Chapter 2

*Ross and Jessica are now in middle school, they're both 13

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The doorbell rang. I hurriedly brushed my long brunette hair and grabbed my bag racing downstairs. "Bye mom." I said kissing her cheek and rushing to the door. I opened it. "Hey Shor." I panted.

"Well that's a new record Jessie, usually I'd have to wait 10 minutes." Ross teased. I shoved him playfully and rolled my eyes muttering, "Jerk." "Oh but you love me." he teased.

No kidding. Ross and I have been best friends for 8 years and I realised that I had a crush on him. Mom teased me so much about it.

"Let's go, we have to reach to school in five minutes." Ross told me. "You think you could best me today?" he challenged.

Ross and I always ran to school seeing who could beat who. Ross always beat me, but I'm positive I could beat him this time.

"Bring it Shor." I smirked. "One." he began, "Two." I continued. "Three!" Ross yelled racing off.

I ran off behind him, greeting neighbours as I went along. We almost arrived to school and I built up my speed and arrived to school before him. I cheered in victory.

Ross finaly arrived, out of breath, showing my a thumbs up. "Great job Jessie." I gave a bow. We walked into school going to my locker first. I took out the books I needed for my first three periods.

"Look who it is, the boy who's suppose to be a girl and the girl who's suppose to be a boy." I heard the familiar sickening voice of Isabella.

I rolled my eyes turning to face her. "Have you nothing better to do?" I asked. "Oh wait right, I forgot, you obviously have nothing better to do in your pathetic little life."

The students surrounding us oohed at my comment and the boys high fived me, including Ross. I smirked in victory and Isabella and her friends walked off furiously.

Ross and I then walked to his locker and he started taking out his books. "Hey Ross." I heard the flirtatious voice of Emily who rudely stepped infront of me.

She had a huge crush on Ross since the 3rd grade. "Hey Emily." Ross smiled at her. "I like how you put your hair today." Emily told him.

Is she serious? He's had that same hairstyle for so long.

"Thanks." he blushed putting his hand in his hair. Vain much? I rolled my eyes. Emily went closer to him. "I was thinking maybe you and I can catch a movie later?" she said in his ears. He was majorly blushing now, she giggled. "S-sure Emily," I felt a pang of jealousy.

"Jessie, you up for a movie later?" Ross suddenly asked me. I looked up and a small smirk tugged on my lips.

Jessica-1. Emily-0.

Emily looked shock. "I meant just you and I, alone." she said quickly, glaring daggers at me.

Ross' face turned solemn, "Oh well I'm sorry Emily, I'll have to decline. I do everything with my best friend, if she's not invited it's like you're not inviting me." he told her.

Jessica- 2. Emily- -1.

Emily groaned and marched off. "You don't know what you're missing Ross Lynch." she said.

Ross rolled his eyes and continued taking out his books.

I stared at him in awe, I can't believe he didn't want to go out with a girl he obviously liked because she didn't want me to come with them.

The bell rang. "See you at lunch Shor." I said hugging him and we walked off in different directions.

~At Lunch~

I walked outside school, waiting by the gate for Ross and our other friends. One by one, each person came. Ross being last. When he arrived I asked," What took you so long?" "Long story." he said.

We all crossed the road to the diner across our school. We went there every lunch.

We all went to our usual seats and our regular waitress, Elizabeth came with our orders. We never had to order because we got the same thing on certain days. Like on Mondays, Ross and I ate pancakes, Tuesdays, I got pizza and etc, etc. Today's Friday, so I'm gonna be eating spaghetti.

"Thanks." we all thanked her.

~After school~

I walked outside school again, waiting by the gate for Ross and our friends. Like lunch, one by one, each person came. Ross again being last. What's with him and being last. When he arrived I didn't bother asking him why he took so long.

We all crossed the road and went to Starbucks that was next to the diner.

It was my turn to order for the group so I ordered everyone's usual and brought back the tray of drinks. We all sipped a little and decided to walk with our Starbucks. So, I returned the tray and we left Starbucks. One by one, our friends left if we were close to their home. Of course Ross and I were the last ones, since we lived next to each other. But every afternoon, I went by the Lynch's then sometimes at 7 I left to have dinner at home.

Ross and I raced up his pathway and yelled good afternoons as we entered the house running to his room. We packed up the stuff we wanted in a bag and went through Ross' window to our treehouse on a ladder that Uncle Mark put up for us from Ross' window to the treehouse.

"Anything you gotta tell me?" I questioned. Sometimes Ross had to tell me something and he ended up forgetting even when the thing he had to tell me was really important. He shook his head.

We helped each other with our homework, well mainly me helping Ross with his homework. We then played games on his laptop. Afterwards we played, him singing and playing his guitar and I dancing to his singing and guitar.

"Jessica! Ross! It's 7!" Aunty Stormie yelled from the bottom of the treehouse. We groaned in unison. I have to leave now. We packed up our stuff from the treehouse and climbed back to Ross' home. I grabbed my bag and went downstairs, Ross following me. We went to the front of my house. I hugged him. "Bye Shor." "Bye Jessie." he hugged me back.

He walked back to his house stopping infront of his door. We waved and walked inside our homes at the same time.

~Next Day~

I woke up and got ready to go over to the Lynch's like I usually did on a Saturday. Today Rydel and I practice our dancing.

I quickly ate breakfast and went over and knocked on the door. But no answer. That's strange. They never said they were going out. I went back to my home and up to my room. I saw a post it o my window and took it beginning to read it. It's from Ross.

Dear Jessie,

I'm really sorry that you had to find this out this way. But, earlier this morning my family and I moved to LA,California to live so Riker and I could follow our dreams as actors and singers. I was suppose to tell you sometime this week but I forgot and I'm really sorry. Tell the others goodbye for me. I'm soo sorry I forget to tell you Jessie. I hope you'll forgive me.

Shor.

What? My best friend, my crush, is gone, almost halfway to California by now. I can't believe it. How could he forget to tell me something this important. Tears brimmed in my eyes and suddenly I bursted crying.

"Jess, I'm going for so-" "Jess what's wrong?" she asked sitting on my bed beside me. I gave her the post it and saw her facial expression change. "Oh sweetie." she hugged me tightly. "I'm so sorry." I cried into her shoulder.
