Chapter 21

Jessica's POV:

How could she do that.

Almost do that with Ross. My Ross. Not her Ross. Mine.

He's not your Ross and he could be her Ross. Actually neither. You don't own him.

What does it matter, she almost did it with him. How does she think that'd make me feel.

Nothing because I wonder why, you haven't told her you liked Ross. So what would she think, Ross is open. She wouldn't do anything with him if you told her so in other words you shouldn't even be mad.

Whatever.

Stop being a big baby on Christmas, in the dark, where someone could easily kidnap you and go home.

I don't want to see her.

Just get your sorry butt home, jeez to be stuck with you is pathetic.

~Next Day~

"Morning Jess." Sofia greets me as she heads to the kitchen.

I don't respond and continue watching TV.

"Are you seriously ignoring me? I haven't done you a thing and you're ignoring me. This is absolutely petty, you know that right?"

I don't answer.

"If you think I'm apologizing for nothing, guess again, if you don't want to talk to me go ahead. I have other friends who aren't as selfish and ridiculous as you." she said and walked upstairs. I sighed.

It's not like I didn't want her to not talk to me.

She didn't decide not to talk to you. You did.

Could you ever shut up.

Could you ever die. Kidding. Kidding. I need my job.

Aren't you suppose to have similar traits to me and not be let me but this nicely, a total witch.

Aye, language, didn't your mom raise you better than that.

You should know.

Enough of this. Sofia has a right to be upset with you for being an idiot. She did nothing wrong and you're blaming her because you like Ross but heads up, you didn't tell her that.

Stop being such a smart donkey.

I take your insults as compliments so keep them coming princess.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

"You didn't tell Sofia?" Riker asks. I shook my head. "Then why the hell are you mad?" "Because!" "Because what, Sofia doesn't know you like him."

"You're not mad about them almost doing it?" I ask.

"Of course not, why would I be it's not like I told Ross I like Sofia, I'm upset but if I knew I wanted Sofia which I do I would've told him."

"But we're best friends." I say.

"She can't read your mind Jess." he rolled his eyes. "Well what am I suppose to do?" I frown. "Talk to her." he replied in a 'duh' tone.

"I can't." "Why can't you?" "I don't know. She could be mad I guess." I looked down.

"Hey, not telling her would be even worse so it's best you get this over with now."  I nodded, "You're right, I'll go talk to her." I began to walk towards the door.

"Hey, Jess?" Riker called. I turned around, "Yeah?"

"Would you, when you're talking to her...." he stopped. "Do you want me to ask if she likes you?" I ask him.

He slowly nods.

I smiled, walking out door.

Sadly, in the hallway I came across Ross. "Hey Jessie." he gave a toothy grin. I quickly ran down the stairs and exited the Lynch house.

You're such a wuss.

Whatever.

As soon as I walked inside home, I saw Sofia on the coach watching Paper Towns. "I thought that story pissed you off." I try to ease the tension between us.

"I never said it wasn't good." she said in a monotone.

"Mind if I join you?" I ask, already going for a seat. "Obviously." she replied. I jumped up as I was ready to sit down.

"Can we talk?" I question.

"We are talking, sadly." she rolled her eyes, pausing the movie. She didn't look at me, just stared at the paused movie on the screen.

"I'm sorry I acted like how I did, you didn't deserve it." I began.

She still did't look at me. "I know I've done this before and I'm sorry." The place was still quiet. "I'm so sorry, please forgive me."

She didn't say a thing. "Sof?"

~Silence~

I gave a sigh, walking up stairs.

"Do you like him?" she asked as I was on the second step. I walked back to her, "Maybe." She eyed me. I sighed, "Yes."

"Why didn't you just tell me Jess?" "I don't know, I didn't think you'd go back to him."

"I'm not going back to him. It was in the moment. We don't like each other." she said. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.

"Not to burst your happy bubble but he did mention that things were going so well between you guys he thinks it's best that y'all be friends and nothing more."

I felt a pang of pain in my heart and I felt like I had a headache.

"Oh." was all I could muster. "Yeah, I'm sorry." she said.

"Are you still mad? Your tone is quite bland." "I'm just not in the mood Jess." "Just one more thing." I say.

She looks at me. "Do you like Riker?"

She looked taken aback and stuttered, "W-what? Um, um, n-no. No, I don't like Riker. Why would you ask that. Where did that even come from?"

I shook my head, "You kissed him yesterday."

I swear I saw a hint of blush but I'm not sure. "It was because we were under the mistletoe." she told me.

I nodded, "Okay. You could go back to Paper Towns."

She nodded.

I walked upstairs with a heavy heart and I feel sorry for Riker. How am I suppose to tell him that she doesn't like him?
