Family

"I can't wrap my head around it. I disappear for just a couple of months, and when I come back, you two are already playing house," Ningning exclaimed in disbelief whilst shaking her head.

"What do you meannn" Minjeong, now on her mini break whilst waiting for Jimin to get her makeup redone in her own private trailer, decided to quickly step outside to catch up with her best friend over the phone... considering they haven't properly spoken since the day Minjeong.... well... to be put very nicely threatened Ningning into setting up a whole date for her and Jimin. "It's not the fast"

"Minjeong you haven't even officially been a couple with Jimin for 2 days before you guys moved in together, if that's not fast, I don't know what is"

"Ok but, this is different! Different I tell you."

"Of course it is, us ladies are never beating the 'urge to merge' allegation" Ningning replied, rolling her eyes, but knowing fully well her best friend couldn't see her.

"The what and what allegation?"

"Google it Minjeong."

"I dun wanna"

"Suit yourself. It doesn't matter anyway... as long as you both think this is the right step, then it's all that counts," The doctor remarked, her tone a lot lighter now. "Just promise me you'll take care of that mindless mouth of yours and make sure it's not the reason for any fights"

"Oh yeah... so about that-"

"Don't tell me. I can already imagine it"

"Hey!" The blonde pouts through the phone "I'm not that bad"

"Yes you are"

"No, I'm not-"

"Minjeong, let's not argue about this, we both know you are. How about we change the topic? It's almost Christmas, isn't it? Christmas Eve is just a couple of days away. Instead of debating, why don't you take some time to think about how you want to spend the holidays this year?"

"Oh..." The blonde suddenly looked down at her feet, kicking the ground aimlessly. "Why bring that up?"

"Because it's time you become more festive already," Ningning remarked, her tone carrying a subtle undertone that Minjeong caught onto immediately, catching on to the double meaning behind those words... After all her best friend was one of the few who understood Minjeong's history with holiday seasons and why she was so resistant to celebrate like everybody else. "Maybe this time you should actually try and make an effort."

The truth is, Minjeong hasn't celebrated the holidays properly since... well, she couldn't bring herself to finish that thought. It still felt like a wound, even after all these years. Although it was no longer fresh, the pain lingered like scars, a reminder of the events that had unfolded in her life. In fact, she was surprised her best friend, knowing this, would even bring the day up with her. It's not something that affects her as deeply as it used to, but Ningning is usually more careful with her words when it comes to touchy subjects.

"What effort?" Minjeong's tone shifted, a departure from her usual light-hearted bantering nature... a change that Ningning had anticipated. "It's just another day after all, why make a fuss? Besides..." and as a seasoned psychologist, the doctor had also anticipated the next series of hollow words that were to follow, "It's not like I have any family to visit, or a place to go to."

Now in all fairness. Ningning, on the other end of the phone, couldn't shake the guilt gnawing at her. She knew she had backed Minjeong into a corner with her words. But as someone entrenched in the psychological field, she yearned to see her best friend move beyond her past struggles and embrace a happier, more normal life. Minjeong had always pushed herself relentlessly, almost like a machine...

From odd jobs to part-time gigs to side hustles, Minjeong filled every waking hour with work. It wasn't until she landed her managerial role that the doctor could finally breathe a sigh of relief, knowing the girl was at least working more regular hours. In the past, even on days meant for celebration with family, Minjeong never stopped working. If she didn't have a job, she'd retreat into her room until the event had passed.

Ning Ning understood the roots of her best friend's behavior—the need to keep moving, keep working, all to distract herself from that day. But her friend didn't deserve to continue toil like this. While it wasn't Ning Ning's place to dictate, she wished for nothing more than to see Minjeong break free from her past.

Especially now out of all time when Minjeong was no longer alone anymore...

"But isn't Jimin family now?"

That took Minjeong by surprise, her whole body freezing in place as she processed Ning Ning's words repeatedly.

It wasn't a phenomenon she had really thought of.. yet... now that it was up in the air... it struck a chord deep within her....

After all they'd been through together, the ups and downs, the laughter and tears, Jimin had become an integral part of her life.

They live with each other...

Share the same bed now for heaven's sake...

"She is..." Minjeong finally admitted, a fluttering sensation building in the pits of her stomach as she spoke the words aloud. "She's family... she makes me so happy..."

"I know, Minjeong." Ningning exhaled a breath of relief "Then maybe it's time to celebrate again with your family."

"But what if-"

"It won't, Minjeong. That night wasn't your fault. Accidents happen, and sometimes the consequences are dire. It wasn't fair, and my heart has been breaking for you since the night you told me. But as your friend, Minjeong, I don't wish to see you deprive yourself of basic human rights and happiness just because the world was cruel to you once. With Jimin now by your side, holding onto your hand, Minjeong, I think it's time for you to stop punishing yourself for something that was never in your control. And I know this is probably the doctor in me talking, but I have a feeling that because of those events that happened to you, you're probably more protective of her than you need to be. And that's great. But, Minjeong, believe me when I say this: finally allowing yourself to celebrate a holiday with your loved one isn't going to bring back the past"

"What if it does- what if it's a bad omen.. what if it happens again"

"Minjeong, I understand if you're not ready to take that step. But maybe, just maybe, this could be the start of something new for you, for you and Jimin. I won't lie, but ever since she's entered your life, I've seen the changes. You seem more vibrant now, like you have a goal in life again, like you're finally beginning to heal... properly this time. Besides, doesn't Jimin have the right to know what happened? If she's going to be a big part of your life, shouldn't something like this be something you should consider telling her soon?"

"..."

"And I have a feeling with Jimin's past as well... she's probably never celebrated a proper Christmas either... I think you two are more similar than you think."

"That's..."

"Just think about it, Minjeong... sorry, I have my usual client coming around this time... I can't chat any longer... just please consider my words, alright?" And with that, the doctor hung up her line, leaving the blonde in deep ponderings of her friend's thoughts.

...

...

Maybe she's right...

As Christmas drew near, filming came to a halt, granting everyone the opportunity to return home and celebrate the holiday season with their families. As a result this final on-set session of the year concluded earlier than usual.

Despite the festive atmosphere, neither Minjeong nor Jimin, even once mentioned how they were planning to spend the holidays... choosing instead to carry on as per usual and frankly avoiding the topic even as their colleagues excitedly discussed their holiday plans...

To put simply, It seemed as if they were choosing not to acknowledge the approaching day at all.

For Jimin, Minjeong couldn't blame her all... in fact, she empathised deeply with the woman's silence about this very day... it must have been challenging for her to hear everyone else's excitement about family gatherings when she, herself, didn't have a family to return to herself.... but as for Minjeong well... she had been silent too but for her own set of reasons....

Similar ones for that matter...

But aside from that, in general, it just seemed that the topic of Christmas hardly ever had the chance to be brought up...

Because recently... as soon as the two women gets a moment alone with each other.... let's just say... , the mere thought of engaging in a casual conversation seems to escape them entirely.

Like right now, Minjeong couldn't even fathom the idea of using her rambling mouth, , not with Jimin's weight pressing against her, as her back was slammed against the couch and their lips locked in a passionate struggle, Minjeong's world narrowed down to the warmth of their embrace and the tantalizing scent of Jimin enveloping her senses. The drama they were meant to be watching dissolved into the background as their tongues danced in a silent battle for dominance.

Normally, Minjeong would have welcomed the idea of skipping Christmas celebrations altogether. After all, the holiday held no special significance for her—it was just another day of the year. She preferred to avoid the festivities, as they only served as painful reminders of a joy that had long since faded away....

But as Jimin's fingers tangled in her hair and their bodies melded together, the blonde just couldn't ignore the nagging feeling of not celebrating Christmas this year any longer... it just felt wrong... somehow. Despite her aversion to the holiday, there was an inexplicable pull to acknowledge it this time, especially in the presence of Jimin's affection.

It was Ning Ning's words for sure... that sparked the thought,

that much Minjeong could admit. But beyond that, there was also a yearning within her to do something special with Jimin, just the two of them.

Moreover, this may also serve to be an ideal moment to finally open up to Jimin about .. well

everything.

However, Minjeong hadn't quite figured out how to broach the subject with her yet.

She really didn't want to overwhelm the older with the subject. However, after reluctantly pulling away from their heated makeout, she still managed to gather up enough courage to speak.

"Jimin," Minjeong began, her voice soft and uncertain. "Did you have anything planned for Christmas or Christmas Eve?"

The question seemed to catch Jimin off guard, finally lifting her head away so their faces were inches apart, her mouth slightly open, a faint blush colouring her cheeks as she struggled for words. Clearly, she didn't expect Minjeong to pull away so suddenly.

"Christmas?" Jimin managed to respond in between pants, still struggling for air from the activities they had been partaking in. "No, I don't have anything planned. I usually just skip it and spend the day lounging around."

Heh we really are more alike than I had thought

"Why did you have something planned? With family perhaps?" The actress raised a questioning eyebrow, trying to keep her tone casual..

"Oh, no, not that," Minjeong replied, avoiding eye contact with Jimin for some unknown reason. She shifted uncomfortably, unable to maintain the connection, which only piqued Jimin's curiosity further. "I don't normally celebrate either, but I was wondering this time around, if you would like to do something together."

"..."

The actress could do nothing but respond in silence, choosing to, instead of speaking immediately, to observe the fidgeting woman a little longer.

Now that she thought about it, It dawned on Jimin that in the entirety of their relationship, from their initial roles as manager and actress to their current status as girlfriends, Minjeong had never once spoken about her family.

In fact...

Minjeong rarely talked about herself at all, only dropping a few details here and there from time to time. She actually knew very little of the Shorter's past... if Jimin was to be completely honest....

Minjeong's undivided attention always seemed centred on Jimin, fulfilling her every need—a dynamic Jimin found herself selfishly enjoying, craving even more of it. But now, confronted with this stark reality of how little Jimin actually knew about the other.. guilt began to gnaw at her for never taking the time to inquire about Minjeong's own history.

And now...

Looking at the way the blonde appeared self-conscious under her gaze, the actress couldn't help but wonder if the woman was even comfortable discussing it at all.

Why did the mention of her family make her act like that?

Initially, Jimin had assumed that Minjeong had brought up the subject of Christmas to inform her that she would be visiting her loved ones or perhaps was even contemplating on introducing Jimin to her parents... which was actually something the woman didn't even think she was ready for... hence the questioning look she gave to the blonde earlier...

But now...considering how the shorter was acting.. Jimin wasn't sure at all with what Minjeong was planning.

"I'm happy with that," was the only answer she gave the blonde in the end, choosing not to press on further about Minjeong's non-celebratory nature....

"Really?" Minjeong finally looks back up and locks eyes with Jimin, sparkles shimmering through her gaze replacing the once conflicted ones.. as a wide smile of excitement spreads across her cheeks "Yes! Ok, that's good that's really good" She begins to ramble on "This will be our first Christmas together, Jimin, wouldn't you believe it..." The blonde began to hum to herself... losing herself in a daze of imagination as she began planning out the event in her head. Minjeong just looked so adorable to Jimin, resembling a puppy with her excitement and enthusiasm so much so, it made the actress smile too... but then, her sparkling eyes gradually dimmed, taking on a more sombre expression, as if she had recalled something less pleasant. "Leave it to me, Jimin," she speaks again, her smile now smaller but still nevertheless present. "I'll make sure it'll be a good Christmas."

"I can help out too you kno-"

"No I want this to be a surprise, just let me do the work" Turning her head, the blonde's gaze went straight back to the television... silently communicating over the end of their little makeout session... though Jimin wasn't entirely sure how happy she was about that abrupt shift in mood.

But she supposes it doesn't really matter now...

"Okay," Jimin replied softly, conceding to Minjeong's request. She settled back down, resting her head on Minjeong's chest, allowing the blonde to begin stroking her hair soothingly as the next episode of their current favourite drama continued to play...

But this time..

She found it quite difficult to focus on the television. Her mind was elsewhere, unable to follow along with the plot at all.

Minjeong... I wish I could read your mind sometimes....

Sitting on the park bench, Jimin watched the snowflakes gently drifting down from the dark sky above, each one adding to the thick blanket of white covering the ground. Despite the late hour, the park was surprisingly still populated, with families and couples enjoying the festive atmosphere.

She saw her own breath form wisps in the cold night air as she pulled her coat ever tighter around herself, ensuring that the scarf around her neck was snug as well. The actress had seated herself just far enough away from everyone, the distance and also the dim lighting of the park served as her safety net to hide her A-lister identity to the general public.. but on the chance that she was seen, she had her face all done and prettied up even for the night, so she hadn't been too worried about being spotted... though with how things are proceeding tonight, she doubts that chance would even come.

It's really been the first time Jimin's felt so relax in a public space for a very long time.

It was nice... to say the least.. and despite the cold weather... very refreshing....

The location of the park sprawled towards the towering city buildings ahead, offering a scenic backdrop as Jimin waited for her little golden retriever... Amidst the tranquil scene, a profound sense of calm settled over her. . She had spent the whole day with Minjeong today... and it had been nothing short of magical... filled with laughter love and warmth...

From the moment she had woken up, Minjeong had surprised her with a grand display of breakfast in bed, ranging from a series of bacon, eggs, and a fluffy stack of pancakes drizzled with maple syrup. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee also wafted through the air, adding to the cozy ambiance of the room.

While savouring each delicious bite... a soft cheerful melody of Christmas Jingle played from the living room. Looking up at Minjeong's mischievous yet sparkly eyes... Jimin quickly put two and two together to who had set those specific melodies up... before watching as the younger extended her hands.

"Care to join me for a dance?"

"I hardly finished my breakfast Minjeong"

"We can come back to it!"

Not being able to resist her blondie's cute little pout, Jimin accepted her hand... before being pulled or rather... swept away in the living room where they shared a rather chaotic, but happy dance session together... where Minjeong may or may not have bumped into Jimin and stepped on her toes a few too many times...

Which eventually turned the initial plan of dancing into a bit of a game of tag... where Jimin chased after Minjeong around the living room with a cushion in hand, ready to shoot as a means to teach Minjeong a lesson for being so clumsy footed.

It ended in a nice series of laughter and kisses with thankfully, Minjeong making it out alive scrape-free

And from there... as the afternoon stretched into evening, they turned their attention to the task of decorating their Christmas tree. With twinkling lights, shiny baubles, and colorful ornaments, they transformed the tree into a dazzling spectacle worthy of the holiday name...

It was as if Christmas had come early for Jimin, and she couldn't have asked for a better way to spend the day.

Even in her adulthood, Jimin had never fully embraced the joys of preparing for the most anticipated holiday season of the year.. But with Minjeong by her side, that little glitter inside her began to shimmer again.. a glitter that had lost it's sparkle since childhood...

For that, Jimin was utterly grateful, her heart swelling with affection for her adorable puppy. She couldn't shake the feeling of falling deeper and deeper for the little bundle of joy... even going as far as half joking to herself that one day her heart might burst from the overwhelming affection Minjeong poured out.

But now, as she sat alone on the park bench, she couldn't help but feel a rush of anticipation rush through her chest... the blonde had promised one final surprise, and Jimin couldn't help but wonder what it could be.

Taking in the park's scene, Jimin admired the snow-draped trees and the sparkling lights adorning the paths. The joyous sight of kids playing with their parents, sculpting snowmen and giggling, warmed her heart.

Once upon a time, this scene would have stirred a sense of loneliness within Jimin. But today, with Minjeong as her companion, that feeling vanished entirely. Instead of the cold feeling of dread during the holiday seasons... today all she felt was a warm glow.. covering her entire being....

This must be what it feels like to spend the day with someone close to you... To spend the day with family...

Jimin vowed she would never spend her holidays alone again... because there is no way in any shape of form... after today.. she was willing to go back to how things used to be...

"Jimin!" The A-lister turned to see the woman she had been waiting for running towards her. Lost in her thoughts, she hadn't even noticed the passage of time ticking by.

But wait..

What that in Minjeong's hands?

"Sorry, did you wait long? The 24-hour store ran out of what I needed, so I had to run to the next one down the block," Minjeong explained breathlessly as she approached.

"No you're surprisingly early for once" Jimin couldn't help but tease, but her eyes were solely on the item the blonde was holding...

Flowers... did she run to get these for me.... but.. they're

"Minjeong," Jimin couldn't help but voice out, her curiosity piqued. "These flowers... they're Lilies and carnations, aren't they?"

"Oh! Are those what they are?" The blonde quickly inspected the bunch she was holding. "I never knew that. I just knew they were the ones I needed. Wow, Jimin, I didn't know your knowledge extended even this far. So smart."

"Enough with your flattery," Jimin couldn't help but roll her eyes, but then continued to her point. "Are those for me?"

Now the actress wasn't exactly an expert on flowers... but typically... she's never seen these flower choices been given as gifts for lovers... those were typically roses or even orchids... so she couldn't help but question the bouquet these time.

"Oh, no, no—I have your gift, but it's something else, and it's reserved for Christmas, of course," Minjeong replied with a grin. "Sorry for the confusion. I should've explained earlier. But I actually got these for my parents. We'll be visiting them right about now! :D "

"Oh ok" Jimin smiles back too "That makes sense then" She glanced ahead, ready to see just where the blonde was going to guide her next... When suddenly Minjeong's words finally registered through her brain, causing her to snap her head towards the blonde with wide eyes. "Wait- WHAT!?"

"Parents, Jimin, we'll be visiting my parents" The blonde had to clarify slowly.

"Your parents!?"

"Yes"

"They're here!?"

"Well sort of, we'll see them, but they're like a 3 minutes walk away"

"At this hour!?"

"Yeah, they've always been nightbirds believe it or not"

"Minjeong!" Jimin couldn't believe what she was hearing right now "Are you INSANE! You can't just shoot that curveball at me out of nowhere! I'm not-" She quickly looked down at the way she was dressed "I'm not even remotely ready to meet your parents! And my makeup as well, I have smokey eyes today! They're not even close to being appropriate to meet the general older public let alone YOUR PARENTS"

"Jimin, Jimin" Minjeong calmly tried to de-escalate Jimin's rising anxiety "It's fine, you look great and besides I have a feeling they'll like you no matter what you're wearing or what your makeup looks like"

"That's not my point Minjeong! You can't just-"

"Come on Jimin! We shouldn't keep them waiting!" Minjeong promptly interrupts before dashing off forward.. leaving Jimin stunned and unable to even comprehend what the shorter is thinking.

"Wait- Minjeong- WAIT UP" Jimin had no choice but to follow...

All the while wondering if she should start urging Minjeong to stop bleaching her hair from now on.. because surely some kind of chemical in there must be affecting the shorter's judgment to make such a drastic decision without even informing her.

Jimin could feel her heart jumping up to her chest from how nervous she was as they continued to approach Minjeong's parents.

Following behind the blonde, she couldn't help but fidget with her clothing, adjusting her coat and making sure her low-cut top was adequately covered to appear more presentable.

"Minjeong..." The actress couldn't help but call out again, causing the blonde to halt her movements ahead. "I really don't think this is a good idea. I'm just... not ready."

"Jimin.. I already told you, you don't need to be nervous, they'll like you!"

"But you can't just put me on the spot like that!" The girl stopped walking, stomping her feet like a little toddler, exasperated and overwhelmed with a whirlwind of anxiety.

Observing Jimin's behaviour, Minjeong had to stifle her laughter at the older woman's antics before she approached Jimin and reached out to gently grasp her hand into her own. "I know you're nervous, but trust me, they'll adore you. Besides, it's just a quick visit to say hello. You don't have to stay long if you're uncomfortable."

Jimin bit her lip in response to that... Every cell in her body was telling her to flee in that instance, but something about Minjeong's honest eyes and warm touch made her stay put.

So there she was, conflicted with her own apprehension, but wanting nothing else but to make Minjeong happy if this visitation was definitely what the blonde wanted.

Reluctantly, in the end, she took in a deep breath before nodding slowly. "Okay... I'll try..."

They continued their walk through the park, with nothing lighting the way now apart from the soft glow of the lampposts, casting just enough of a gentle yellow ambience around them. However, with every step, the actress still couldn't shake the nerves gnawing at her stomach. But she supposed she did find some sense of ease with her fingers intertwined with Minjeong's.

That is until their steps came to halt...

"Well..." The blonde turned around to face Jimin, her eyes carrying a rather unreadable expression this time. "They're just ahead. If you want, I can go ahead first to greet them."

"Oh, okay..." The actress watched as Minjeong headed out first. After she was a couple of meters away, that was when Jimin chose to follow. Her hands grasped onto her sleeve as she once again, for the tenth time, began adjusting her coat to make sure every inch of her was covered.

Too preoccupied with looking down at herself rather than what lay ahead, Jimin finally came to a stop.... where confusion was the only thing striking Jimin.

No one was there except for the two of them, with Minjeong just a couple of meters ahead, crouching down.

From where she stood, Jimin could only make out Minjeong's silhouette. The blonde had placed the flowers next to a fence of some sort. They were on the side of the park now, next to a quiet road. It was quite dark, but they were standing just near an old streetlight, which surprisingly still gave light, though it looked like it was at its last days.

What is she up to... and where are her parents?

Those were the only thoughts running through her mind as she continued to walk ahead, until she was just a few feet away from Minjeong, who was still kneeling down, as if she was staring aimlessly at the fence.

And that's when Jimin saw it...

the sign...

Or rather... the two names on the sign...

"In memory of Kim Seong-Min and Kim Chul-Soon"

This- this is... Jimin eyes widens at the very sight.. her pupil dilating A roadside memorial..?

"They passed away when I was 10," Minjeong's voice broke the silence, her words carrying a weight that Jimin could feel even from where she stood. As her gaze ran back to the blonde woman, the upper part of her face was completely shadowed, making it hard for the actress to make out any expression.

"Minjeong-"

"It's ok, it's alright..." Minjeong's face finally emerged from the darkness as she allowed the lamp-post to shine upon her. "It's been over a decade now, and I can finally say... it doesn't really bother me anymore. I mean, it does, they were my folks. What I mean is, while the pain is still here, it doesn't hurt as badly anymore. I still feel sad, but that sadness no longer transforms into tears, if you get what I'm saying."

"..." Jimin stayed quiet, her eyes reflecting understanding as she absorbed Minjeong's words. She waited patiently, sensing that there was more the blonde wanted to share.

"It was just another night like this too," Minjeong continued, her gaze fixed on the flowers beside her parents' names. "I never told you this, but believe it or not, I'm an only child... and though my family wasn't well off... we were happy... even to this day... I think I smiled the most during my childhood." The blonde reminisced, a small smile gracing her lips as she recalled her past. "My folks... they were busy always trying to make ends meet, taking up many odd jobs... not so different from how I was before I met you, I suppose..." She glanced up at Jimin appreciatively before returning her gaze to the flowers. "They were the hardest working people I've ever known in my life at the time... but despite those hardships... they always told me I can be whatever I want to be... they never told me to become a doctor or a lawyer or anything of that variety if I didn't want to... but they had said they dreamed for me to go to college... telling me that that was at least a gateway for me to not turn out like them..." But then that smile slowly faded away into the distance... as another memory took over... "I never understood what they meant... My parents... they spoiled me... showed me love... I knew they loved me... loved me dearly... and honestly I wanted nothing more than to be as giving as they were..."

Minjeong took a deep breath, her voice trembling slightly as she spoke. "They passed away today, twelve years ago," she began, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "My mother and father both worked at a factory at the time. They had come home late, collecting a particular toy for me... Father worked for a toy factory then. He had brought me the newest Barbie doll, wanting to surprise me for Christmas the next day... They both did."

Jimin listened in sombre silence as Minjeong recounted the tragic events. "But that night, there was a storm," Minjeong continued. "According to records and my own recollections... The storm was relentless, and my parents likely pushed their car beyond its limits... It skidded, crashing into the fence right here."

"..."

"The fence was repaired over time, of course," Minjeong remarked, her tone tinged with a hint of melancholy. "But, not to sound too dramatic... I suppose I never felt quite whole. So, not long after, I returned and crafted a sign for them... I don't really celebrate Christmas, but I make a pilgrimage here every year at the same time and leave the same flowers... this batch... I never discovered what they were called until today... but lilies... they were my mother's favourite, and despite our financial struggles, my dad always managed to surprise her with a bouquet when they were both still together"

"Minjeong, you were so young... Where did you stay after... after..." Jimin's voice faltered, her heart heavy with unspoken sorrow. She hesitated, unsure if she should continue... or if it was even appropriate to do so...

"My grandma's. She was the only family I had left... she actually helped me make the sign and gave me the idea to make a roadside memorial for my parents..."

"Do you visit her often?"

"No... she passed away a couple of days after my 18th birthday"

"Oh Minjeong..." Jimin's voice quivered slightly as she fought to hold back tears, her grip tightening around her arm. "I.. I'm so sorry."

"Don't be." Minjeong responded with a gentle smile "I didn't share this to evoke pity. I brought you here because I didn't want to hide this part of myself from you... and also because I wanted to thank you."

"Thank.. me?"

"Of course, Jimin... I knew our meeting was rather unconventional, and we did start off on quite an interesting note... But truly, since you came into my life, even if I was just merely your manager, you've changed me, Jimin... for the better."

"Oh no-" Jimin attempted to dismiss the assertion, waving her hand. "Minjeong, I can't-"

"I'm being serious, Jimin!" Minjeong's words poured out earnestly, her eyes reflecting sincerity. "Before you... I really didn't know what I was doing with my life. I graduated college, just as my parents had always wanted. I did it to fulfill their only wish for me, the one goal I had since childhood. But after they passed... that goal became my only anchor. And when it disappeared, I lost myself. I didn't know who I was anymore. I had no more goals, no direction. I was too afraid to step out and try new things. So I just drifted... from one odd job to another. Working as a movie crew member, setting up film equipment, was probably the most normal job I had... until I met you, Jimin. And I mean it when I say this... Because of you, I crawled out of that deep hole I had dug for myself all those years ago. I found a job with stability, steady pay. I saw myself growing as a person. And for the first time in years, I saw a future worth pursuing. It's you, Jimin. I see a future with you. I finally have something to strive for, something to work towards. I want to be a better person, to work harder, to achieve more. I want to be worthy of you, Jimin. I haven't felt this alive since I was 10. And it's all thanks to you."

Jimin stood there, her silence enveloping her like a heavy blanket, her gaze locked on Minjeong's as every word sank into her being. The raw honesty in Minjeong's voice struck her deeply, leaving her breathless and unable to articulate a response. It felt as though the world around them had faded into insignificance, leaving only Minjeong's heartfelt confession echoing in her ears.

In that moment, a whirlwind of emotions surged within Jimin—astonishment, admiration, and an overwhelming sense of warmth.... she just never knew... she had impacted the blonde in such a way... and being told this now... it had a profound impact on her...

"..."

"You know..." The blonde's gaze shifted back to her parents' sign, her eyes betraying a flicker of vulnerability. "The police handed me one last thing before they left me at my grandma's... They gave me the Barbie doll my mum and dad had bought for me... It was the last gift I ever received from them... And, God, I cherished that Barbie doll... Wanting nothing more than to be more like it..."

"Is that why you bleach your hair... because of barbie?"

"Yes, because original Barbie had blonde hair... and it's also because Barbie probably has the most well-rounded resume I've ever seen. She's fearless, you know," The shorter woman looked up, her expression full of wonder now as she continued. "She could be anything she wanted—whether that was a vet, a doctor, or a pilot. Her bounds were endless because she never allowed there to be a limit. She pursued her dreams without hesitation, breaking barriers and exploring new horizons. And growing up, I wanted to be just like her. I wanted to embody that same spirit of fearlessness and determination."

"But now," Minjeong continued, her gaze drifting back to Jimin, "looking at you, perhaps my dream's already came true... even though it was something I never knew I had wanted until now...

Jimin's heart skipped a beat at Minjeong's words in that moment... her heart should be used to it by now... but by no means will it ever feel normal... because it just keeps swelling with a mixture of joy and tenderness... always because of her blondie...

"Minjeong..."

"Hey mum, hey dad~~" The blonde suddenly called out to the fence one last time, leaving Jimin a little stunned as a big smile spread across her Minjeong's face. "Guess what!" she beamed. "Not only did I land a stable job that pays well, I have the most beautiful, the most wonderful girlfriend in the whole wide world!" Minjeong gestured towards Jimin, all excited to show her off to the world. "Do you see her? Isn't she amazing?" Turning around... Minjeong could only stare at Jimin in absolute awe...

And in that moment, Jimin felt as though time froze around her.

The woman who had brought light into her life... who had shown her what it meant to love.. and be loved in return...

The woman who wasn't just someone special to Jimin... but someone she would always cherish... always stand beside... who had breathed life into her... was looking at her in such admiration...

Such adoration...

As if Jimin was the only thing Minjeong needed in this world...

Even though...

It should be Jimin.. who should be thanking the blonde instead....

"Alright..." Jimin's attention returned to Minjeong's words, her gaze fixed on the blonde as she moved away from the fence. "That's all I wanted to share with them today," Minjeong said with a small smile. "I know they're watching over us right now, proud of where my life is... and of us. And honestly... just knowing that alone... it means the world to me... You mean the world to me, Jimin." She reached out a hand to the actress. "Shall we head home now?"

but to Minjeong's surprise, Jimin didn't take her hand as expected. Instead, she stared at Minjeong's outstretched palm before meeting her eyes and then proceeded to walk right past her, causing confusion to cloud the blonde's expression "Jimin-?"

"Thank you"

"...huh?"

Jimin was standing right in front of Minjeong's mum and dad now.... her eyes closed and hands clasped in front of her as she offered a silent prayer before bowing respectfully in front of the sign and flowers.

"Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Kim," she whispered softly, "Thank you for bringing Minjeong into this world, for blessing me with my very own guardian angel... I promise.. I'll take good care of her for the rest of her life.. so please.. rest at ease.. and leave the worrying to me from now on..." she held her bow at a 90 degrees angle... eyes remaining closed as she continued her thank yous silently...

Upon hearing those words, the unshed tears in Kim Minjeong's eyes finally spilled over as the clock struck 12. In the distance, the cheering of the arrival of Christmas could be heard, but amidst it all, all Minjeong could see, feel, or hear was Jimin.

"I bet you were popular," Minjeong teased, nudging Jimin playfully...

Which only prompted the a-lister to chuckle back softly in response, shaking her head. "I really wasn't."

"Jimin, don't lie to me," The blonde insisted, leaning closer to her girlfriend with a playful pout. "That's such an obvious lie I can't even! There's no way you weren't the most popular one in your school."

Jimin sighed, a faint smile playing on her lips. "Well, believe it or not, Minjeong, I had glasses on and was a reserved nerd in the background. No one noticed me."

"But you're so pretty!"

"Not with glasses on,"

"No, that's a lie, You'd even look pretty with a garbage bag over your body. You just don't want me to get jealous because I bet you had hundreds of admirers...."

Jimin raised an eyebrow, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Well, would you be?"

"Would I be what?" Minjeong, pulls the blanket over herself and Jimin, before wrapping her arms tight around the woman...

"Jealous... if I did have admirers.."

"Jimin... I'm jealous even now when I see all these fans of yours gushing over you and throwing marriage proposals at you.. I feel a weird sense of rejection towards it.. like I'm happy they all admire you.. but I still feel like I want to fight them.. "

"Whipped" The actress booped Minjeong right on the nose before letting out a light laughter.

"I can't help it Jimin.." Minjeong's leaned her head down onto Jimin's shoulder "i just want you.. all to myself..."

"I'm yours, Minjeong..." Jimin's voice was tender as she turned her head, their lips finally meeting in a chaste kiss. "All yours..."

By now, two hours had passed since Christmas began, yet neither of the women felt even the slightest bit tired. They weren't ready to call it a night just yet. Instead, they settled into Jimin's bed, wanting to stay close to each other as they talked about everything and nothing. They shared stories of their childhoods—the good, the bad, the beautiful, and the ugly. And as they lost themselves in each other's company, they couldn't resist the temptation to taste each other's lips and tongue once again.

"Minjeong..." Once again, it was Minjeong who pulled back, halting their progress before things went any further.

"Damn it, Minjeong!" Jimin frowned, feeling the absence of Minjeong's touch already. "You really have to stop doing that!"

"I'm sorry-"

"Seriously, are you trying to play a game with me or something?"

"No! I would never! Like I said before... I want everything for you to be perfect-"

"I don't want perfect, Minjeong. I want you.." That made the blonde need to physically swallow down her burning fire within her stomach... and needing to reluctantly look away from Jimin's begging gaze... a look so alluring.. she's afraid if she stared any longer.. she was going to lose herself to her desires completely.. "Do you not want me...?"

"What!" Minjeong's head snapped right back towards Jimin immediately. "Of course I want you! Jimin, I want you more than anything. Gosh, just looking at you drives me insane. I go crazy because of you, Jimin. You have no idea how hard it is to keep myself in check when I'm next to you, or even just the thought of you. It drives me over the edge. I want you, Jimin. I want you so badly."

"So why..? Why not just take me?"

"Because!" Minjeong looked deeply into Jimin's eyes, hoping she could see her sincerity. "You're everything to me. I don't want to just act on desires. You don't deserve that. I want you to feel loved, worshipped even. I don't want this just to be an act of lust. I want it to be love. I want our bond to be rooted in love, not just physical attraction."

"Minjeong..."

"And besides.. it's late.. but it's Christmas and I still haven't been able to give you your Christmas present yet

...

"Present?" Now that piqued Jimin's interest indeed... making her momentarily forget about her little situation...

Minjeong reached out, gently taking Jimin's hand in hers. "Come with me," she said, her tone gentle yet determined.

Curious and eager, Jimin followed Minjeong as she led her to the living room. There, on the coffee table, was a beautifully wrapped package, adorned with a festive bow.

"For me?" Jimin asked, her eyes now glimmering with unspoken excitement.

Minjeong nodded, a soft smile gracing her lips. "I wanted to give you something special," she said. "Something that captures all the wonderful moments we've shared together."

With a small touch, Jimin carefully unwrapped the package, revealing a handmade scrapbook nestled inside.

"Oh, Minjeong..." Jimin's voice caught in her throat as she delicately turned the pages, each one a treasure trove of memories from their journey together. The first couple of pages showcased perfectly captured candid photos from their enchanting aquarium date, but also moments Jimin wasn't aware Minjeong had immortalized. There were snapshots of them exploring the great outdoors, whether it was on a spontaneous midnight drive ... or on occasion when Minjeong somehow convinced Jimin of going on another "awesome" secluded hiking spot... to just them lazing around at home where they just did nothing but enjoy each other's company.. . Alongside each image were handwritten notes from Minjeong, each one a heartfelt reflection on the day the picture was taken, expressing just how Jimin made Minjeong feel that day.

And just as a side note.. those letters were long... like very long...

As in filled up to the brim of each piece of paper.. type of long...

"I wanted to create something that we can cherish forever," Minjeong explained. her voice closer to a whisper now.. "Do you.. like it?"

"Like it..? Tears welled up in Jimin's eyes as she looked at Minjeong, overwhelmed by the depth of her love and the thoughtfulness of her gift. Without a word, she pulled Minjeong into a tight embrace, holding her close as she whispered, "I love it.... thank you.. thank you for everything..."

And as Minjeong felt her body wrapped around Jimin's arms... for once in a long time.. a familiar definition began spirally in her head... a definition that she had forgotten long ago.. lost from her vocabulary... as she thought she once thought it was something she no longer required...

"I also have one more thing..." Minjeong quickly reached into the back of her pocket after Jimin had let go, revealing a small toy hammer keychain. She placed it into Jimin's palm, who gazed at it curiously. "It's your very own little tool, so I can remind you that if ever something seems like it isn't working smoothly in this relationship, I'll always fix it."

Jimin blinked, her eyebrows furrowing in disbelief as she inspected the tiny hammer. "You're giving me a mini hammer... to fix our relationship? Gosh..." She chuckled incredulously, her eyes flicking up to meet Minjeong's. "I didn't expect your toolset theory to be a reoccurring theme... You're thought process is really out of this world. Admit it, you're an alien aren't you.."

"Nope, I'm just wonderfully unique. Merry Christmas," she said with a gleam in her eyes.

"Well," Jimin's grin widened as she gladly accepted the keychain. "I have something for you too," she confessed, reaching for her designer wallet on the coffee table. From it, she retrieved a card and handed it to Minjeong. "I know it's severely underwhelming after the effort you went through for yours... and this isn't an excuse... but work has been incredibly busy... and I wasn't too sure of what you wanted, so I thought I would get you a-"

"A gift card!" Minjeong began beaming in excitement "I love gift cards, don't worry Jimin sometimes the best gift, is allowing the other party to choose their present for themselves"

"Ok good... Jimin's relief was evident in her voice. "This one can be used in all sorts of places, from convenience stores to high-end retailers and designer brands, You'll have plenty of options."

"Designer?" Minjeong brought the card closer to her face to examine it closely. "What kind of gift card allows—OMG, WHY DOES IT HAVE A VALUE OF 5000 DOLLARS?"

Jimin shrugged casually, as if the sum was inconsequential. "Well, you know, just a little something," she said, trying to downplay the extravagance. "I figured you could treat yourself to something nice. Or maybe even splurge a little, I think you might need a wardrobe change if anything."

Minjeong's eyes widened dramatically, her jaw dropping in disbelief. "Five thousand dollars-roos? Are you serious, Jimin?" she exclaimed, unable to hide her shock.

Jimin waved her hand dismissively. "don't mention it," she said with a nonchalant tone. "Consider it a thank you for putting up with my crazy schedule. And merry Christmas to you too"

Feeling completely enveloped with gratitude, Minjeong threw her arms around Jimin, pulling her into a tight hug. "You're incredible, you know that?" she whispered, her voice filled with genuine affection.

Jimin chuckled softly, returning the embrace with equal warmth. "And you're too kind," she replied, pressing a gentle kiss to Minjeong's forehead.

They lingered in each other's embrace, finding solace in the closeness they shared. Minjeong eventually drew back, her eyes shimmering with affection as she looked into Jimin's eyes. "I love you," she murmured tenderly, her words carrying genuine feelings...

Jimin's cheeks flushed crimson at those heartfelt words, a rush of butterflies flooding her chest. "And you're..." She paused, stumbling over her words. "You're... pretty great, I guess." She glanced away, her face now burning red with embarrassment.

Which only invited a whole hearted laughter from Minjeong from how cute Jimin was acting... "One day Jimin.. one day when I get to hear you say it, I swear I'll fly over the moon and back with some cheese, because you know.. the moon is made out of cheese."

"Oh my lord, Minjeong go to sleep, you're tired brain is working on overdrive and it's producing even weirder ideas than before.

"Nah.. it's just completely filled with you"

"!!!"

Yeah... Jimin...

Yu Jimin..

she definitely brought back that word for Minjeong...

that one single lost definition...

It's as clear as day now...

Family

Yu Jimin reminded Minjeong of family...

She is family...

Embodying everything the blonde had forgotten.. something that she had used to always hold dear to her heart...

The heartbeat of our existence...

A symphony of being with another soul.. intertwined together in pure love...

It's like a warm hug that never lets go... it's a place where you find laughter.. a place to lean on when things gets tough...

Like puzzle pieces that fit perfectly together... making the entire picture complete...

That was who Yu Jimin is to Minjeong...

Someone who completes her, motivates her, and inspires Minjeong to become a better person... because now... she has a home filled with trust and unwavering support.

Like a cozy blanket on a chilly day.. wrapping her in warmth and comfort just when she thought she was going to get frost bite.... a bond that didn't need to be shared by blood... but by trust and love...

That's Jimin... the type of family who Jimin is to Minjeong...

She wants to do everything with her... everything that she used to do up til the age of 10....

Celebrate Christmas... go to the movies.... go on mini adventures with her...

Everything...

Family... Jimin is family... and now that Minjeong had finally found her family back.. she swears on her life... she will never let her go...

She will never let her family go again...

And now as their little playfight took them back to the sanctuary of Jimin's bed.. where they sank into a tangle of limbs and blanket...

As their breaths mingled into the quietness of the night and their heartbeats echoed in a silent rhythm of pure unadulterated affection....

Before their eyes finally slowly grew heavier and heavier...

With one who recovered her very own world.. and the other, her family..

Both Jimin and Minjeong knew then and there..

There was no place they rather be than right here...

Together...
