10| A New Normal

Emily Rose

"Are you ready to go?" Cameron asked me as she stood in the doorway of Tomas' hospital.

I nod, daring not to speak.

After a week of staying in this shitty hospital room, I can to the striking conclusion that I can't keep staying here, waiting for Tomas to wake up.

It's not healthy for me and he'll sure be pissed when he wakes up and realizes that I've spent most of my days and nights in here, instead of running my business and living.

Cameron's eyes slip towards Tomas' laying body. She stares at him for a second before drawing her attention back towards me and giving me a sad smile. "Okay, then let's go.

I take one last look at my fiancé and blow him a kiss before we leave the room.

Cameron and I walk side by side as we walk towards the hospital's front doors.

I take a quick glance at the familiar waiting room, that used to be filled with a crowd of people all worried for Tomas and his safety, was now near empty.

That's the thing about people, the only time they'll actually care is when you're being born or dying. Otherwise that they'll leave and you'll probably near see them again.

My heart begins to pain as I began to think of Parker.

Right after I heard his conversation with Colton, Parker disappeared, not showing up for six days.

A couple days ago, while I was going to the bathroom, I overheard Cameron and Colton talking about him.

"Dumbass, he's such a dumbass." Cameron whispers, her voice coming off cruel and harsh.

"Calm down, okay? I know he'll show up sometime." Colton said calmly.

"It's been 4 days, Colton! 4! It hasn't been this bad since he disappeared on us the first time." Cameron scoffed.

"Maybe he's taking some air—," Colton tried to say but Cameron quickly cut him off.

"Why the fuck are you defending my dumbshit brother, I thought he hated him."

"I-I don't know what I think Cameron. Last time I checked, everything was happy and Parker was the bad guy. Now I'm not so sure..." Colton's voice drawls out, pensively.

Cameron let's out a small and frustrated groan. "Ugh, I can't deal with this."

"I know," Colton agrees before saying, "do you think he would leave just after getting Emmie to himself."

Cameron let out a mirthless laugh, "God, my brother's so fucked up, I thought I would know him more," she sighs, "I just hope this isn't part of one of his calculated plans."

There's a pause of silence.

"Fuck," Colton curses, "let us pray not."

"Emily? Emily?" Cameron's voice calls out to me and I jump.

"Y-yeah?"

"I asked you a question." She looks towards me for a second before furrowing her eyebrows.

"Oh sorry," I shake my head and let out a fake laugh, "got caught in my thoughts."

"I can tell," she nods as we reach the front doors.

Cameron grabs into the door handle and is about to open the door when my name is called out.

"EMILY ROSE? EMILY ROSE SHIVERS?"

I draw away from the doors and walk towards the sound.

"Yes? I'm Emily Shivers." I answer the person's voice and man turns around and walks towards me.

Wearing a white, nice and clean t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans walks a man with the most gorgeous grey eyes I've ever seen.

The man stops in-front of me. His light brown hair is swept up nicely and stays out of his face.

"Emily Rose, I presume?" He asks, his voice accented.

I bet, he's English.

"Yes, I'm am and you are?" I ask him looking hunk up and down.

"Oh, sorry," he lets out a small laugh before continuing. "Hello, my name is Jayson Arnold and I run the newly formed Aroman's International Car Insurance or AICI." Jayson says, his smile grows.

"Okay... nice to meet you. What did you want to talk to me about?" I ask him.

"So, I already talked to his parents about this but they directed me towards you," Jayson pauses before continuing, "Ms. Shivers, are you aware that your fiancé signed onto AICI a couple days before his accident?"

My mind blanks.

"Uh... I'm sorry, say that again?" My voice shakes and Jayson repeats but this time his voice is the last thing on my mind.

I'm pretty sure, Tomas would have told me that he switched his car insurance. At least, I think he would?

And how could this happen right before his car accident? I ask myself.

Maybe this is a coincidence?

"Are okay with that?" Jayson said as I broke away from my trance.

"I'm sorry?" I shake my head and run my fingers through my hair.

Jayson clears his throat.

"Well I tried to say that-," Jayson's is then interrupted by a familiar voice.

"Jayson?" Parker asks.

"Parker." Cameron sneers at her brother as he walks through the front door.

Parker ignores his sister and walks towards Jayson.

I can see Parker watching me out of the corner of his eyes.

"Oh, Parker, my good friend. How are you?" Jayson asks, happily as he and Parker do a quick handshake that transforms into a short hug.

"I'm good," Parker answers before stepping back. "What are you doing here?" He asks.

"Tomas McCoy signed onto ACIC and I'm here to tell them about our insurance plan." Jayson tells Parker calmly and Parker nods his head.

"Wait, wait, wait. I'm fucking lost." Cameron waves her arms around in a stopping motion. "Okay, pause. How do you two," she gestures a hand between the two men, "know each other?"

"Jayson and I went to college together. A couple years ago, we met up again and decided to start a company together since we are already in the business." Parker answers.

"What company?" I ask. My curiosity getting the best of me.

"Aroman's International Car Insurance," Parker answers.

I stare at Parker for a while.

Okay, maybe this isn't such a coincidence...

"You can go home now you know?" Camara said as she appeared in the doorway of my office. "I can close."

"Can't, gotta work on Harry and Wendy's wedding." I mutter as I stare at my computer screen.

Camara mutters something that I don't catch. Then suddenly, she walks behind my rolling chair and pulls me away from my desk.

"H-hey!"

"You need to get away from that damn computer." Camara said as she stopped dragging me around my office, leaving me in the middle of the room.

"Oh, come on-," I start to complain but Camara quickly interrupts me.

"Oh, hell no! Don't you go making some stupid ass excuse in order to work," Camara appears in front of me with her hands on her hips, "it's 6 o'clock, you need to go home. Sleep, eat, something!" She yells at me before gagging, "'cause fuck! You stink!"

My cheeks began to burn.

So... I haven't at home in a while.

I can't seem to do anything when I'm there, it brings back too many memories, but I'm not going to tell Camara that.

"You know I'm your boss, right?" I and Camara laughs.

"It's called 'Tough Love', Honey."

I smile at her before sighing, "okay, okay. You've got me."

"Good, now go home!" She claps her hands together, "I'll take care of everything here." She said and I thanked her.

Even though Camara is completely crazy, she comes through in the end. Staying late to help me with the workload, getting me lunch when I'm too busy or forget. She even sometimes drags me out of the house when I'm too stuck to leave.

She's the greatest.

"Okay, I'm getting up," I said I pushed myself out of the chair.

Camara grabbed my arms and helped me as I pushed myself.

"Now go!" She ordered as she plugged her nose.

I rolled my eyes, "it's not that bad." I mutter under my breath as I grabbed my purse.

"Love you!" She yelled out as I walked out of my office.

"Yeah, yeah, love you too."

*****

I couldn't sleep.

I've been up what it seems like forever.

After getting home, I took a well deserved shower and made me a sandwich. I ate the sandwich then I was lost. I didn't know what to do.

It was as if I was stuck, so I decided to watch some t.v and guess what?

Fucking pointless.

My mind kept dragging towards the memories of where Tomas and I sat down on the couch and binged multiple shows until our brains fell out.

So then I decide to do the next best thing; sleep.

How's that working out for me?

Well, it's 6 am and my eyes haven't felt the sweet release of reality so...

I'm living my most unwanted nightmare.

Just when I was about to get out of bed, my doorbell rings.

I mutter a curse under my breath and slip out of bed.

It's 6 am?! Who would be here?

I walk myself all the way towards the front door and open it.

"Parker?" I sat in surprise and Parker smirks.

"Hey, Emmie." Parker smirks.

My eyes study at him. Wearing a white v-neck and grey sweatpants that hang off his hips, he holds a large, blue duffel bag in his hand.

"May I come in?" He asks and being the dumbass that I am, I open the door and let him inside.

"Nice place," he comments and I nod, closing the door behind us.

"Yeah, you weren't really allowed in here last time..." I dragged on and Parker places his duffel bag on the couch before he cracks his neck.

"Yeah," he agrees before changing the subject. "So, where's my room?"

What?!

"I'm sorry?" I say, rubbing my eyes.

Maybe the sleep deprivation is getting to my head.

"My room?" Parker said again and I look dumbstruck.

That's when Parker's eyes begin to light up with mischief.

"Oh, nobody told you?"

I shake my head and Parker laughs quietly under his breath.

"Well, Emily Rose, I'm going to be staying AND taking care of you until Peter Pan decides to wake up from him short lived nap."

Wait, what?!

"I'm sorry, you're going to be doing what?" I scream and Parker looks downward, shaking his head before bringing his attention right back to me.

He takes a single step closer, almost closing the space between us before he answers. "I'm going to be staying and taking care of you,"

Electricity cracks between us as he gives me a slow and sexy smirk.

"Buckle up Polar Bear, because this is going to get a little slippery."

Hey guys!

The picture at the top is what Jayson looks like.

So back to Emily's POV. Sorry Parker can't stay long he had a couple of things to take care of...

Okay, now to questions.

Where was Parker for 6 days straight?

Does AICI have something to do with Tomas being in a coma?

Is Parker really a good guy or a bad guy?

How will Emmie react to Parker staying at her house until Tomas wakes up.

And when the hell is Tomas going to wake up?!

Anyways, I hope you liked Chapter 10 of The Love That Is Parker Bowmen.
