Chapter 12

*Jades POV*

"Well shit." I cursed and let the reality of what had just happened sink in. I looked at Liam. He was looking at me with disgust and disappointment. The jealous bitch had been revealed. If he liked me before then he'd almost certainly gone off me after that.

"You bet 'well shit'." He replied. I hated seeing that look on his face. He's Liam, he's not supposed to get mad. Then again, I wasn't supposed to think the wrong thing, get jealous and flirt with my best friends crush either.

"A birthday party...?" I questioned. It still didn't make sense. I never let Cat make a fuss and she never did, no matter how much she begged me, I would squash the plans flat. No one would ever help because they knew I'd make them regret it.

"Yes. a birthday party. What else did you think she was doing?" He just looked kind of sad now, and I don't know which is worse. Sad or angry.

"I... I don't know. I just..." I put my hand against my forehead and sighed.

"I think you do Jade." It was then. That moment. The moment my heart stopped beating. I died.

No, I'm just kidding. But it felt like it. "Jade, do you maybe... Like me?" He looked like he was scared to ask. I opened my mouth for words to come out, and when they didn't I closed it again. This happened a few times. I was speechless. For the first time in my life, I was speechless.

"I have to go and find Cat..." I mumbled and ran towards the elevators.

****************

Half an our later, I still hadn't found Cat and I was starting to panic. I decided to give up. If Cat wanted to be found, I would have seen her by now. I ran a hand through my hair and chose to go back to our room and wait for her there.

I was so stressed, and my neck and shoulders were aching. I needed a shower. Or something. I'd probably be better off having a bath because they're supposedly more relaxing, but I don't really like the idea of sitting in my own dirt. This was supposed to be a time for relaxation. Come to think of it, I haven't seen my parents since we got here, and it was supposed to be a family vacation. In fact, I haven't even seen them around the building...

I grabbed my wash bag from my bedside cabinet and went into the bathroom. There was Cat. Sat in the bathtub. As you do. It was empty at least.

"Oh my God Cat! There you are I've been looking all over for you!" I proved exactly how much I loved my best friend. I've never really worried about anyone in my whole life, not ever. It's such a horrible feeling, I think I'll have to put a stop to it. Plus, I can't be nice to people, at least not after I get home.

I went over to Cat and opened my arms to hug her, but she flinched away from me. I froze. Cat had never refused a hug from anyone before, especially me because I don't let her hug me very often. "Cat, what's wrong?" She opened her mouth, then closed it again and shook her head. "Cat, we can't fix this if you don't tell me what's wrong." I mean, the only thing I could think of was me flirting with Niall, but surely that wouldn't hurt her this much.

That couldn't be the cause of this, could it? I don't have that much power over Cat surely. Then again, she's always been a sensitive little thing."Cat, this isn't about earlier, is it? Because if it is I'm really sorry! Not that I'm not sorry anyway, but I am sorry!" Cat looked up at me, her eyes brimming with tears.

"Just- w-why?"

"I don't know Cat, I really don't." Yes you do. I really hate my subconscious right now. "Ok, ok," I put my hand on my forehead and then ran it through my hair. "I guess I was jealous but only because I saw-"

"It's ok Jadey. I forgive you. I get it. I'm sorry too. You weren't supposed to see us talking." She gave me a sad smile. "How about that hug?" I laughed and held my arms out to her and she latched onto me.

"Just a small question Cat?" She froze. I had to stay serious. "Why a bath?" Cat pulled away from me and looked completely serious.

"Because when we were in Yerba, that foreign man did it, so I thought I'd try." We looked at each other for a minute. Then we both burst out laughing. "That guy was also a hobo Cat!" This was what I loved about Cat, but it was also why people didn't understand how close we were. I could see why, because we were complete polar opposites, we don't match. At the same time, we're perfect together. We first met in school and she was being teased, and for some reason I felt the need to protect her so I stepped in. We've been almost like sisters ever since.

I don't treat her any differently to anyone else unless we're alone, I just tone the insults down a bit. Whenever I do something mean to Cat, like when I shoved cereal in her mouth to shut her up, or I yell at her, she doesn't get upset like she normally would, because she knows that I don't really mean it.

We stand up for each other when stuff happens like when our acting teacher Sikowitz went through a faze of throwing balls at people while they were doing acting scenes. He got Cat in the face during our scene, and I got really angry at him. We always work together. If we get to choose our own groups to perform improvised scenes I always choose Cat, so that now if I'm chosen to lead the group she stands up automatically before I've even said her name. She can say stupid things and I won't even make a big deal out of it and laugh and call her names like anyone else, like when I posted about our dissection from biology:

Jade: I took home my dissected frog from science class. I named him "Gutsy"

Cat: I would have named him Hopper!

Jade: Uh, maybe six months ago that name would have been better, Cat.

So yeah, she irritates me, obviously, but not as much as she should. We make exceptions for each other all the time, especially when it came to Beck. You've obviously seen how protective I was of Beck (I mean, who hasn't?), but when he was partnered with Cat for a stage fighting project, I didn't even think twice about it.

"One more thing Cat." She was looking at me, all innocently and happy that it was all sorted again.

"A surprise party? Really?" I smirked at her, and she gave me a cheeky smirk before scrambling out of the bath and running out of the room. I laughed and jumped up and hopped out of the bath, because somehow I ended up in the bath with her.

I was chasing her down the halls, earning stares and disapproving looks from middle-aged wrinklies, including my own parents. They looked shocked. I don't think they've seen me laughing at something that's not causing someone else physical pain or humiliation since... Ever.

The pool area was in sight as Cat pulled a face at me and ran in. I put on a burst of speed. Cat made a beeline for Anna and the boys. I followed her as fast as I could. I blinked, and one moment Cat was there, the next she was on the floor. It looks like she slipped on one of Louis' many spilled ice-creams. This was the last thing I thought before I slipped on exactly the same spot. I ended up on top of her laughing like I never had before. I was happy. I was no longer that girl who people called a "gank" or a "crabby kathy".

At least not here, with this group of friends, because lets face it. At school, no one likes Trina, I only tolerate Robbie, Tori's not my friend, and I broke up with Beck. And the thing is, most of the time Cat's basically a pet.

"Uhh, does this happen a lot?" Anna looked shocked. Harry put his hand on her shoulder and I knew what would happen.

"You get used to it!" And there it is. It used to creep me out when they spoke simultaneously, but like they said, you get used to it. Liam had this weird look on his face as Cat and I used each other as crutches to stand up, still laughing. "The only thing I can't get used to is seeing Jade smiling and laughing..." Louis joked. I didn't even snap at him, I just rolled my eyes. I saw Niall looking at me, and Cat looking at Niall.

I caught Cats eye. She'd seen it as well, and she looked sort of pained. "Actually, I think Cat and I are going to hang out alone today."

"This has been great Jade, and you know what would be a great way to end it? Looking through your old bitter status updates on The Slap!" I shrugged and loaded the website up on my phone. My posts couldn't have been that bad. I found my first post.

Jade: Isn't it awesome that my boyfriend joined TheSlap and never told me?

Cat: No way!!! What a jerk! No offense, Beck, I think you're awesome.

Beck: Thanks, Cat. Jade, I joined two hours ago.

Jade: Yeah, exactly. TWO HOURS!!!

Wow, never realized I was that controlling... No wonder people were scared of me.

Jade: Mustard is disgusting. Also, if you wear pink, I really don't like you

Cat: I wear pink and I eat mustard. Do you hate me? Please say no.

Jade: You have no idea the hatred I feel for most people.

Cat: Phew. At least I'm not most people. I'm Cat.

There are times I'm grateful for her stupidity.

Jade: Do you think an orange is named after the color or the fruit? If you even thought about that for 2 seconds, you're stupider than I thought.

Jade: Sometimes I think that I'm having fun and then I realize I'm not

Jade: Got a haircut today. Didn't even hurt. Such a waste of time.

Jade: This is a crisis. My day's completely ruined. just found out that "killing me softly" is a really sweet song

Jade: Today is my birthday. I know I said I hate birthdays... but I just meant everyone else's. Not mine. Mine's cool.

Tori: Happy Birthday!

Jade: Don't patronize me.

Tori: Sorry, sheesh!

Jade: Starring in a movie where my character is "clueless." I've been studying Cat for years so I think I can pull it off.

Cat: Glad I could help!

I knew was difficult but not quite that intense. I love it. Guess I'm not completely changed after all. I love these status' so much. "Oh Jade, how come you're so mean? I'm always so nice to people."

"Yeah, but you're always confused. Like remember Halloween the year before last year? You even got confused when I spoke to you about it last year."

Cat: What should I be for Halloween?

Jade: Be a cat. You'll be less confused.

Cat: I don't get it.

Jade: A cat. Since your name is CAT! You won't forget what you are, like you did last year.

Cat: Oooooh, I get it now! Yeah last year was confusing, I was a fox and people kept calling me CAT!

She's so weird but I love her. "Hey Kitten, should we-" Her phone alarm went off. " She looked at it and her facial expression changed. "Uhh, I need to, um, go." I frowned at her like 'whaaat?' and she floundered trying to think of an excuse.

"You're going to meet Liam about my party again, aren't you?" She nodded sheepishly. Then Cat reassured me she'd be back soon and that they wouldn't go overboard on the party arrangements. I let her hug me then she left.

*Nialls POV*

Liam left a while ago so I thought that I'd go and see what he was up to. I got out of the lift and headed towards Liam and Jade's rooms. I was getting my phone out to text Li, and looked up to check I wasn't going to bump into anyone and fall on my Kim-Kardashian-esque ass.

I immediately wished I hadn't. I saw Cat go into Liam's room, and I felt the anger settle in my stomach, but I didn't even know why. I liked Jade and she liked me so I didn't get the problem. Without realizing I had walked straight past Liam's room and was knocking on Jades door.

*Jades POV*

Ugh I wonder what she's forgotten now. "It's open, come in!" I really couldn't be bothered to open the door, I was trying to find my book of famous unsolved murders. It was somewhere in my suitcase under my bed, so naturally I was facing away from the door.

"So Cat, what did you forget? And also have you seen my book, I last saw it-" The next thing I knew I had hands on my shoulders and someone else's lips crushed against mine. At first I was stunned, and just stood there. Remember, I had thought it was Cat, which was now obvious, Cat they were not.

To be perfectly honest, I don't know why I did it. I guess I missed Beck, I mean we were dating for 2 years. I had missed someone touching me that way. It doesn't mean I'm proud that I kissed him back, I didn't even realize I was doing it. My instincts took over my whole body. I was that out of it, I didn't even hear the cheery "Ding Dong!". However, I did hear the squeak, so similar to the one I heard not too long ago.

I finally pulled away and opened my eyes to see Cat in the doorway, looking the exact same way she did when Tori kissed Daniel after spraying hot cheese on her. He was too close, so it took my eyes a minute to focus. When my eyes did their job I gasped.
