A Long Road Ahead

After passing out from the initial attack, Izaya had a brief moment where his body felt cold before he felt an immense pain across the left side of his face. Barely aware of his surroundings, Izaya groaned at the pain.

"Hang in there Izaya. You'll be better soon." Even though it was slightly muffled, the raven could identify the voice of his boyfriend. Reassured by his words, Izaya winced at the pain.

After what seemed like only a few seconds, he felt Shizuo's strong arms pick him up. Izaya couldn't quite make out what was being said, but he knew Shizuo was protecting him.

"Shizu..chan.." he weakly said. Fingers intertwined with his.

"I'm right here, Izzy," Shizuo replied. "I'm not going anywhere." That was the last thing Izaya heard before he passed out again.

Izaya woke to the quiet sounds of a hospital. He felt Shizuo's fingers intertwined with his own. He gently squeezed them just in case the blonde was awake.

"Izaya?" He felt Shizuo move.

"Shizu-chan," Izaya turned his head towards him and smiled.

"Oh thank god you're alright," the blonde quickly wrapped his arms around the smaller male. "I was worried you wouldn't make it."

"Of course I'm fine," the raven replied. "It was just a knife slash." Shizuo loosened his grip.

"It wasn't," he replied. "The doctors found traces of poison on the wound, so they had to act fast in order to keep you alive." Izaya felt his hands shaking. "I... I was just so scared of losing you."

Unable to find the right words to comfort him, Izaya found Shizuo's face and brought it to his for a kiss. He felt him sigh and place his hands under the raven's chin. Shizuo rested his forehead against Izaya's for a brief moment after they pulled away.

"So.." Izaya paused. "What happened after I passed out?"

"Are you sure you want to know?" Shizuo asked. Izaya nodded.

"Well," Shizuo moved his hands to hold Izaya's. "Kuro tried to attack me, but Tom and I had made an agreement with the police to catch him, so he was arrested as soon as I was able to disarm him. He kept yelling over and over how his parents would make us pay and that you'd be forced to get back with him.

"Tom had called for an ambulance as soon as I handed you off to him; which was convenient since as soon as Kuro was taken away, your condition started to get bad. After the ambulance arrived, you were rushed here and treated." Shizuo gently squeezed his hand. "That's what happened." Looking up, Shizuo noticed that Izaya was shaking and very clearly trying not to break down.

"Come here," he pulled the info broker in for a hug, which immediately started the tears.

"I'm scared, Shizuo," Izaya said. "He's going to come back after me. And when he does, it'll be much worse. I.. I don't want him to hurt you."

"Shh.." Shizuo rubbed his hand up and down his back to soothe him. "We can get a restraining order on him if it makes you feel better. We can already rely on the police to help."

"I guess.." he replied. Shizuo sighed. It was going to take a lot to restore Izaya's confidence back to how it was before.

Shizuo looked at the bandages covering Izaya's left eye. It didn't matter now, but if he ever got his sight back, that eye was never going to see again.

A/N: Hey guys! Thank you so much for enjoying this story! I know I've written quite a few happy ending chapters, but I felt this one needed a touch of reality in it. Let me know what you think of Kuro so far; I'm genuinely curious. I hope I'm successfully writing him the way I wanted to portray him.
