chapter 32 || finding and entering

We spent the next couple of hours driving in the middle of nowhere. Jorge had warned us that if the tunnel was infected, the rest of the city was most likely infected aswell. I was nervous, but I did sign myself up for this.

"Unless they've found some other way to keep them out" Newt said aloud, bringing me out of my trance.

I looked at the window to see a city. It was high tech, with blue lights and tall buildings. But it was surrounded by a large circular wall?

Jorge pulled over so we could get a better look of the city and so we could stretch. My legs ached from not being able to stretch out for hours.

I walked over to newt, who stared intently at the city, his blond hair flying in the wind. I stood next to him, resting my chin on his shoulder. He looked down at me briefly, before staring back at the city.

"Funny... spent three years trapped behind walls, trying to break out. And now, we wanna break back in." He said to me as he let out a small laugh.

"Yeah, it's bloody hilarious" I replied, mocking  his british accent. He looked down at me as I looked up to him, our eyes only focusing on eachother. I smiled before walking back over to the truck, leaving Newt to look at the horizon.

"Jorge, how do we get in?" Thomas asked as he went to talk to Newt.

"Don't look at me, hermano. Those walls are new" Jorge responded simply.

"I guess walls are Wickeds answer to everything" I spoke up.

I sat near a rock, listening to Newt and Thomas talk. I didn't hear much, but I heard enough. It was rude of me to eavesdrop, but I couldn't help it.

"... I don't know if I like.." Newt's voice wavered.

"... you should tell he-" Thomas' voice also wavered.

"You really think he's in there?" Newt asked Thomas, worry lacing his voice.

"I guess we'll find out" Thomas responded.

"You know she's going to be in there aswell?" I asked the boys as I walked up from behind. Their eyes shot at me, probably wondering how long I'd been there. Thomas only nodded at me.

We began walking through a smaller city on the outskirts of the Last City. Everyone there was screaming chants and cries as they held up posters, protesting for something. I couldn't even read their posters. I kept my hood up, trying to avoid gazes, while Newt held onto my arm, making sure I wasn't left behind.

A man sat on the top of a truck, shouting through a megaphone as we all cleared a path for the car. Guards of sorts were also settled onto the truck, their faces covered. One looked at me, a little too long for my liking though. We followed the car through the crowd, revealing a part in the stone wall that was opened. The same man stood at the front of this crowd, now protesting.

"They hide behind their walls, thinking they can keep the cure for themselves!" He shouted.

"Let us in!" The people yelled. Wicked guards stood on the wall, staring straight down at us.

"Shuck! We have to go!" I informed Newt, pointing up to the guards.

"That's it, that's our way in!" Thomas said happily as he began walking towards the large opening.

"Thomas!" I yelled as I tried grabbing onto the boy as he began filing through the crowd. I began walking behind him hurriedly.

"Y/N! Come back here!" Newt yelled from behind me. I ignored his calls, continuing to follow Thomas.

"All of these people are trying to find a way in, do you think you're really going to find something they haven't?" I asked the brunette as I met up with him at the front of the group of people.

Thomas never answered, instead, he looked up towards the walls, Wicked guards staring straight at us, bombs and guns in their hands.

"Thomas... This doesn't feel right" I said to the boy uneasily. The same group of guards before began to walk closer to us, making my eyes flicker.

"Thomas, let's go!" Newt said from behind as he began grabbing at mine and Thomas' arms. I looked towards the Wicked guards once again, seeing one of them holding out their guns.

One shot was fired, making the floor shake, and more and more began pouring down on us, sending off explosions around us. I began sprinting with Thomas and Newt, only to be shoved to the floor. Step after step, my eyes began to grow heavy with how hard I was being stepped on. Before I knew it, I was gone.

"Where is she? Where is she?" I heard, stirring me awake. My eyes adjusted to my surroundings. I was a van of some sort.

I was grabbed roughly by my arm as I was thrown out of the van onto the floor. I was in a parking garage. There were still muffled cries of 'where is she' whoever she is.

"Oh my bloody god, Y/N!" I heard Newt's voice shout as his feet quickly ran towards me. He engulfed me in a hug, picking me up from the floor.

"Newt" I breathed, as my head was in the crook of his neck. He held me tightly, as if I was going to run away if he let go.

"I'm so glad you're okay. I thought I lost you" He said to me.

A cough came from Thomas as me and Newt quickly let each other go, walking towards Thomas, Fry, and Brenda, all of them having a small smirk on their face.

Thomas turned tense and defensive as the same guard we saw on the truck came back into view, his face still covered with a mask. They had also finally pulled Jorge off of one of the other guards.

"Everyone, relax. We're all on the same side here" The masked guard said to us. I glared at him, I was knocked out earlier, but I wasn't dumb. These shanks just kidnapped us.

"What do you mean?" Thomas sneered. "Who the hell are you?"

The man looked from me, then to Thomas, hesitating before taking off his mask. I couldn't believe it...
