_____________

Tomas McCoy

The party buzzed around me like a shiver of happiness fell my body. After a whole day of studying, this was necessary. The cup of beer hung lazily in my hand as I spoke to the man beside me with purple hair. Maybe it was purple, or maybe it wasn't. The flashing party lights are blinding my vision and every word I'm saying is slurred.

"Yeah, man," he laughs cheerfully as an almost empty bottle of alcohol - whiskey, maybe? I can't remember - is placed in front of him.

I nod along to something I can't remember talking about.

"Man, life is hard." He mutters under his breath and I catch it, "Yeah, it is. What's wrong with you?" I ask.

The man sighs, I think his name is Fernando or something. "It's my sister, she has cancer and... it's getting worse every day. I put her in a good place for it - cancer, you know and the prices are kicking my ass." I nod along finally intrigued by something this man has said. He hesitates before continuing, "dude, I don't even know if I should tell you this... but I started borrowing this money, it's not clean money, no way but it's helped. Now the guys I borrowed from wants it back, and more too."

"Can you give it back?" I ponder and a mirthless laugh fell from his lips.

"Give it back? It doesn't work like that, man."

I don't know what came over me but before I knew it the words fell from my lips. "I can help you."

The man looks at me shocked. "Really?"

Aw shit, I'm in too deep. "Yeah," I nod, "how much money?"

"Thousand, that's it."

"That's it?!" I laugh, "I can just use some extra money I have left over from my parents, it's all good."

The man flashes me a smile before leaving his hand out, "I'm Frederick Dixon."

I grasp his hand and give it a firm Shake, "Tomas McCoy."

"Nice to meet you, Tomas, I think we're going to be good friends."

I smile, "me too."

*****

The stack of cash felt heavy in my coat jacket.

Where are these guys?

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and checked the time. 10:48. Fredrick told me that they would be here before 10:40. I began to believe that Fred gave me the wrong address to the wrong alleyway before the sound of gravel crunching reached my ears.

"Hello?" My mind raced as I tried my hardest to keep my voice level.

"We didn't think you were going to show, Mr. Dixon." A harsh voice sliced its ways through the ever-present silence.

"I'm not Mr. Dixon," I called out as my hand reached for the load of cash which in the pocket of the oversized coat jacket.

An airy chill brushed past my face as the mysterious man answered, curiously. "Not Mr. Dixon, huh? Well then sir, what's your name?"

I shrugged the feeling of dread off my shoulders. What's the worst that can happen?

"Tomas. Tomas McCoy, sir."

The man chuckled, "it's pretty admirable for you to take the place of a shifty man, isn't it, Tomas McCoy?" I didn't answer.

"Well since you've told me your name, I'll tell you mine. It's Devin Grapples."

With the bit of bravery I had left, I answered. "Pleasure to meet you, Devin Grapples."

Devin laughed wholeheartedly, before speaking again. "Say, Tomas, how about me and my guys treat you to a reward for being the bigger man and facing us head-on. You don't wanna be in this chill for long, do you?"

I had a feeling that this wasn't a suggestion, it was an order.

I cleared my throat. "I guess?"

Can't turn down free food, that's not how I was raised.

"Good." Devin flashed me a wicked smile before directing me towards his car and instantly my head completely forgot about Frederick and his problems.

*****

I stared at the girl of my dreams as she sat down on the back of a truck, a side can in her hand.

My phone bussed in my pocket and I resisted the urge to look at it. It might be the guys... or worst Frederick.

After throwing Frederick under the bus by giving his whereabouts to the guys, I didn't think I could take it.

It wasn't my fault, the guys were talking and they asked if I could get the money from Fred. Of course, I said yes, Frederick brought this onto himself, he should've paid the guys now, it isn't fair to them.

I glanced at my knuckles remembering the adrenaline that ran through my body as my fist constantly connected to Frederick's body; cheek, stomach, side. A bit of pride stormed inside of me as my memory overtook me.

I shook myself out of my trance before bringing it back onto the girl across the scorching bonfire with flowing dark chocolate hair which cascaded down her back, and beautiful brown eyes which you could drown in for days, no years.

Emily Rose Shivers. The girl worth millions.

Her eyes met mine as she talked to her best friend, Parker Bowmen.

Everyone knew that she had a crush on him, which. by all God irritated and confused me at the same time.

Everyone knew that what Parker was looking for wasn't long term and what Emily was looking for was.

Parker was nothing but a man looking to put his claim on any woman, and the largest under his spell was her.

My phone bussed again and I finally decided to pull it out again.

A text remained on my screen.

He escaped again, it read.

Damn Frederick.

Before I could type anything back, I peered again to see Parker stomping away from Emily angrily and Emily's eyes watching me curiously.

God, pray for me.

I texted back without even thinking.

I'm done.

I clicked the button on the right side of my phone Turing it off before thinking to myself.

I want that girl.

*****

My head bounded as I gazed at the screen of my phone.

You have 2 more days -Dev

A part of me wanted to fucking murder Devin.

After giving up the schemes with Devin, he's been more on my ass than ever. Every month the price had gotten higher. First, it was 100 dollars a month which was alright with me, but then it turned to 150, 200 and so on. It's been almost 5 years and all I wanted to do was forget.

My phone began to buss again and it was a call from my fiancée, Emily. A bright smile appeared on my face as I answered the call.

"Hey, Babe."

"Hey Hon, so I was looking at the wedding prices and..." she began to ramble excitedly and I tuned her out.

My hands reached over to my work computer at the bank and I quickly typed in my password before idly clicking onto the bank's financial accounts. Pulling up a different browser, I made my way into my savings account before transferring 1,000 dollars out of the bank's account into mine.

I whistled softly to myself as I erased all evidence of my transaction. And closing the laptop altogether.

"Tomas. Tomas? Are you even listening to me?" Emily questioned on the phone and I smiled to myself.

"Yeah, Babe, always."

*****

"Do we have a deal?"

I glared at the man in front of me whose name was Jason. His dark brown hair was jelled down, leaving not a piece out of place as was his suit. Perfect, precise, and professional.

His green eyes studied me before speaking, "you'll be doing the FBI an extreme favor."

I cleared my throat before straightening up in the limo I sat in. "So you want me to get into a car crash?"

"Yes."

"So that Devin can be caught?"

"Yes."

"And I will get paid."

"Affirmative. Every last drop you need."

"Every last drop."

I began to weigh my options in my head.

Pros.

1. Money; for you, Emily, and the future.

2. No more Devin.

3. Help the FBI.

Cons.

1. Possible danger.

"Mr. McCoy, we don't have time to ponder this any longer. Are you in this or not?" Jason asked impatiently.

I bit my lip, letting a few seconds pass by before finally answering the man.

*****

Hey guys.

Can't you believe it! 2 chapters in one day?!

Jeez, that's a lot for me sometimes.

That's was just Tomas' POV and some of his answers. We'll get Parker's next chapter.

I didn't specify who the "villain" of the chapter is but its loan sharks.

Also, I'm sorry if this chapter is rushed. I tried to make sure it sounded alright.

If you're wondering what the numbers are at the top, it's how many chapters are left till the end.

Anyways, I hope you liked Chapter 24 of The Love That Is Parker Bowmen.
