekah said.

"You really think it was Sage who was killing all those Founders back then?" Damon looked over to Stefan as he asked.

"Town questioned ever grown man in Mystic Falls. Probably never occurred to them that a women could have done it." Stefan said which was a great point. Men are always underestimating women, that's how they get their asses kicked.

Rebekah grabbed the remaining whiskey "So, tell me more about your old relatives. I heard they tore down half the woods to build this town."

Bartender gave us another bottle. Rebekah goes to grab it, but Damon gets to it first. "Easy there, lushy pants. It's been a hoot and a half but it's boy's night and you weren't invented." Damon and Stefan walked over to the dart board with two glasses and the bottle of whiskey.

"This seems like the perfect place to cut this adventure short. Let's go." I said to Bekah, but she was still looking over at the Salvatores.

"We still don't know where the white oak is." She said.

"And they don't seem to want to talk to us anymore, so let's leave it alone for today." I got a call on my phone; It is Elijah.

Melissa: Have you found anything in the grimore?

Elijah: I haven't seen anything on an unlinking spell so far. All I've seen are random spells mixed with diary enteries from my mother.

Melissa: When you're finished, give it it to Kol. He's our best chance at finding this spell.

I stopped what I was going to say when I saw Rebekah walking towards the Salvatores again. This girl just doesn't quit. "Elijah, I'll meet you at home." I hung up the phone and chased after her "Bekah! Just wait."

"You know your friend never gives up." Damon had a slight smirk written on his face.

"I'm well aware, Damon. We were just on our way out." I grabbed her hand and tried to leave, but she stood still.

"You can go back. I'm staying here. I know my brothers are waiting for you." She released herself from my grip.

"Off to your boy toy I see." Damon said to me which made me turn in his direction and glare.

"He's my boyfriend, not my boy toy." I said with the slightest annoyance growing in my tone.

"I wouldn't know the difference. It seems like you run the show and he's your lapdog." That comment made me little frustrated, so if he wants to play it this way, so can I.

I cocked my head to the side before saying "Well, it takes one to know one, Damon. Or have you gotten so use to following Elena around like a little puppy? Don't want to upset her or she'll ditch your ass and run back to Stefan." I pulled a smirk on my face when I saw his reaction.

"You always were the Queen of Comebacks." He sighed in defeat.

"Then you should stop acting like an ass, Damon. Bekah, don't get into trouble and I'll see you at home." I waved before vamp speeding my way back home. I walked in to see Elijah still reading the grimore. "What have you found so far?"

"Nothing much, but I did find this spell." He opens up the grimore to that page. The spell is something I've never seen before; I recognize parts of it from other spells.

"I've never seen anything like this, Elijah." I was surprised with being alive as long as I have, there's not much that you haven't seen. I called out to the best witch library I know "Kol!" He walked downstairs into Elijah's study. "Elijah found this spell, but I've never seen it before." I handed the grimore over to him as he took a sit next to Elijah. He examined the spell closely.

"It's a spell my mother had in one of her first grimores. It's very old magic, back from her time. She used it for simply locating house items but at its full capacity, it can locate spells she's created."

"Like the unlinking spell. Quick. Hand me the grimore." I grabbed the grimore from him and started the spell. I focused closely on the unlinking spell. A grimore flew out of the bookshelf and onto the table, the pages kept on turning until landed on the page containing the unlinking spell. "Oh my god! We did it." I yelled with excitement in my voice.

"What do we need for the spell?" Elijah asked.

"We need the blood of all the Originals." The excitement in my voice slowly started to fade once I realized what this meant. "We have to find Finn." I started walking in a circle with my hand on my head in frustration. Rebekah and Klaus walked into the study, Nik from the living room and Bekah from the front door.

"Is she okay?" Bekah asked.

"No, I'm not. We found the unlinking spell."

Klaus interrupted me by saying "And that's a problem?"

"You didn't let me finish. We need the blood of all the Originals, including Finn. What if he's with Esther? How are we going to get him then?"

"We can handle my mother, Melissa. At least long enough to get his blood." Rebekah said.

"We have to find them first. They could be half way across the world by now."

"Just do a locator spell, it's that simple." Rebekah pointed out which made me sigh.

"Lots of witches have put cloaking spells on them to keep them from being tracked. I highly doubt that she wouldn't put one on herself and Finn considering she tried to kill us." I explained to them.

"You're powerful enough to override the spell, right?" Klaus and the others looked a little worried when I didn't answer immediately.

"Normally, I would say yes but I never dealt with a witch of your mother's caliber."

"All you can do is try." Elijah said before I went a grabbed a world map, a bowl, and candles from my room.

"I just need some of your blood." Each original took the knife I gave them, spilling their blood into the bowl. "In normal to do the worldwide locator spell, I would just need the blood from one relative. Since we are dealing with your mother, I need a strong connection encase she tries anything." After saying that, I spread the map over the table along with the candles. Once everyone's blood was in the bowl, I placed it on the map and started the spell. "Le six ce strul no cruv. Le six ce strul no cruv. Le six ce strul no cruv."

I focused closely on trying to find Finn's location but every time I got close to getting any information, my concentration was wiped. "I knew it. Esther is blocking my spell, she knows we're onto her."

"Can you overpower her spell?" Klaus asked.

"I just need some time. She is using a power and energy based cloaking spell. It's more powerful than a regular cloaking spell, but if her power or energy starts to weaken, the spell won't be active. She can only keep the spell at full power for so long, being human and all. When she lets her guard, I'll be ready." I assured everyone that I am fully capable of completing the task.

"We'll let you get to work. Let us know if you need anything." Elijah said before him, Rebekah, and Klaus went upstairs to their rooms, and Kol went into the kitchen. I regained my focus and started the spell again.

After a couple of hours, I think I am finally getting somewhere. Esther is starting to let her guard up, considering it's 3:00am and she's human. "Let's try this one more time.  Le six ce strul no cruv. Le six ce strul no cruv. Le six ce strul no cruv." I start to focus in on Finn's location. I disregard everything that Esther is doing to disrupt my concentration and get a location somewhere in the Western Hemisphere. As I start to get closer and closer to a precise location, I felt blood dripping from my nose.

"What the hell?" I whispered to myself. The bones in my wrist started to break as if it was a signal that I was getting too close. I screamed as I fell to the ground, gripping my hands onto the table.

Kol ran in the study after hearing all of the noise. "Are you okay?" He asked while helping me up, holding my back to keep me up right.

"I guess I was getting to close to Finn's location and she was trying to throw me off. I'll be fine." I wiped the blood from nose and fixed the materials for the spell.

He grabbed my arm, turning me towards him. "My mother is onto you. Why don't you take a break? Come back to it tomorrow."

"I can't. I have to finish this." I got out of his release and returned my attention to the materials on the table.

"It can wait one day."

"No, it can't. Do you know how much can happen in one day? She is growing stronger and stronger by the day" I raised my voice which seemed to raise some questions to Kol, considering his concerned expression.

"Come on, sit down. What is this really about?" He led me over to the couch where he held tightly onto my hand.

"It's just that your mother knows I'm trying to find Finn. What if she tries something? In the past, I've never really worried about any of you dying. Only the few times when Mikael found us but that's it, and now there is a real actually chance I could lose you all forever. If there's something I can do stop that from happening, I'm going to do it, without hesitation." A few tears started to build up in my eyes, but I tried my best to not let them out.

"No one has ever fought for me and my siblings the way you do, darling. We would do the same for you, but I don't want you overworking yourself. Okay. I love you and I don't want anything happening to you." After he said that, I wasn't able to keep in the tears any longer.

"I love you too. Now, stop talking so I can stop crying." I chuckled while wiping the tears from the eyes.

"Why don't you go upstairs and rest."

"Can we stay here if you don't mind."

"I don't mind. Come here." He held his arms open for me to lay on his chest. He wrapped his arms around me, holding me close. I layed my head on his chest with a smile on my face. Even though I was still worried about how everything could play out, at least know that someone has my back.

I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. I am publishing another one right after this one to make up for how bad I have been with updating this story. I am truly sorry for making you all wait. School over the past year has been especially stressful and draining. I just haven't had the time to write along with my major writer's block for this story, but I'm over that now. I will try to post more regularly but don't quote me on that. This story has 46.7K reads, I can't believe it. Thank you for supporting this book. Love you all!
