28| Moving On

Emily Rose
1 month later

Sweat dripped down my brow whilst the sun beamed steadily against my forehead. The box weighed down on my arms as I shuffled toward the U-Haul parked outside my old wedding planner building.

"Here, I got it." Tristan, Cameron's supposed boyfriend grabbed the box from my arms and walked over to the truck, which was almost filled to the brim with the stuff from my old house with Tomas.

After Tomas got out of the hospital, he was put on trial. Almost instantly, he ratted out all of the loan shark's names. Unfortunately for him, that didn't save him from the fact that he took money from his job, which led him to go to state prison for 3 years.

Frederick's case was closed and the house that we've shared wasn't a crime scene anymore, but then the bank hit us with foreclosure and they had reposed the home.

I wasn't sad at all when that happened and if I was truthful, I didn't even want to be there anymore. All those memories didn't help anyone. Thank God, Camara let me stay at her place for a while.

I knew I couldn't stay there forever and I wanted to keep Parker's promise. I was going to leave this stuck old town and go somewhere else; do something new.

And the opportunity dropped right into my lap when an old college friend of mine, who lives in California, called me and told me about a new apartment she'd gotten and how she needed a couple of roommates.
I couldn't help but jump at the chance. I told her about my situation and she told me that she has a room waiting just for me.

I wipe my forehead with the back of my hand and curse myself for picking this hot-ass day to move.

"Shit," Cameron growls to herself as she fits another box into the U-Haul. Her chocolate hair was pulled right into a bun, a pair of loose shorts and tank top hung from her body. She fanned herself off with her hand before flashing a smile at me and walking back into the shop.

After our fallout, I could see Cameron's trying her best to get back on my good side again. I tried to thank her for helping me move but she shook it off, saying how her helping me move and driving me there was what she needed to do. She didn't want me driving the whole 16 hours by myself and said she'd take a plane back home after the trip.

I didn't have a problem driving alone but I figured that talking about what happened with Cameron without anyone there would be good closure for myself.

"That's all," Tristan announced as he grabbed the white rag off of the hood of the truck and wiped his head with it.

Cameron dusted herself off, "that's awesome."

I nodded in agreement before peering at the building the used to be mine.

"Hey Em," Cameron asked and I hummed in acknowledgment, "what's happening to this place?"

"It's Camara's now; I put it in her name. Now she can do whatever she wants with this." I gestured towards the building before turning my attention to Cameron. "You ready to go?"

She rubbed the back of her neck before making a 'tsk' sound, "Yeah, let's get outta here."

"I'm up with that plan," Tristan agreed, his piercing blue eyes gazed at Cameron.

Well, look at that, I thought before shaking my head.

I'm leaving; there's no time for drama.

After deciding to just go back to Cameron's place to sleep, Tristan shut the back door of the large truck and we all hopped in before drove off.

Cameron woke me up at around dawn and we began getting ready for our trip. Tristan slept peacefully in her bed as we moved silently through her studio apartment, uncertainly stormed through me as I ran through a mental checklist in my head:

Blankets? Check.

Headphones? Check.

Book? Check.

Phone? Check.

If I had everything I needed then why did I feel like I was missing something?

"Em, what are you doing? Come on, we gotta go." Cameron whispered as she stared at me as if I'd grown two heads before she slipped out of the front door.

"Okay," I said and instantly I remembered what I was missing.

I sped over to Cameron's side table next to her couch, where I slept and picked up the letter with my name on it. Immediately the sickening feeling had disappeared and a sense of security fell over me.

I smiled to myself as I slipped out of the front door, just as Cameron had and strolled over to the truck before getting inside.

Cameron was checking her rearview mirrors when I asked, "um, shouldn't have we locked the door?"

"Tristan has the key." She flashed me a smile before glancing at the letter that sat in my lap. "What's that?" She pointed a well-manicured finger at it.

"Something I'm supposed to read," I answered cryptically as I buckled myself in.

"Okay," she shrugged before starting the car. "Let's go."

Cameron set the GPS before backing out of the parking spot.

"Turn right," the GPS beeped. I ignored it before plugging my headphones into my phone. I put the earbuds into my ears before opening my phone and selecting a song to drown out any sounds for now.

Holding my breath, I delicately pick up the letter in my lap. The crinkled pieces of paper seemed to be stuck to each other for a second before I pulled them apart.

I released a heavy breath as I began to read the nice handwriting.

Dear Emily Rose Shivers, ...

Hey guys!

THERE WILL BE AN EPILOGUE!

Let me repeat...

THERE WILL BE AN EPILOGUE!

I try not to consider the epilogue as a numbered chapter of any book. To me, it's a closing of a story. That's why the number is "one".

The next chapter will be posted at around 8:30am or 9:00am.

Also after the next chapter, I'll talk about my next book, so just a heads up.

Anyways, I hope you liked Chapter 28 of The Love That Is Parker Bowmen.
