Chapter 48

Jessica's POV:

New Year's was like every other New Year's. Gathering with friends with food and drinks and seeing fireworks.

Same old same old.

Ross was upstairs working on some music and I was just sitting watching Riverdale. Don't judge me, it's freaking amazing.

My phone started ringing and I groaned, whoever's calling is interrupting a cute Jughead and Betty moment.

I glanced at the caller ID and quickly paused the show.

I looked upstairs to make sure Ross was still working on his music and I heard a few strums from his guitar.

"Hello?"

"Hello, Jessica, I'm here to give you more information about your moving here."

"Oh okay, cool."

"Well we're organizing your everything, including your financials until you can fully support yourself so you don't have to worry about that. You're getting your own apartment and car and we know you have a job at a cafe so we got you a good paying job at a cafe close to where you'd be living."

"Wow, I-I really didn't expect all these things." I was so shocked I laughed, "You're really the best. I don't see anyone topping you."

"I'm glad you're excited. If there's anything else needed to be discussed you can call us. We'll get back to you for arrangements on when exactly you'll be leaving in February to get your plane ticket and such."

I hung up, beaming.

This is probably the best opportunity I've ever had. "Who was that?"

I jumped and saw Riker standing by the door with an angry look. "What the hell Riker you scared me."

"You didn't answer the question." he walked closer.

I eyed him. "It's no one important Riker so you can take a chill pill now." He continued to prod me, "I know Ross has his moments Jess but that's no reason to cheat on him."

To..what?

I was so taken aback I couldn't speak.

He continued, "Ross is a great boyfriend to you and I have to admit that he would've been a better boyfriend to Sofia that I was. He loves you Jess and I know you love him but just because he wants to take things slow gives you no right to see another guy!"

"You're seeing another guy?" Ross' voice cracks and he looks like if he was just torn apart as he stands on the stairs.

What the what.

My mouth was ajar and I look from Riker to Ross then to Riker and back to Ross.

Ross looked so fragile as he walked down the stairs yelling at me. "How could you do this to me after everything we've been through?"

Earth to Jess. You're boyfriend is going to dump you if you don't speak right about now.

I came back to reality and yelled back, "I'm not seeing another guy! I just had a phone call from school."

Riker stared at me in confusion, "'You really are the best. I don't see anyone topping you'? Ring a bell?"

I rolled my eyes, "I was complementing the secretary. She was able to get me a schedule I could keep up with."

Ross gave a sigh of relief and looked at Riker saying, "You owe her an apology."

Riker frowned,  and stared at me, "So maybe you aren't cheating on Ross-" "I'm not." I interrupt him.

He glares at me, "-but you're hiding something. You've been acting strangely ever since Christmas and you won't admit it. But I'll find out sooner or later. The truth always comes out, even wen you didn't want it to."

And with that he walked out the door and Ross laughed, "He watches way too much movies."

He wrapped me in a hug, looking down at me. His eyebrows suddenly furrowed and he looked like he was having an inner war with himself.

He finally spoke, "If something was up, you'd tell me wouldn't you?"

I looked away for a split second then looked back and nodded.

Ross' POV:

"Hey Riker." He looked up from his phone, "Sup Ross."

"I'm planning on doing something for Jess and I need your help." He eyed me as I pulled out a box and opened it, revealing a ring.

His eyes widened, "You're gonna propose?"

"Did I hear propose?!" Rydel ran into the room and awed over the ring in Ross' hand. "That's so adorable, my baby brother is gonna propose."

I rolled my eyes, "No no. I'm not gonna propose. No yet anyway. We're too young for marriage now. I'm giving her a promise ring."

Rydel awed, "Just as cute." She turned to Ellington who was beside her, "I'm still waiting Mister."

Ellington rolled his eyes but had a small on his face as he kissed Rydel's cheek.

"Anyway, I need help on how I'm giving it to her and now I'm glad you came Rydel. I could use your expertise."

Jess' POV:

Ross was somewhere with Riker I think so I decided that I should buy some new clothes and some other little stuff for England. I don't have to buy much since LAD is literally providing everything but I still wanted to do something.

After I go to UCLA to confirm my leaving I'm going to get the stuff and some goodbye gifts for everyone.

I'm leaving soon and they'll most likely hate me after I tell them I'm leaving, especially Ross but I still care about all of them so when they get over it they'll have my gift.

My thinking is sort of harsh but it's the truth and I myself will have to get over the fact that I'm gonna lose all my friends and my first love.
